Willie, it’s bringing back memories of the early LowE/argon gas days!
Boy! I sure remember those days. I believe in the Low-E glass, but I am still skeptical of the Argon. I understand the concept, but most testing that we had done and written studies from others indicated that it all leached out within 5 years!
Party of 14 (as of now) plus the 2 hosts (Terry and me).
What happened to the trip down here for the playoff game? Weather concerns? I would crash that party if I lived a lot closer!:)

$1600 Per ticket is what happened.

For her and I we’d bitch but pay it and go. But add in the son and his g/f, daughter and her hubby and Terry’s best friend then add airfare of which her friend would pay her share, nope not happening. To me it would have been an absolute waste of money and Terry agreed. That in itself is unusual as when it comes to her Badger Women sports and especially her Packers, cost generally is not a concern. Thankfully we know about the place the Cowboys play. She was offered a suite but at a 6 figure price and that was through the Packers customer service group. She still has her dad’s ( now in her name) 4 tickets outside since 1959. So the Packers will help with tickets.

Everything in the $300 to $600 range was nose bleed areas and if you’ve been in Jerry Jones place that could be 1/4 of a mile (exaggerated) away. We did the Packer super bowl win there in an ice storm and the seats while extremely big and comfortable you could not really see the field. Too high and too farraway. Terry said if she wanted to see a game on a big screen she’d do it at home. So she is…

I have a “friend” who is a retired Packer hall of famer (not the NFL’) and I texted him for help with a ticket. He did promotional work for us for years and he’s now lives close to us and has been to our Summer parties. He grew up near my former place of employment outside of Marshfield, Wi. He was given 2 tickets to the game for him and his wife and no more. Usually he’s given a suite (reduced payment amount) and those can generally hold up to 20. Something about the Cowboys trying to keep the GB fans fro:n taking over the place…

Agree about the LowE glass and issues with Argon gas. Boy do I have horror stories from that. I got quite a few trips to our LowE supplier out of Switzerland, along with factory trips to West Germany (back then) and Austria.

Sad news in our house today. Val our dog died last night. She would have been 15 on Valentine's day this year. That why we named her Val. Passed away lying on the couch. Over the years we had 5 dogs they all lived a good life here and then passed on to wherever they go in the afterlife.

Good Morning All!

32F @ 87% and overcast. Weather guesser are now saying -30F on Friday. -30? Record in 1950 was -44F. I will need to get the heat jet out in case the power dies along with cramming the cook stove to help. Cook stove has one of those 'heat' enabled fans ( no power needed ) so we should get some blow from that. We also have a propane wall heater in the bedroom which will help. Pretty sure ( if we have power ) the pellet stoves will not keep up. Told Maria not to do any laundry until Friday as the vent dumps under the house. If we do hit that, might be a few of the almost die-hard folks that move out come spring.

Helix: Welp, I have calc'd the risers so that they are spread out even around the thing; except for the last one which the distance will be 3/4" longer than the others. Should not be a big deal as all it will do is decrease the grade a tiny bit for that section. Spreadsheets are your friend. I did change the level separation to 5" vs 4" ( 4 levels bottom to top ) as I was thinking of using 1/8" ply for the roadbed. 5" will allow 3/8 ply so I figured a little more room for stuff. My grades do go up with that separation. Down Storage is now 1.77/1.67%, Run Thru is 1.59% and Up Storage is 1.52/1.46%. I don't think we will 'string line' with those grades/radii as the radii for: Down is 28.5/31"r, Run Thru is 33.5"r and Up is 35.75/38"r, but can see multiple power on all longer trains...darn. More testing is in order for the new separation. All-in-all I can go back to 4" separation knowing that there is not much finger room to rescue stuff. Need perfect track alignment and grades with that.

Met Maria in an Everett Casket Company in 2000. I thought that I had posted stuff about that but could not find. Anyway, since that time we have not been apart. One of those 'soul mate' things I guess. Got hitched in ...um... 2012/13 I think. Nice that about that is we got married twice; 1st time in our backyard surrounded by local friends, daughters and our animals; 2nd the next day in Deer Park Wa with our remote friends. Boy, that was a bash. I brought a whole Prime which we chunked up as Ron's son did a bunch of cooking not knowing the Prime was gonna be there. That disappeared within an hour of the dinner as when whomever walked by grabbed a chunk. Tequila was the main liquid and everybody was pretty much toast when the rented band guy quit playing. He was missing stuff after awhile as everybody was giving him shots. Ya, Ron had places for everybody to sleep. John whom did the ceremony came from Everett Wa and did both. Means that when she tells me 'it is our anniversary, I have a 2nd day to get stuff done!

Swal:

Sorry for the loss. Know what you are going through as we just did that a couple of weeks ago. Sounds like she was where she wanted to be when she passed. You have the memories and that is a good thing.

George, Sorry for the loss of your buddy. Almost 15, is a good life. No doubt she will be missed but never forgotten.

Chad - I may have missed it, but when do you hope to move into the new house?
As soon as possible. Our construction loan had an interest rate rise last summer on one renewal and its getting to the point its not bearable. But I've given up guessing when we'll be "done enough". It is when the sub-contractors get their stuff done, which seems to take forever -- much longer than I would have thought for things.

My hope is that by end of February we'll be done enough. They started mud/tape process on drywall and the guys were actually there from around 8:30am to 11:30pm. They're not there today that I've seen though I think their supervisor stopped by this morning based on the camera.

Once they're done we need to paint and then we can stick flooring in, outlets and lights, water fixtures, cabinets, stair railings, and be done enough. Trim and molding and stuff can come later. The city inspectors said that since it's my own house (owner/builder) they don't care about non code/safety related things. Cosmetic or whatever is not important like it would be if this was being built for someone else.

Storms over for now. Was not as bad as the forecasters said it would be, but it was BAD! Total rainfall 2.73",Highest measured gust 44 MPH. We adverted major damage to the train room, around 8PM, the cat and I went down to the trainroom for her nightly inspection trip. Instead of her usual behavior, she made a beeline for specific containers, where water was dripping from overhead. I pulled the boxes back, then looked for the source. (Cable TV wires and Window wells). OK not good! We left the trainroom, and I dressed for weather. Took my ½ Mile Ray Lamp, and my #9 Crib shovel and went out in the storm. The raised flower / shrub bed was flooded, and my plastic gutter extensions had failed. My window casement was full of water the whole bed was flooded. OK the 4x4 landscape timbers had to go. Stuck the shovel into the ground, and pried...It came up and released a ton of water. ( I don't know where I found the strength to pull that sucker out - had to be Divine Intervention - because my whole body Arthritis is at Full Blast Flare), Then I found the extensions had holes in the bottom and were in a gully. Tore them out, then ditched a trench to get the water over to the swale. We then dragged two 80 lb bags of garden soil over to act as sand bags to keep the roof drain moving to the swale. Once that was finished, we bailed out the casement.
Wife and I were very wet and muddy, but it worked. Learned these tricks on the railroad, using the right tools makes it easy. I still don't know where I got the strength...

I did the two week trip to Austria (in 1984) as well. We stayed in Amstetten and toured and learned our machinery at Lisec GmbH there. Mostly we went for three hour lunches with locally brewed beer and of course Schnapps after every meal. My first morning in the classroom, one of the girls in the office asked if I wanted anything to drink; "coffee, tea or beer?" she asked. Well even then I didn't drink beer for breakfast and I asked for a glass of orange juice. She returned with it an hour later and explained that she needed to wait for the grocery store to open! Every morning for the next two weeks, there was a glass waiting for me when I showed up. One evening while partying at a local music bar, I met Franz Klammer, the 1976 Olympic gold medalist skier. My company not only paid for the trip and the rental car there, but also paid for my passport! Driving on the Autobahn was interesting.

One thing at a time. Otherwise, the stress can be overwhelming. You got this!

How did the drop off go? It's ok for Dad's eyes to tear up.

Always tough to lose a faithful member of the family like that. But the way she went was probably easier on you than what we had a year ago with our little doggie. Had to put her down when the vet couldn't relieve her pain, and after my wife caring for her for a year and a half with cancer. They say that when good dogs pass, they go to Rainbow Bridge, where they are young and healthy again, and play all day with others, and wait for their humans to join them some day.
Chichi's buddy Lucy just about shut down, and we were afraid we'd lose her at age 12. So last March we got her a crazy cocker spaniel puppy, which has given her a new leash (pun intended) on life. At 13, she will, when the mood strikes, will chase him up and down the hall and in the back yard.
You won't forget Val, but time will help.
