Cold outside, i guess for most of you guys it would be considered warm. Departing Winslow on an H BARBEL1 18A. Going to be a long day. I have the chance to purchase 11 KCS southern belle hoppers for $25 each, i believe this is a really good price. Anybody know?

Depends on who made them. Some are more expensive, for some, that's about the going rate. At worst, it is a fair value.

I thought I'd give an update on my current disasters. In no particular order:
Our pooch is recovering well. Right now, I'm not her favorite family member, since I am the one that is shoving pills down her throat. She has been placed on a special bland diet. That means, a half a can of special food, divided by thirds, per day. No snacks for the next week. When she can have them again, she can have a single plain dog biscuit, once per day. We don't feed her table scraps, and only occasionally give her a "treat" of a piece of cooked broccoli or something similar. The vet said that's good, but not to give her anything like that for "a while". No word on how long "a while" is. The special food was about $10 for 3 cans, I'd have to check to make sure of the price.

I'm going to have to pay the bills with a credit card, instead of the cash I had raised. That adds to our long-term debt, which I was trying to avoid, especially since I may be getting a replacement for the truck. I'll find out more about that later today, after the banks open. My current loan is through my credit union, they may agree to loan me some more cash to get out of this. Last resort, the dealer will supply a tire at his cost, as needed, whenever the current truck requires one. The truck is the same now as it was two weeks ago, before I made this discovery. It's been relatively reliable, and has given no indication of this problem ,other than wearing out a tire in less than 10,000 miles--on the rear. There's no reason to think it will be any different now.

The train that was shipped to me has disappeared off the face of the Earth. It was last seen departing Shreveport Friday evening. By the time I get the box, it will have more miles on it than the real ones did before they were retired. That probably won't be too difficult, as the real ones were repair-intensive, and unreliable, at best. If they ever arrive, I plan to use the A-A pair to pull the 11 car PRR heavyweight passenger set I have, that was originally intended to be pulled by the MTH K4 that is now stored unserviceable.
For those interested, I was able to coax the K4 once around my layout, before it failed completely.

T minus 6 days and counting until Christmas.

The block casting is from 1972, the head castings are from 1971.
Doesn't mean that was when they were cast, but when the casting was made.

I should have put a sarcastic face on that one, I was having a dig at the advertisers rebuilt and new gaskets assurances.

A Pleasant Good Morning to All. 12° with partly cloudy skies, going up to balmy 36° later today. Back to the mid-50's tomorrow. Mass was extra long yesterday and then I spent a lot of time helping the wife wrap Christmas gifts. That along with a good nap killed most of the day!!! LOL To go along with all of the festivities, two of my brothers and myself all have birthdays coming up during the next two-week span. One is having a surprise "60" party Thursday night. Have to make a 80 mile round trip to Costco today for them to repair one of my hearing aids that copped out Saturday. Not too bad as it's the side that usually faces my wife...
Limited time in the train shed yesterday, but I did put some flex-track and turnouts out on the newly-built lower level to see how things might fit. It's a 16' span and I intend to have a few staging and storage tracks on it, plus maybe some low relief background industries to switch. One planned track will extend over the yet to be built workbench as a RIP track.
Thanks for the comments on the cardstock building, Bruce, Curt, Karl, (I think).
Ken - I did the chop the tree thing for 20+ years until my friend was forced to move off his rented property to make way for a giant car dealership. Nothing quite like the smell of a fresh-cut tree. By then, all but one of the kids had moved on anyway.
Sherrel - Best wishes on your up and coming surgery Thursday, and for your MIL's recovery. Wherever you celebrate Christmas, I am sure that all in attendance will understand both of your predicaments.
Ron - That's the Christmas spirit.
Chet - Several more great pictures. That first one must be an older one, as I know that you have been populating the layout recently.
Terry - Must be the same cold front that passed through here Saturday night...temperature dropped more than 50° in 9 hours! Good luck on all of the dilemmas. I fully understand the "long-term debt" thing, as I had three kids in college at the same time during the late 90's/early 00's, and had to live partially on "plastic" at the time. Two in private colleges and the third in graduate school. Good thing is that none of them ever moved back home!!!

Everybody have a great day. And an early Merry Christmas to all.

Willie

Good morning, everyone. A little late this morning - hope there's some coffee left.

6 degrees here in SW Missouri, will stay below freezing today. But the rest of the week looks better. A dusting of snow left from a weekend four-flaker (as my mother used to call them). Man, you guys sure do post!! I usually don't get on over the weekends, and it takes forever to catch up on Monday.

Not much progress on the benchwork. I stayed home one day to get over this cold - fine now. Had in-town and out-of-town family over for dinner on Saturday, watched some college football, etc. Yesterday I finished bracing the first section and screwed the top on, so it's ready to go. That first section is 4' X 6' and will be the trainyard.

Gotta run. Will lurk today.
Talk to ya later.
Johnny

4 lovely degrees out there.

LOL! Everybody bumpin bottom right now it seems! Injuries and money droughts all around!

Falling, FREEZING, broke, broken, stuck, sick, lost but NOT lonely! What a crew!

I'd like to throw a KRUGERAND in everybody's kettle and I would if I could. Stay strong guys, spring is on the way and next year is going to be a GOOD one! Most of us have been down before and we know there is no place to go but UP!

Good morning. 16 above to start the day. Clear here, but Interstate 90 is closed between Livingston, MT to Billings. Blizzard conditions, winds gusting to 85 mph.

Terry - Murphy must have moved next door to you. Hope you can get things straightened out.

Willie - All the photos were taken yesterday. Took a series of them.

Glad that we no longer go out and cut down a Christmas tree. We live right next to the Gallatin National Forest and when the kids were young we used to go and cut down a tree. Can't count how many times I have had to trudge through snow arm pit deep to cut down a tree. Now that the kids are out on their own and have their own families, we don't even bother putting up a tree.

Lots going on today. Better get to work.

Later.

Morning to all you "foot stompers" (trying to stay warm). It's going to be a super day out there. It's a balmy 46 headed to 69 today and 74 tomorrow - then we should settle back into out "normal" winter of 50-74 most of the time.

Chapter 3, I believe: Just found out over the weekend that daughter, Marine husband, TWO grandsons ages 1.5 and 2.5, and the daushund, Frankie will be arriving from N. CAR - landing just about the time I get out of surgery. IT HAS BEEN A LITTLE OVER A YEAR SINCE I HAVE SEEN THEM, AND IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A SURPRISE. They did not know of my scheduled surgery, or of the MIL sickness. JOY, JOY ... It's going to be a Griswold Christmas for sure.

BRUCE My father used to always say, "Keep looking up". Your post this morning reminded me of that - thanks.

WILLIE Around here for the next several days, I might be tempted to leave the hearing aid inoperable?

RON That train looks scary! H BARBEL1 18A What does it all mean?

Have a great Day All -- AND, TERRY, good wishes on yoour ills.

SAY, TERRY The puker is working well and seems much faster. Now -- just have to take care of this touchpad issue!
Sherrel, just for S&Gs, try holding down the "Fn" (function) key while you push the "F9" key, and see if that turns off the trackpad. If it does, all you would have to do is repeat the process to turn it back on.

Yes. Crude, but effective.

I just received notification my package, that seemed to be on The Great Circle Tour of the South, has resurfaced at the location where it went missing. It's 30 miles away, let's see how long before it gets here...

Just pulled this up from the Montana Dept of Transportation road camera in Livingston, MT. Not pretty. The interstate is still closed.

Afternoon All,

It's 84 F and humid here today. No MRR stuff today since the grand kids are here all day while their Mom has multiple medical appointments (routine). Afterwords we are all having supper here (hot dogs). Later MOH, daughter and grand kids are going to a outdoor showing of ELF. I just can't do it. I think that is one of the stupidest movies ever made!

Ron- That is awesome of you.

Chet- Nice scenes from your layout. I don't envy you your weather.

Matt- I hope everything ends up OK for you.

I hope everyone has a good night.

CHET - That photo reminds me of living in Silverton and driving home from the airport in Durango up hwy 550. There were nights when it was snowing that I did not see another vehicle the entire drive after leaving Hermosa about 10 miles north of Durango.
