Oohey! That was cold. No wind so that was good.
40 minutes to walk up there, shop and walk back - not bad at all.
Might as well put up the new grocs, have a beer and go back to bed.
I'll have to re-think the plans (like there was any) on that corner.

Good Morning All. Cloudy and 41 degrees here today. Chance of showers later this morning. Radar shows scattered precipitation all over around here. I did feel a slight mist when I stepped on the back porch earlier. High today won't reach 50 but it is supposed to be in the upper 60's tomorrow and Friday.
Spent four hours yesterday on the grocery trek. Got my free roast chicken from Sam's Club that my wife joined last week...it was a Groupon special offer. At least that paid for the gas to get there and back. LOL No train shed activity at all yesterday except about an hour in the early morning; I cleared brush from some of the dead trees I've been cutting down, five down 14 to go. I'm not in a hurry!
new guy - Glad you were able to get the Shark running without dismantling it. It's one of the great things about the Internet and this forum. Ask and you will eventually get an answer. Curt - Thank you for the belated wishes. I also stare at the layout a lot, with loud music playing in the background; probably why I don't get more scenery done! Eric - Free is always good, to an extent; that's why part of my property looks like Fred Sanford's backyard! Sorry to hear the job didn't work out longer for you.
Well I'm hoping for a light rain so I am confined indoors (train shed) today. Don't need a heavy one as the ground is still saturated from the rain on December 26-27.

Good morning everyone. After my paint fiasco on Monday I'll more than likely take on that project again I'll have to find the right blue. So I got a lesson on the internet and that is not always is the info you seek correct. Then again if my unit was an undecorated unit then yes that blue would work. But I'm just modifying the nose on this unit and that's it. I do have a way to test the yellow. I'll do something with it today. I can't find any other yellows that I can use besides UP yellow. Oh and the blue I used was ATSF blue as my lhs both of them are out of C&O blue which looks really close to ATSF blue. It was worth the risk to try it out.
Good morning all. Starting off at 28 degrees this morning. We acrulaay got above freezing for the first time in over a week to 36 degrees yesterday.
Joe. - Looks like you're getting closer to finally starting sone serious planning. Can't wait to see what you come up with.
Eric - Enjoyed the short conversation last night. My wife was getting on my case because I was cooking supper but was on the phone not doing what I was supposed to. Gotta keep the other half happy.
Curt - I did make the chain link fence in yesterdays photo. That is a very old part of the layout and used what I had on hand.
Terry - Sounds like you got a great deal on another locomotive. Don't have any where near enough I guess.
Guess I'll post my photo for the day of this guy waiting at the repair ship. Yes, there are some details inside the shop but without proper lighting don't show up in the photo. This is another very old build. Seems everything I have is old.

The job/work is still there. I wasn't fired. Just a matter of Larry getting off his current binge as it turns out. At least he wasn't/isn't in jail. I talked to our mutual friend (my former land surveyor boss) last night. He said he would check in on him today and give me a call later in the day. The guy has some personal and family issues and no friends to speak of. Like me, he wants to trust and help people to a fault and now he's become leery of everyone - also like me. At some point I'll get him to talk to me - off the clock. Knowing what I know of him so far, he'll keep it on the clock. I'm certainly a ton cheaper than a therapist and I get along just fine with his dogs and his guns.
The upside is he doesn't do drugs. THAT I wouldn't deal with at all and would walk away in a heart beat.
As much as he vetted me to come over and work for/with him, I vetted him as well. I probably know way more about him than he does me. Besides that he's been an open book with me - except for one thing that he hasn't mentioned yet. I'm just waiting for him to tell me. I won't bring it up.
That's ok. Took me the better part of 2 years to break this feral cat - Big Smokey. Now he's my little buddy and won't leave the house.

Good morning, light mist in the air and 22. A few more mild days and then we are gonna get real winter! Talking double digits below zero, something more "normal" for this location.
I thought it might have been an old Bachmann! I had a short flirtation with HO scale in the late 70's and bought a Bachmann U boat lettered in a Spirit of '76 scheme for some railroad, don't remember which. That Bachmann junk ended my foray into the HO world because it ran even worse than my Bachmann N scale and was downright horrible compared to my Trix N scale (which was actually pretty good).
Serious planning? Yes. I wish I had the time to document everything, like some others have, but since we took over management of the MIL's "life", time is a premium. I have wanted to replicate this branch line since Santa brought me a Marx 027 Alco S1, back in the 50s. What makes the Ford plant so captivating from a modeling perspective, is that this plant was so different from other assembly plants with which I have had a (railroad) connection, (Ford: Edison; GMC: Linden; Chrysler: Newark, DE).
I just realized the sump pump makes the exact same sound as the opening guitar note on the Beatles track "I feel fine"! LOL!
This hobby must be making a surge, I talked to a good friend I have not seen in months and he is helping a guy get a Layout building 'bizness' going, another guy I've known for many, many, years is suddenly in the NMRA and is a featured demonstrator at the next local meeting! WT HECK is a-goin on??????? I ain't no trend setter so I KNOW it's not MY fault!
Ok, so who else is taking a chance on this powerball action??? Pretty juicy payout this time! My wife shoved a slip at me yesterday so what the heck, I picked some #'s. Not really my thing (I've always thought the lottery is for the mathematically challenged) but SOMEBODY will win.
Tell ya what, if I win, I'll send all a y'all the loco of yur choice! My plan has always been if I ever DID hit big I will spread it around, it's what big bags of money are for and I came into this world naked, broke and screaming, going out the same way sounds like a good idea!
Good Morning 10 degrees with bright sun here in the Middletown Valley.
Wjl126 - The Newark plant is interesting. Started as a Tank Arsenal building M48 then M60 tanks later converted to cars. I'm not sure what is going on there now I know it has a parts distribution center. I think what remains after selling part off to the University of Delaware is a multi purpose commercial site now
Sounds like an old Bachmann to me. When I changed over to HO scale from N scale I was very careful to read and product reviews in model railroad magazines before I considered any locomotives because of being burn with the garbage that was on the market iiin N scale back in the 70's. Bachmann didn't get any rave reviews and I never touched a Bachmann locomotive until they came out with their Spectrum series. Some of them weren't stellar runners, but in recent years they really seem to have gotten their poop in a group and have been coming out with some very nice running locomotives. The old Athearn locomotives that were available back in the early 80's were some of the better running locomotives of the time and I still ended up having to do quite a bit of work to them besides installing new can motors.
Today there are some fantastic running locomotives. Athearn has their Genisis line. There's the Atlas/Kato locomotives, Bowser, Stewart and many other manufacturers. Sure wish I had that when I changed over to HO in the early 80's, but I can't say one bad word about my Atlas Alcos. They still run as good as anything available today.
I would seriously consider one of the newer locomotives instead of wasting your time on what appears to be junk.

As vast as my fleet is I don't own a single atlas, kato, or a stewart. My fleet is Bachmann which I have three. I have one life like p2k. The rest are Athearn.
You should look into something from those manufacturers. It will be like day and night. Older Athearn locomotives can be greatly improved by changing out the old wheels to nickel silver wheels and by hard wiring the pickups and getting rid of the clip that they have over the motor to the trucks.

I'm actually looking at an atlas at the moment. They have a C&O unit I'd love to have. Nickel silver wheels doesn't sound have a bad of an idea. Be the spark flying upgrade. All of my old bue boxes will fling sparks. Especially my U30C.
