Same Ol' Buzzard
Good Morning All, on this shortest day of the year. Clear with a chilly temperature of 27°. Still have the same dreary weather forecast for high north winds and clear skies tomorrow eventually dropping the low temperature to single digits Friday morning. Might have sunshine Saturday and make it up to 33° in the early afternoon. Low Saturday morning around 20°, well above single digits. Upper 60's by this time next week!
My forecast is not as severe as Patrick has, about 300 miles north of me. Wind chill of -15°, but just for 24 hours, and no snow expected.
I'll go to the grocery store today for a few items that they were out of last week that weren't critical. They're still not critical, but I have some other errands to go on as well. I expect some panic shopping today and a lot more tomorrow. I skipped the trip to town yesterday with my wife. She was going to a few "girlie" stores and Walmart. She reported back that Walmart was an absolute madhouse, as I expected.
Out in the train shed yesterday, I completed the ballasting of the four tracks that I intended, all 64' of them. At the south end, they remain undone, but I got as far as I had planned. Leaving that end unfinished because I haven't determined the final track geometry there yet.
From this picture, you can also see that I have advanced the ground cover on the left and started it between the tracks as well.
I also worked on the horse corral next to the last home in the existing town of Jamestown.
Once the mounting glue sets up, I intend to hit it with some dull coat and weathering. I decided that the horses were large enough that if I accidentally knocked one off, I should be able to find it, unlike the doggie next door which I fear is gone forever; or inside the hand-held vacuum.
Tom O - Open house from noon to 9:00 pm!!! I'm too old for a party of that length. Have fun.
regeiter - I am also a sucker for P2K kits. Just before retiring while I was still buying freight cars, I purchased over 30 Accurail kits. I think that I have two left on the unbuilt shelf.
Alan - I have been extremely lucky with P2K kits. The only parts that break on me are the roof grabs on covered hoppers. But I also ream out all holes on all parts with a small drill bit in a pin vise. Figured that out on the first one that I built over 20 years ago.
Curt - That is my only European car. My brother in law gave it to me for Christmas maybe 8 or 9 years ago. He said the LHS guy said that it would run on HO track, which it does. Problem is that there were no couplers on it and it is 80 years before my era. Kadees do not fit. I think that it was Chris who told what European coupler to use, but it still wouldn't have mated up with anything that I have. He purchased it for the Heineken logo on it.
Besides being the first day of winter today, it is the birthday of two notable persons in the entertainment business. The late musician Frank Zappa would have been 82, and Hanoi Jane (Jane Fonda) is 85 today.
Everybody have a great day.
