Good morning everyone. After my paint fiasco on Monday I'll more than likely take on that project again I'll have to find the right blue. So I got a lesson on the internet and that is not always is the info you seek correct. Then again if my unit was an undecorated unit then yes that blue would work. But I'm just modifying the nose on this unit and that's it. I do have a way to test the yellow. I'll do something with it today. I can't find any other yellows that I can use besides UP yellow. Oh and the blue I used was ATSF blue as my lhs both of them are out of C&O blue which looks really close to ATSF blue. It was worth the risk to try it out.

How about the blue from the Blue Angels?
I'd be down with that.

Hmmmmm.......well being I'm from the army I might do up the gravel camo scheme.

LOL! I'm partial to the 80's "Upland/Woodland" cammo, it would look good on an old "F" unit!

I was Army too but I've had good "operational" results with the U.S.M.C. pattern from the same era! S'good stuff! A guy walked RIGHT passed me three feet from me when I was out bowhunting and had no clue I was STANDING RIGHT THERE! LOL!

Good morning folks.

I have the day off with pretty much nothing to do. I have no car since my wife has mine while we get the rear bumper repaired and repainted on the Avalanche. She bumped into a pole while backing up this fall and we decided to get it fixed. We love this truck and want it perfect.

I'm thinking I'll continue building one of my kits that has been sitting on the work bench for a while. I still need to paint the backdrop but I can't get myself to pull the trigger. I didn't really like how it turned out last time so I'm dragging my feet. I'm thinking the perspective was off last time with painting the bluff behind the city of Mankato, it was too high above the scene and looked like a mountain. Hmm, I think I may have just decided how to do it. Less is More!

Time to refresh the coffee. Have a good day everyone.

The old sintered iron wheels that they put on their early locomotives were nto good. They required constant cleaning and were well known for throwing sparks. Northwest Shortline makes whhel that ere replacements for the Athearn units. That was one of the first changes that I made to my old units.

Easy there Sparky!!! USMC is part of the Navy.
Plenty of friendly rivalry and scars to show for it. None on me, I was too good.

It's sometimes too fun to start some stuff and step back. One time I went out to shoot some pool at my local hangout. 3 dudes needed a 4th guy to play teams. No problem. The bartender (who knew me) hooked us all up. Military conversation cranked up and I just went quiet and took a seat and let them 3 go. One feller was 1st Recon (Marine). The other 2 were Army. One a Ranger and the other Green Beret. All 3 active. They all got to fussin on one another and I'm still sitting back enjoying the show. Then they all turn to me all quiet and stuff.
We had the pool table for the night so no one was going to mess with us. But they all 3 turned their attention to me having said nothing the whole time and they wanted my input. Feeling spry I huddled us 4 into a corner for a whisper and asked if any of them knew anything about Navy Special Warfare Command - more especially - OPERATORS. That little huddle busted right up - ooowaahhh!! And, they start comparing scars from fights with SEALs. I went back to my seat and watched the show. One of the boncers comes over "Hey E, you need to tell your boys to cool it". Weren't no problem. I didn't pay for a drink or a pool game all night.
Sometimes it's good when your reputation precedes you. Also good when you're in a biker bar and everyone knows you.
No problems. Nothing happened.
My biker buddies were cool with me although I didn't ride. I did have a wicked fast Mustang black on black convertible with 5.0 HO that was doctored up. They liked me. Them fellers were like "my 7 foot Klingon crew".
Too fun. That was circa 89 when that happened.

And today 7614 gets her paint. Most likely won't take as long to complete as 7612. This will be my powered unit as I'm going to upgrade her with directional lighting via LEDs and upgrade the motor to a newer Athearn motor. And wheels!!! Steel is a bad idea for wheels.

Good times, even though I was in the Army I've always had an affinity for the Corps! My Daddy was a Marine 50's style, trained by 'Frozen Cosin' veterans and got out just before Nam and many times he worked me as thought he had me on 'the grinder' at Dago! LOL! 'Partied' with the Recon guys at Jump School cause I was about the only Army guy who could understand the Marine E-7's commands that he was delivering "in the BEST tradition of the CORPS" when marching us to chow! (he said "AY-auff...ACE" and hardly any of the Army people did a left face! LOL!) In Korea I had the pleasure and Honor of operating with some Marine elements in and around 'the Z'. (VERY "strack" dudes!) Plus I got absolutely A-1 treatment on Okie, Guam, down in "P.I." and in Hawaii from ALL the Marines I had the Honor to meet when "traveling and working!" (TDY!! WOO HOO!)

SEMPER FI!

Dang Chess... you must be loaded up on Chessie engines.
The only 1 I have is a U36B old Tyco unit.
But I have the matching caboose that goes with it.
I'll make it DCC some day and swap out the couplers - some day.

Oh I have a few. I have some others as well. I have a Western Maryland GP40. C&O SD40 and of course my blemished U30C. I also have a B&O GP30.

Dam straight SEMPER FI!!!!
If you want to get your heart strings really pulled at, go watch the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknowns.
Then go watch a silent drill team practice their craft.
USMC should have a trademark on "reverence" and "honor". They do in my book.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YeKd9urRhTQ
My favorite video to give people a "taste" of training.
That was a "good day". "The only good day was yesterday".

No one really understands the intensity of things like that. Makes for great video and movies and stuff - try it for real.]
Pucker factor zero.

Intensity, ya a lotta that! It's a REAL twist on the head living at 1000 miles an hour and three years later the first person you see 'back on the block' is wearing the SAME shirt he had on the last time you seen em! OY!

I like the Silent Drill Team, they speak 'the language of the RIFLE!" People should examine the formations they do, they have MEANING!!!

Nothing like being in a Platoon that has 'got it' and you can feel the power when you are being 'put through your paces' by a GOOD N.C.O. out there on the drill field!

It's enough to make me re-up! NOT!

I hope everybody is having a Merry "little" Christmas. While this is a day of celebration for me and my family it is always bitter sweet as it is the last day of the Christmas season.

Evening All,

Cleaned house today while MOH volunteered at school. Made a trip to a stationary store to pickup a larger card holder where I can keep all the car cards separately and a couple of small clear folders with flaps to hold everything when doing an operations session. My order from Micro-Mark is supposed to be here tomorrow.

Tomorrow after lunch we are heading to Cocoa for Prototype Rails and will return Sunday so I will be gone probably until Monday.

BigE- I was thinking the one on the outside track might look good covering up that entire triangular area behind it.

Chet- Another great scene.

I hope everybody has a good night.

Here is one I really love, although it may not be realistic it is spiratual. Have a great night everybody!
God Bless Us, Everyone!

Back to the track, I'm planning a real classic 'bowl o noodles' to build this summer to show off at the next Holidays. When the riser kits arrive I'll be experimenting for a bit. The "final-final" is calling for not so much a mountain as three hills, big, med and small, in a 'wilderness' ("There be SQUATCH in them-thar hills!") semi-hiding a sort of river gorge along a large slope for the back wall. That's the idea anyways. The 'foreground' is going to be 'small town farm country' between two 'city-scapes', one at each end. That 'final' incarnation will probably commence in about a year, a LOT of planning and is going to go into THAT track pattern, I have to 'muck about' and PLAY with it for a while longer before I get TOO serious!

Good one, "the reason for the season". I love that style of painting, so much happening there.

Good afternoon.

Corey .... Must have been quite a bump to damage the bumper. The rear bumper on an Avalanche is very sturdy.
Louis .... Thanks for posting the Epiphany images.

I'm actually looking at an atlas at the moment. They have a C&O unit I'd love to have. Nickel silver wheels doesn't sound have a bad of an idea. Be the spark flying upgrade. All of my old bue boxes will fling sparks. Especially my U30C.

Justin, do you do DCC?
If so, I have a deal for you...
This is a Proto 2000 SW8, with DCC. It runs great, but does not have functioning lights:

I'll take $40 for it.
