Stonehenge Winter Solstice 2025

Morning all,

Already have laundry going, had and cleaned up breakfast and finally got the rest of yesterday's leftover packed away. Son pointed out that I lost a section of fence behind the shed and unfortunately , it a corner post, so I gotta fix it. The newish neighbor behind piled the wood back on my side instead of knocking on my door and telling me about it. If I had my druthers I'd take a chainsaw to the whole fence and if the neighbors want their pets, etc. to not wander, then they can put up a fence. I'm getting tired of the wind taking out a fence that was built with the wrong material. Rough cedar should NEVER be used as below ground posts. Not sure which former owner was the stupid one. Probably the first one. House was built in 1999. We are the 6th owners and we bought it in 2014.

Currently 29° and clear going for a high later 52°. High tomorrow is about 65ish.

Good Advent Sunday Morning folks. 31°F chilly degrees this morning. The Talking Heads and their Magic 8-Ball upped the temperature once again for Christmas Day. Now up to 73°F and if that happens, breaks the old record of 71°F.

Going to wrap my nephew's Christmas presents today, pop some biscuits in the oven, and drink my coffee. That about covers my day.

Have a great Advent Sunday!

Servus!

Good morning drinkers of the beer, water, WEAK diet Dr Pepper (I hope never to have that happen to me), cow juice and whatever else floats your boat. If I’d show a beer budget for me, it’d be maybe $25 a year. Just not a fan, but my diet Dr Pepper budget, while there is none, would be about $10 a week. That’s the cost of 16 bottles that are 16.9oz each.

Weather in Wisconsin is bordering on cool to cold. Cool by the real temperature but the cold wind chills are back. 8f degrees now but with the wind chill it’s zero. Yesterday the wind chills never climbed above +5.

The son arrived as I was getting out of the car from the OPS Session yesterday at 9:50pm. Had a great time there yesterday. Their drive was uneventful!

The grandson plays hockey at 9:30 this morning at home. The 2 games this afternoon are in Dubuque, Iowa.

The Badger Volleyball has 5 ladies in the transfer portal. That definitely will change the look of the team next year. 4 seniors and 5 portal girls, so. 9 of 15 is a big turnover. I have mixed feelings about this but it’s the nature of the new NCAA beast where the inmates are in charge. It’s so crazy even the guy in the White House has a plan to fix it by executive order

The son said last night he wants to hit up the LHS as he’s buying a slot car for his nephew and himself for Christmas. He asked last week if I have any sections of track he can haul to Texas. I have the material but nothing he could put together as it needs the slots routed, he asked how long! We will take the material to the daughter’s work shop today and get him something built to haul home on the 26th. He had a modest track designed so if I have enough along with what the daughter has it won’t take long. He brought his truck so he can pick up today or tomorrow what I’m missing if anything. We will do framework for a couple hours this afternoon. We will route the track if all goes well tomorrow. He can add the braided pick up when he gets home. Both he and the g/f joined a slot club in New Braunfels. This should be fun. His new place in Wimberly is under roof but his contractor says June move in. The house that was on the ranch is still being remodeled for the girlfriend’s mom and older sister. He sold that and 5 acres to the girlfriend. That they said last night is sometime move in ready in January. Finally hit the pillows at 1:40

Enjoy the day

Good morning all!

A cool Sunday morning to start. Currently 16F with an expected high of 30F under mostly sunny skies. Still a little below
average for this time of year but pretty close.

Have a few things to do today. Laundry is already going and I have to make the weekly grocery run. Normally that is done
Saturday, but things got busy and it got decided to hold off till today. I also have to run the wife's car to get it filled up. Some
other minor odds and ends.

Not much else going on in my world. Been pretty straight forward lately.

Have a safe day everyone!

Good morning...I'm back, long hours plowing snow which has all melted. A couple of guys were sick at work then the wife got sick. As much as I tried to stay healthy working the extra hours with guys off got me run down and out of commission. The past 3 days all I've done is get caught up on sleep. About 95% better, hopefully everyone is healthy for the next round.

Good to see you back posting. was wondering why you had been kind of scarce lately.

Good Morning All. Cloudy and 50°. Clouds are not going to go away and we'll only get to 60° today. Yesterday, it was as high as 82° here, and we'll be back into the upper-70's and lower-80's for the rest of the week. Yesterday's high broke a record.

Yesterday's family Christmas get-together went well. My brother had the tent set up on his patio, but for shade rather than warmth, the sides were rolled up. He had his Lionel Christmas display up in the dining room, but I didn't think to bring either the camera or the phone with me. Unlike many, my phone is not tethered to me all of the time, although I do usually carry it in the car. Yesterday it was home on the charger. Yep, 51 people is quite a gathering.

R&R today at the SFW house. Maybe wrap a few Christmas presents. Brought home some sliced ham and turkey, so I'll make the ham into ham salad and freeze the turkey. Left some at brother's house and brought home some leftover shrimp that he had. Other than church, I'm not sure that we have to leave the house again until Thursday...yesterday's traffic was horrible with slowdowns as soon as we got on the Interstate and accidents in several places along the way. Unfortunately the wife's phone app wasn't informing us soon enough about most of them. Road construction on the Interstate in Dallas was also an issue, the express lanes are closed while being re-built.

No time out in the train shed yesterday, but I opened up and inspected an extra freight car Friday for my "Ten Days of Christmas" project. This one however will probably never make it on to the layout. It was a Christmas gift from daughter #1 about 10 years ago. It's a commemorative Athearn Coca Cola tanker with a build date 35 years before my era; if it is even representative of a real car.

Part of my long range plans include making a display case for stuff like this. It's a nice car though, and as you can see, it has metal wheels already.

Mike - Yep, the Hallmark channel this time of year allows me to do pretty much anything that I want except make noise in the living room.
Tom O - Meat managers are generally willing to do anything to sell that much tenderloin in a single sale. The one that I dealt with Thursday was willing to split off ~3# pretty readily. Of course she is also our next door neighbor out here in the boonies, married to the still incarcerated crazy man.
Michael - I learned many years ago between layouts #1 and #2, that reusing rail joiners is not practical, no matter how much effort I used to make them right.
My beer budget is no longer as high as it was in the 90's by a few hundred.
Karl - My wildest dream is to find a BMW driver who isn't going 10 mph under the limit in the left lane.

Late musician/composer Frank Zappa was born on this day in 1940. Sadly, he died in 1993 from cancer. His music was not for everybody. Strangely, he was strongly opposed to drug usage as far back as the early 60's.

Everyone have a great Sunday.

Across Celtic, Germanic, and many other ancient cultures, the winter solstice wasn’t just an astronomical event it was a spiritual turning point.

The winter solstice was a celebration of survival, community, and the return of light. It was a reminder that even in the deepest darkness, the world was turning toward the light, warmth and life again. It’s no wonder later traditions absorbed its themes of hope, rebirth, and light shining in the darkness.
