Good Morning All. Mostly cloudy and 39°, heading up to 62°. Should be a glorious day.

Grocery shopping yesterday went OK. They're still rearranging the store to make the aisles wider which is a good thing. Interesting observation in the egg department. Yes, the prices have skyrocketed. 18 months ago, the cheap store brand white large eggs were 49¢ a dozen. Now they are $5.25/doz and none were available. The Simple Truth brand brown organic eggs which we normally purchase were plentiful and they are $5.99/doz. Many folks seem to have an aversion to brown eggs. Gasoline locally is still steadily rising, nearing and in some cases exceeding $3/gal.
I ended up changing the oil in the car yesterday afternoon instead of waiting another day. It went without any issues. After that I walked up the road and stopped at a neighbors house and drank beer with him, his dad, another neighbor, is SIL and a friend; in what we affectionately refer to as "the clubhouse" in the back yard. It's a three walled covered tin structure that serves as his garage, his place of business (small engine and ATV repair) and the clubhouse, which contains a couple of couches, a fridge, a TV, a smoker and a grill. His wife doesn't allow the group to get rowdy in the house. Says that it scares the cat! She does occasionally join in when she's not at work. I've known this fellow since he was 10 years old (1981) and by the way, his name is Bubba.

Due to my socializing and my wife's desire to eat at the local Italian place last night, I did not get into the train shed yesterday. Today I will round the corner and start cleaning structures on the north wall. Sorry no pictures this morning, maybe later.

Patrick - What a rough week! Have y'all determined what really caused the disruption?
Tom O - I have better options when I use the Humana mail-order prescription service. Always a 90 day supply and I get an automated call about 15 days before they are due to be refilled. If a refill is not available, their automated system faxes my doctor's office for a refill. Works out well for those ongoing scripts like BP medications. It's the one time things like the cream that the dermatologist prescribed, and others that I want to start immediately instead of having to wait 4-5 days for mail order. We also use the local place when our doctors are changing medications around to find the right combination and we don't want an excessive supply to pay for or dispose of. Cost is not a factor, as the pharmacy is part of Humana's network.
Curt - Some of these Chinese manufacturers have distribution centers in North America and can get products to folks rather quickly.
Swal - Good suggestion, I'll create something o the computer.
Joe - I definitely agree about the salt in foods from mainly fast foods places. I don't patronize any of them except twice a year at Whataburger and a few times at Jersey Mikes. I ask for no seasoning there. I also tend to agree about the obesity factor, although there are other reasons as well.

How appropriate that we have been talking about pizza and Philly Cheesesteak, because today is National Cheese Lover’s Day.
Everybody have a great day and a wonderful weekend.

This just in!

Amish Powerball is up to 4 dozen eggs!

and in more somber news

Today is the one year anniversary of the passing of one Michael Aday, a.k.a. Meatloaf .
I shall dance the Time Warp and listen to Bat out of Hell tonight in his honor
Here's a clip made a few months before his passing , and check out Mike Huckabee playing bass!

I agree. Stephen Stills was the best songwriter of the three, in my opinion, as well as the best musician... and I, personally, love Stephen Stills' voice.

Didn't Crosby pen a couple of the Birds' most popular songs, like Mr. Tambourine Man, and Turn, Turn, Turn? It seems like once he joined up with Stills and Nash, his songwriting suffered.. like he was trying too hard to be the "protest" songwriter. And the whole "almost cut my hair today" song that, for the life of me, I have no idea why people think that song is anything other than garbage is beyond me.

But, he was influential, in his own way, so we have to acknowledge that. I just wish he would have focused on music and less on his out of control ego.
I have to agree about Stephen Stills, but I think that he began burning out and getting bored in the late 80's.

Mr Tambourine Man was written by Bob Dylan and Turn, Turn, Turn was a Pete Seeger song from the 50's. The only notable song that David co-wrote with the Byrds was Eight Miles High, which was more written by Gene Clark and Roger McGuinn.
I feel the same way about Almost Cut My Hair, but the lead guitar in that song by Neil Young is most outstanding. Trivial note: It was recorded in only one take with no overdubs. Another trivial note, it is one of only two songs on the album that had Neil Young playing on besides the three that he wrote. The other one was Woodstock.

Still though as I posted last night, as a group member on rhythm guitar and vocal harmonies, he had no equal.

at 9:20am it is 24F. May be a bit sunny today after overcast and light flurries yesterday. Just wish it was 34F instead of 24F. Sunday supposed to have some snow (60% chance frozen mix) but otherwise next week is mostly cloudy and in the 20s...

When I lived in Arizona as a kid I had never seen a brown egg. When we moved to Mass, they had white and brown. We didn't care and now I usually buy brown. I buy the "cage free" flax fed (high omega-3) eggs. Though right now we buy any available, white or brown, as needed. But when the free range or cage free are only 40 cents more than the generic white factory eggs I'll go for the brown cage free any day. They taste better and often have more nutrients (as their diet is better)

I try and drink a bunch of water throughout the day. Amongst other things it keeps sodium flushed out as well as other stuff.

I got out a generic N-scale tram I bought on vacation as someone posted in another forum an article on adding a decoder. Unfortunately it was for an earlier iteration of the Pocket line from KATO and the new one has a different motor unit using a coreless and it was not obvious last night how to get the cover off (not body which was easy but motor cover). Have to get my super duper cheap chinese reading glasses that I use for detail work out and try again...

I'd like to spend time with you discussing, and listening to music. It's nice to meet people who share an interest in the history behind the music. But i wouldn't drive a day and a half from Ohio to do it, LOL!

BTW, Neil Young is one of my top 4 guitarists of all time: Steve Howe, Mark Knopfler, David Gilmour and Neil. There are others who may have been technically more capable (Clapton, Peter Green, Gary Moore,, Steve Vai, SRV, etc) but there's something about those 4 that really grab ahold of me.

Steve Howe - Extremely talented, and technically proficient, however, sometimes he tries to do "too much." HIs live rendition of "The Clap" on "The Yes Album" sounds like 2 people playing the guitar. You can hear the counterpoint in teh song. Imagine being able to play 2 tunes simulateously like that... mind blowing.
Mark Knopfler - What can I say. His guitar can be so achingly haunting, yet beautiful at the same time.
David Gilmour - He does as much between the notes as he does with the notes themselves. So does Nick Mason on the drums, which is one of the reasons I'm so into Pink Floyd.

Don't get me started.. I could talk about music all day!

edit to add: I just had to listen to Almost Cut My Hair, and you can tell it's Neil on the guitar for sure!! I just can't get past Crosby being Crosby, LOL.

My favorite Neil Young piece is "Cortez the Killer" from the live portions of the ARC/WELD album.

When I was working, I had breakfast on the go, enroute from the station to the engine house. I'd grab a Duncan breakfast sandwich, or an Einstein Bagel and schmere. Lunch would be a cheese steak, a Large Hoagie, (similar to a sub), or one of Sal Manella's Chicken Parms with sliced tomato and peppers. While waiting for 42, (engine change), it was back to Duncan for a couple donuts plus coffee. Once home I'd gulp down leftover dinner or a Marie Calendar frozen dinner...I averaged 230. Once I retired, I dropped down to a range of 190 - 200, eating mostly at home, keeping regular meal times. Eventually the weight settled at 185 + 0r -, until this past fall, when I blew up like a balloon. I kind of like where I'm at, clothes all fit well, and gastric distress is greatly diminished. The only problem, is finding low salt / no salt food is difficult

Good afternoon from the bench in So. Central Wisconsin.

I have to listen to some of the songs listed here today. Crosby lived a full life but honestly I recall nothing of his that seemed outstanding or memorable.

Afternoon All,

Started out with a walk at 66F. No jacket needed. If it was about 5 degrees warmer, it would be like summer. The only thing going on today is packing up for a road trip (about 6 hours) to southern SC (above Hardeeville) where we are staying with friends. We'll be there until next Friday or Saturday. Son, daughter, and SIL will keep an eye on Dad while we are gone. I'll look in the forum but probably not post while gone.

Hughie- Very nice layout shots and lighting effects.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Jeff - Nothing wrong with that list, but I don't know if I could narrow my list down to just four. I would have to add both Jeff Beck and Duane Allman to the list for sure.

If you want to talk about talent and great guitarist mine believe it or not was the late Roy Clark. Just saying that man could play a guitar at insane levels and genres.

Another of my favs was Doc Watson.

Good Afternoon All!
35F and partly. Got to 31F last night.

Welp, yesterday was a bust. Went out in the train cave and had my electrical belt on, ladder in place and the wife text's me. 'Ready to go to Spokane?'. I do seem to remember saying something about that, so, went back in.

Plan was URM's cash N carry to look for big boxes of Bisquik as we can not seem to find any anywhere. Love filling a 5 gallon bucket with the stuff.
Then, since it was on the way - Valley Trains and Models in Spokane Valley, heading afterward to VA Hospital, Lowes then CostCo. Left Libby bout 0800.

I had been in Valley Trains sometime last year when they were just getting started - not much there at that time. Seems that since Sunset Junction ( downtown Spokane ) closed, they are getting the business. They had quite a bit of stuff to look through. Will be back.

Wanted 2 push brooms from Lowes but it apparently went out of my brain as I stopped by the electrical row and found those thingies that ya put in a 4" electrical box to clamp the romax. Got 100 of them. ACE has them for $1.29 each, got the container from Lowes for $41.00 - I can't beat that. Also picked up a couple of 20A breakers.

By the time we left CostCo, we had no walk left in us. Didn't even spend what we usually do as we had just been to CostCo and The Chef's Store in Kalispell. Wanted a new pair of glasses; the eye guy was out until 1300 and I did not want to wait. I did get my hearing aids fixed and cleaned. The ear guy did the whole shebang in about 8 minutes. Takes me about 1/2 hour just to clean'm.

On the way back after we were beyond Sandpoint Idaho, wife says "Aren't we gonna stop and eat?". Geesh, didn't want to go back and almost started to turn around when I remembered 'The Brewery' in Bonners Ferry. Stopped there. I had shrimp and chips, she was fish and chips. Boy it was almost to much to eat and was good.

Got home about 1800 and checked the stove in the Train Cave then came back in the house and crashed in the recliner. So a nap before bed is legal isn't it?

Looking back, it wasn't a bust as stated above. I posted in RPO what I got. Apparently nobody wanted them as the are a 'modified' version from the factory. Put a decal on top of the NP herald that was supposed to allude to the BN merger. Make the image of the A unit bigger and you can see what I am talking about. Does not look to hard to fix. Didn't pay the price on the box though.

I found some time to import a new esu sound file into my blank Lok Sound 5 decoder. It wasn't easy because I tried to use the import decoder project from the file menu. It seems that if you use this method the programmer looks for a file ending with *.esu. There are none. Their now all LocProgramer5 files. My friend Pat tells me you have to click on the downloaded sound file. The Esu Programmer will load the file into the programmer. Next you must write file data and after that write sound data which will take at least 30 minutes. You'll find the horns in CV 163.
I did CV 163 = 7. I think that horn sound the best of the 2nd Generation horn pack 2 found in Function Mapping part of the programmer for a GE C39-8.

I do not doubt it, I should have clarified that I was only using the rock genre. I am not familiar enough with country music to make any judgement there. My wife says that Keith Urban and Vince Gill are also pretty good.
