Good morning all!

A foggy start to the morning. It has actually burned off quite a bit since I woke up. Going to be more like a late spring day around
here. Currently 43F heading up to a high of 65F. Record for today is 60F. We will go past that today. Its defiantly shorts weather in
the Midwest.

Been puttering around the house this morning doing some laundry and other tidying up from last nights birthday party for my daughter.
Since its a state holiday both my wife is off work and the daughter is off school.

Not much else going on at the moment. Going to try and get some train time this afternoon and tonight.

Have a safe day everyone!

It's not really a matter of wussie .22 caliber. It's how well you can put a 4mm bullet on a target at 50 yards after strenuous physical exercise of cross country skiing. .22LR is cheap and plentiful to practice with. Some of those wussie .22LR competition rifles are upwards of $5K starting price. Walther, Hammerli, and others all offer high-end Olympic grade rifles for use in these competitions.
Nothing you said is wrong. I fully understand it. It doesn’t disagree with what I said. (You did notice the emoji, right?)

The “US Gun Culture” is not geared to competitive shooting with target 22s. Hence there is not spill over into biathlon to make the U.S. a powerhouse. And x-country skiing is not the cultural thing in the U.S. that it is in the nordics and some other European places as well.

I don’t even think U.S. shooters do that well in the summer games target shooting. ?? But they do do well in the shotgun disciplines on occasion.

Actually, German gun culture isn't geared toward .22LR competition either. It is usually 9mm and up and they have a lot of the same club chapters we have here. .22LR is like an Olympic sub-set of shooting. It's very expensive to get into the sport and not many are willing to spend that amount on a rifle. Not to mention all of the specialized clothing, rifle accessories, travel costs, etc.

I love those rifles and would love even more to try one out sometime, but there's no way I would spend that much for that kind of accuracy for a .22LR rifle. .308 or 7,62x51 yes, but not for a .22LR.

Well howdy there internet shooters, keyed up and relaxed.

Anyone remember this gent and his partner taking silver?

I've got a buckmaster??? .22 target pistol I was going to get into shooting with, but never got around to it. I should find someone local to list it for me.

In other news, I took Lord Fuzzbutt in for his "Old man" shots (Solensia for arthritis). And there was this cute little bonded pair just sitting there. Begging for someone to take them home....

The darn cookie mafia is everywhere. I thought I was safe, but one of the Vet Tech ladies has a girl scout in her pile of children.... So I supported the cause!

Long distance driving is not fun once you reach this demographic! :) The wife, daughter, and I drove down to Birmngham some time back. Like a damn fool I cannonballed it. Never again. Damn near killed all of us. I had just bought this fancy Chrysler Pacifica all decked out, rear seat entertainment, Thule cargo pod, the works! Unfortunately, 14 hours in anything is just a bit much. I've always been in a tearing hurry to get there and start the vacation. Now that I don't work, I heed to adjust my driving habits and take a day or three so we aren't so spent when we get where we're going.

Totally understand. About a year after retirement there was a massive accident on i35 in Fort Worth. Got off on a side road to get around FW and suddenly realized there’s no need to rush. Back roads are ok and 2-3 hours drive time is enough before we switch. Sure there are always exceptions but the need to drive the Interstates isn’t as strong neither is driving in the 80mph ranges

Good morning gang!

35° and fog, warm air passing over snow cover type fog, with a daytime high of 45°.

Other than cleaning and laundry and the Daytona 500 nothing happened yesterday. Almost fell asleep during the final 3rd of the race. 3 Toyotas got to the lead, then ran 3 abreast until the final 15 laps or so. Then they slowed to pace trying to save fuel, and let no one pass. What a snooze fest! Still they had to pit for fuel and that's where the action returned. I tuned in to watch an actual race, not an economy run.

Tonight, the mid-month bill revue, then maybe trains, or a cold adult beverage or 2!

Tom, I hope Terry feels better.

BBL

Thank you, we seem both to be doing well this morning

I posted this a few months ago, but it was the unfinished version. I finished it up a few days ago. I get bored with the winter, and it usually results in me starting some railroad model display project. Some small and some big. This 4 X 7-foot 2/3'rd scale CR caboose was one of them. Although it sat unfinished for years, I added the finally touches yesterday. Willie back then asked me what's behind the door. I think I replied, the inside of the caboose. Swal

I think the guy on the left is shooting a Walther GSP or OSP, but not certain. I don't know what the guy on the right has, but I think it is a 10 meter Luftpistole. Not the same competition.
I think the person on the left if Kim Yeji. Not sure what she's shooting, but here's a clearer angle of her from the Air Pistol trials. The photo in the Meme I posted looks like a different pistol comp outside of the olympics. But she got the silver in Women's 10m Air pistol in 2024 Paris.
