Good evening.

Curt: The new track from the mine looks great. I think your new configuration will add to your operating flexibility.

Garry:
The photos of your steel mill are absolutely great. Only thing missing is the cloud of reddish brown smoke. The SDs look good also.

Picked up a copy of the 1st Quarter 2016 TRP (Trains and Railroads of the Past) Magazine at Barnes & Noble. The theme is Conrail 40th Anniversary. Loads of great photos from the Early days, as well as another great story from former co-worker Mike Bednar.

I hope to run some wire to the various blocks I established on the temporary track layout. I need a refresher on DC wiring.

Ok guys one post before bed. I'll show y'all where my idea came from. In all honesty its where my layout design came from. Well it is the base I just put my spin on it and ran with it.

Good Morning All. It's 42 degrees and cloudy here this morning. Weather Channel says rain starting about 9:00 am. Radar shows rain about 15 miles north of me moving off to the east. I guess we'll get the next wave which is still in Oklahoma. High today was 43, going down to 29 tonight. If the roads are still wet, watch out! Well I survived the oral surgery yesterday. My dentist is GOOD. No pain today at all. No pills needed either except for antibiotics. Had five teeth removed. I go back in six months to have the implant posts set for some of them. Not replacing all of them.
CS3 - I like Garry's suggestion of the kitbashed gondola. I agree with others that this could lead to a staging yard expansion.
Curt - You re-model faster than I model. Looking forward to the final(?) results.
Eric - I know the feeling, I do think that my trains missed me yesterday.
Garry - If I hadn't said so already, that's a very nice mill. Great picture of the SD's. Are those background buildings part of the backdrop or are they free-standing? If they're free-standing, I would love to see additional shots.
Dave - Got those backdrops installed yet? I know you were itching to get them. I'd offer to help, but Minnesota is a long way from here, even by Texas standards.
Chet - Yeah, it never occurred to me to photograph this one until you posted the video. It's held up remarkably well in the 35 years I've been seeing it, who knows how long it was there prior to that. The nice thing about this one is that there hasn't been any vandalism ever. A grass/brush fire came within 25' of it about 15 years ago. We have some good VFD's around here.

Well since it is supposed to rain here today, I can catch up with the trains all day. I actually have a plan! I am going to disassemble, clean and lubricate three P2K GP60's that have been in storage for 6 1/2 years. I hope to reassemble them as well! And then to my New Years resolution of completing some scenery. Curt is making me feel left behind. LOL

Good morning

Joe ... Thanks ..... I might get quite a reaction if I release reddish brown smoke in the house. .. LOL
Willie .... Thanks for commenting, the steel mill backdrop is basically a photographic image with lots of ugly steel mill buildings in it.
Chessie ... The Atlantic Central track plan looks like a winner to me.

Have a nice day, everybody.

That's why there's signals.

I'd put a piece of clear plexiglass on the edge of the layout at the end of those tracks, just in case one of the turnouts ever gets accidentally thrown. It'll save a lot of grief and broken trains. No need to ask how I know this...

I figure you have had a horrible experience with this. The idea is to have staging off of my layout. A place to run my trains to. That way I can pull loads and return empties and move around motive power as to ensure its not the same engines coming in and going out. I'm looking at ideas to see what will work the best for me. More so I'm not really pressed to get this idea off the ground as I have plenty to keep me busy. I still have to get cork down for my yards. Everything else has already been done up.

Got wind late last night the Baretta is no longer for sale. The guy decided to keep it.... but told my buddy he has plenty of others he'll let me have for the same price. Something in a 40 or 45 would be ok I suppose.
Talk about having a rug pulled out from underneath. Deals like that don't come along often... never in my book apparently.
Sigh...

Good morning. 44°, with the sun coming through the clouds. We ended up with ¼" of rain overnight. Now, it's supposed to get cold again.

CS3: Not a bad plan to start with, and your mine tipple revision, makes it better. the diamond, I imagine could lead to two separate staging areas, creating a point to point option. Good choice there.

I need to get moving on my layout. I have to buy more lumber and foam, otherwise, I'm treading water.

CURT- How does your back feel ? That's a lot of bending to do. Does the power get through all the turnouts?

Today promises to be nice. Temp. up to mid 70's. Tomorrow storms, some heavy winds/rain then temps going down to winter temps.

Phil

Good Afternoon Everybody!

I just have a few minutes to say hello.

If I missed any posts aimed at me, forgive me, I have not had time to read through everything.

Have a great day everybody!

Afternoon All,

Spent about 4 hours working on the layout today. I started out testing and everything worked fine except my L1 found a dip in a track so I fixed that. Everything works great electrically, although the shifter track had no power and then I realized that switch was an Electrofrog and 1 rail was isolated. After I put a set of jumpers on it there was no problem. After that although my locos went through the connecting track to the ladder without issue they appeared to jerk past the first turnout so I widened that track a little and it looks much better now. After that I laid the main I had previously removed and it actually is straighter now than it was before.

At this point I did not feel like soldering joiners and power leads (one of least favorite jobs) so I started removing what I needed to in the yard for the next phase of remodeling. You can probably see that I had two entrance leads and I am modifying that to one. That removes a turnout on the main. So for this project I will need 3 LH T/O's which I should receive next Saturday.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Well, I managed to get something done in the "train cave" today.
Took down a big wall mirror and hung a shelf unit to house my shot glass collection in.
Larry gave me the shelf the other day. Looks to be dark black walnut stain in color.
I'll put up a pic later after the shot glasses are done in the dishwasher.
My Marine buddy was here so I decided to take "the boys" out for a few laps.
At least I ran some trains today!!!
I was starting to feel neglectful as an operator so I figured I better at least do a little showing.
E.

Good evening ERIC. You piqued my curiosity. I looked in a cabinet and found our three shot glasses. One each NEW YORK-STURGIS 2000 and CALVERT.[Whiskey]
Haven't used them for years. Prime dust collectors. The Calvert was my Dad's. Gotta be 60 years ,or so, old.

Waiting for the forcasted storms to arrive. Anytime after 1 a m.
Hope all you 'YANKEES' stay warm and safe
Phil

I didn't get to work on the layout any today as it is my misses birthday so the focus was on giving her a special day. Did manage to get the paint I needed for my track. Hopefully I can run a test on some track tomorrow before I go all out on my layout. I do need some solder though. I can't for the life of me find the solder I had gotten. Two moves I'm sure it got lost in transit along the way.
