Good evening. It's cloudy and 20. Freezing rain expected.
I am now in the midst of several new horror stories. Story number one: I found a screamin' deal on a pair of new BLI Centipedes at a sort-of local hobby shop I've been to a couple of times advertised on a Facebook sale group. I bought them, and he sent them to me early in the week. After sitting for several days in Greensboro, they have suddenly appeared in Shreveport, Louisiana. They are insured, with signature required, so I still have a chance of getting them someday.
Second one os more serious, and I'm not sure how it will play out. Most of you know I traded my F250 a few months ago, and got a well-used F150 in its place. One of the things I noticed when I bought it, was the rear tires were completely wiped out. Everybody, from me, to the people at the car dealership, to the tire place I got the replacements from, all thought the tires had been on the front, and had been rotated to the rear when they got worn. I got a new set of tires and alignment, and went on my merry way. Fast forward 10 months and 8000 miles, and I happened to crawl under the back of my truck, and glanced at the rear tires. Guess what? They were worn completely out, just like the set that was on the truck when I got it. It turned out the rear axle housing and frame of the truck were bent, and the cost of repairs will be about half what the truck is worth. Even though they are not legally obligated to do so, the car dealership where I got the truck is trying to figure out how to trade me out of this thing, and into something without the problems.
More news as it develops. Stay tuned.

Eric-im sorry you are sick. I hope you get better soon. Can i do anything for you? I would be willing to send you something from my collection to keep you occupied. How about some kits to build? PM me your address please.

I really do appreciate that offer! I think I probably shouldn't take you up on that offer. I would end up buying a whole bunch of stuff that I don't have here. X-acto knives and cutting accessories, sand papers, cement, etc.

You should have been here about a year ago when I was bored and out of money to spend on my own stuff. I was offering my buddies here to build kits for them for those that didn't have the time. I even offered New Guy to come up there to build mountains and do some scenery for him since he's not into doing any of that stuff. All he had to do was buy the bus ticket and feed and beer me.

I could send a care package! I know how it feels, i was in the hospital several years ago and going stir crazy! I really dont mind if you change your mind. I have xtra exactos, glue, etc.

Good evening. Waiting for the ice storm to arrive here in central MD. My 21yr-old daughter was supposed to drive home from her college in southeast OH tomorrow, looks like the weather has other plans. At least she's not in a dorm where they force everybody out by a certain date & time, she can stay in her apt an extra night if necessary.

Karl - best of luck to YOH on her real estate exam tomorrow, will include that intention in my prayers!

Terry - that positively sucks, no other way to describe it. I guess the one hopeful thing is that [based on what you said] the dealership where you got it is trying to help you out. At least they aren't saying "too bad, not our problem" like many scum shops do...

***
I'm fading into lala-land after taking my lunesta...really can't type anymore....goodnight yall!

Where is some links for that paper stock structures you all were posting about the other day. I never caught the initial posts where it all started. Probably in the hospital at the time.
I willing to give that a try! Here at Dad's he has a color inkjet printer so that might work better anyhow. (That reminds me to replace the color ink cartridge in it tonight.)

Terry, that's a nice idea about having someone to go to my place and send some stuff. I searched all over the place and never did find anyone in the area down there.

The engines I really miss not running are a couple of the ones I got from you like that Intermountain Kansas City Southern (what model was that? AC4400 something), the SantaFe FP45, another that has some great effects. I one REALLY want to run is that brand spankin' new Athearn Genesis SD70ACe in the BNSF orange and black. I bet I didn't have it much more than 2 weeks before all this crap really came down on me.
Because all of them are DCC I might have my DCC stuff to run them. And to disconnect all that - in an orderly way - I would just about demand that I be there if not do it myself. It's all diagrammed and documented and the wires are labelled but I wouldn't still want to do it myself none-the-less. I'm sure you all understand without further ado. ;) Besides that, who else would I trust???

Believe it or not, I am still physically quite capable to doing this. It's like I tell people sometimes "hey, it's just cancer. Ain't like I stepped on an IED and blow myself up or something stupid."
Dismantling the table decking is something I would definitely want/need help on.

Well, I'm starting to get a wee bit sleepy so I think I'll go lay down a little.
Thanks for being there for me guys! Means a lot right now!!!
E.

YES!! I just got called on a Q train and also accepted a notification that i was awarded an engineers bid on the Gallup sub! I should be driveing trains at least until Jan 1st! Talk to you guys tomorrow.

Here's a picture from steam's final days on NZ's govt railways (NZGR) of a line up of "Ja" 4-8-2 at Auckland's engine depot, with a lone "Jb". That classification came about when the original "J" class were updated. I was never so fortunate to see so many at one time gathered there, but the old corrugated iron shed in the background and a similar engine shed with a raised ventilation center gable, bring back memories when it was possible to wander around in there and take photos with a Kodak Box Brownie camera of all the interesting bits.
__1284_-21_zpszirwjeas.png

This is the "J" class in it's pre delivery primer and with the steamlining that was removed later in service because it made b,all difference to the speed and just made servicing more difficult. They were built for passenger service, had a recommended top speed of 70mph, but were known to reach 80mph over the flat lands of the Canterbury Province in the South Island when time was needed to be made up to connect with the interisland ferry between Picton (Sth Is' north east coast) and Wellington at the bottom of the Nth Is.

Evening fellow Rail Layers & Spike Drivers,
Hi Flo & Francine, Things seem busy down here at Jeffreys' Dinner. How about a nice warm bowl of Chili with onions and some Colby and Jack cheeze, that sounds good to me! Coffee of course.

It's a cold one tonight, a quick check of the enclosed back porch read 44 so it about 34 outside? Let me check Wounderground Weather to see what they say?

Good morning Everybody!
It’s 18 with 35% humidity here in southeast Baltimore.
I walked my wife to her car at 4am and watched her drive away until she was out of sight. Standing there on my porch in my shorts and t-shirt I was having second thoughts about not getting dressed before walking her out. I’m not worried about any one thinks of my bright white, skinny legs, but baby it’s getting cold outside!

Say Louis: That a tad chilly to be out in shorts it seems? The HO Loco is nice looking and the price seems right. Too bad I'm in an earlier time period, the little folks would never understand.

Good Morning All. 48° and overcast skies this morning. Strange because it was 36° when I hit the sack last night...warmed up overnight headed for 73 today. Low Saturday night is forecast to be 17°...quite a drop! Glad that I am not in Montana or Michigan right now. Saw some scenes of the cold weather in Washington DC yesterday on TV, very unusual to see certain politicians with their hands in their own pockets. Went grocery/beer shopping yesterday, and was pleased that both the check-out guy and the grocery bagger at Kroger said "Merry Christmas" instead of the politically-correct "Happy Holidays". Same with the Salvation Army folks in front of the store. Got our Christmas tree up, and the lights/decorations out of the attic...need to find someplace for them at ground level!
Once again I didn't spend a lot of time in the train shed due to other seasonal stuff. While running trains, I noted that it's been a while since I "dusted & cleaned" some railcars. Especially noticeable on black tankers after I touch them. So I cleaned about two dozen and replaced plastic wheels with metal ones on three of them while off the tracks. I do have to dust and remove cobwebs about every two years. More to come.
Speaking of Jeffery, Like others, I knew him on several other forums as well. He had even started his own forum "Rails of the World", which was still available but not updated until sometime earlier this year...now it no longer accepts my password.

David - Always add acid to water, never the reverse when you try to revive the battery.
Everybody have a great Friday and Merry Christmas.

Willie

Say Willie: Thanks for your concern and pertinent reminder advice. I appreciate it as I was going to have to have to look it up but alas, I took the battery down to the NAPA store to see if could be possibly be charged and my friend their said it was dead and brought up a new one for me so I'm fixed for now. I also got a large container of Green slime to put in the tires to seal up leaks as it seems most of the tires have a slow leak.

I like your comment on the Politicians, very fitting but maybe soon to change? I'm also glad to hear that individuals are again starting to wish everyone a Merry Christmas as it should be to my thinking.
Thanks for your the Christmas wish too and too you as well !!

Hey, CA DAVID!
Been trying to call you to wish you a HAPPY BIRTHDAY! i GUESS THAT YOU ARE OUT ON THE TOWN CELEBRATING!

Say Sherrel: sorry that you couldn't get through to my Cell Phone. No, I haven't been anywhere, it's due to my Cellular provider not have the current IME

Sherrel-i like the commie comment! Yes you guys need the rain. I go to Kernville everyother year gold prospecting and that Kern river was at a trickle last time i was there.

Garry-thanks i just woke up and didnt get any cookies!

Chet-if you're famiar with the City of Canyon Diablo and its Sheriffs (that didnt last too long) a coworker that i worked with a few months ago said him and his wife look for artifacts around that area. He said his wife found an old Sheriffs badge. Just think if that badge could be authinticated!

Willie-thanks, Mina made it through the night, but i dont believe she is going to be with us much longer. SUCKS, she has been the best dog!

Thanks everyone who told me a little about Jeff, i wish i could have met him.

Im showing to get called around 2300 on a Z train to head back home. The only problem is there is a high wind advisory on the Clovis sub (Winds can reach over 100mph through the canyon just East of Belen, it has blown several trains over this last year) and the lineup may fall several hours. BUMMER!

Have a good one everyone!

RON

Ron:Good luck riding the Z train back home, 100+mph winds through the canyon the train goes through doesn't sound very good. I hope it doesn't affect you!

Sorry to hear about your dog Mina, they do become part of the family. Dog is God spelled backwards! My best wishes to you and your wife and Mina's health.

Afternoon All,

Ran downtown earlier and stopped at the LHS. They did have the fencing I wanted from Tichy, but not their 40 ft flat car kit. With the fencing I finished up the station project and made the sign for the display also.

I think my next quick project is that I'm going to add 2 warning horns on poles similar to what the Pennsy had on the "slide" for excessive speed on the section of my layout I have named Running Bear Pass in honor of Jeff.

Karl- Good luck to your wife on her exam.

NG- Nice looking B&O car. Is it metal? It looks like it to me in the picture.

Louis- Nice looking loco. Is it one of yours?

Milw113- Everybody needs an obsession...I mean hobby!

Garry- It's a small world.

20161216_143303_zpsmiw58tew.jpg

I hope everybody stays warm and has a good night.

Say Curt: That's a cute idea of having the little bobber caboose on display, don't you run it?

Here is a link to a nice story.

A CN freight train conductor saved the life of a cat that climbed onto a locomotive and road in frigid weather for a long distance under the train.

https://gma.yahoo.com/train-conduct...rozen-ice-181548956--abc-news-topstories.html

Say Garry: That does sound like an interesting story alright. Thanks for posting it.

RON - Stillstruggling with a couple of puker issues, so will be posting a few short vibes to see if I am making any headway.
Very sorry to hear of your doggy's problems. I've lost 3 over the last 13 years (wow, how time has slipped by) and it never gets easier- and you never forget them. Anyway, just sitting here on the couch now with one laying next to me and the other laying with his head on my foot - I was just thinking how sad I am going to be when I lose this baby. Then, with all the issues I have had lately, I am beginning to just hope that I can outlast her. The little one will take up with anyone, but this one certainly is my shadow and She will be lost without me.

Sherrel: As I mentioned to Ron, we sure do get attached to our dogs or gods alright, yours looks like she is keeping a close watch on you.

I just landed my train here in Belen Nm. 58 degrees out at 0430, that was a rough nite, im glad we got here fast. Oh and David, Happy Belated Birthday! Now off to sleep!

Say Ron: Thanks for the Birthday wish, it's appreciated.

13 degrees in King George, VA. Dang, that's cold. Takes my enthusiasm to ride the Harley and puts it in the pickup truck.

Hi D&J: Yeah, 13* is a tad too cold to be out riding your Harley if it isn't necessary. The least little bit of water is almost instant ice.

Too late !.... They were very good cookies !....... Burp !

Say Garry: I was hoping you wouldn't be so quick gobbling them down, I wanted a few too!

I wasn't posting because I was plowing out my driveway. Now the dogs have a place to go out and pee. Down to Minus 2 degrees now. Looks like it is all downhill from here.

Say Chet: The weather is getting downright cold here but not as cold as your location, but due to all the moisture in the air here it sure feels cold!!

Also, I forgot to wish you and your wife a belated Congratulation on your 45th. Wedding Anniversary!

The wintry event here in King George, VA isn't all that they said it would be.
I'm going to the wreath laying ceremony at the Quantico cemetery this morning.

Dang, made it to Fredericksburg to meet some guys for b'fast. Several incidents along the 20 miles. Jack knifed truck, flipped vehicle, couple in the ditch. Kinda slick. Of course, the other guys didn't show up.

Good morning everyone. Cold here in SC this morning but the freezing precipitation went north of us so its just Brrrr outside and not Brrrr slip BOOM! My yard slopes down towards the back so freezing rain means we ain't getting out of the driveway.

Brrr, slip, boom here. Staying inside today, SWMBO'S test cancelled, ,BBL

Good morning. Still cloudy, still 28 or so. Zero precipitation, of any kind, frozen or not.

As for the truck issue, I m sure the dealership can do something, none of us are sure, though, if it's something we can afford. The F&I manager is going to call some banks on Monday, and see if he can get an extended term, so our monthly payments can stay affordable for us.

Good Morning All. 55° and mostly cloudy here this morning, going up to 67° this afternoon. At this time tomorrow it's supposed to be 17°...quite a drop in 12 hours! Back to the mid-50's by Tuesday through Christmas day at least. Must be global-warming...not nearly as cold as many of you others though. At least no precipitation. No new cookies today. After all the talk from Chet and Karl last week regarding Prime Rib, I slow-roasted one for supper last night. Wife had to take it off the table so we could have leftovers for sandwiches etc. It's not really likely that I could eat all 8 lbs anyway! I discovered a couple of years ago, how to reheat it without cooking it any more. Seal slices in a ziplock bag with as much air removed as you can, and immerse them in a large pot of 120° water (use a cooking thermometer) for about five minutes and you have perfectly warmed medium rare meat without cooking it any further. Foil wrapped in the oven or microwaved always cooks it further. The bag will float if you don't weight it down.
Again, not much activity in the train shed yesterday. Ran trains and dusted some more cars. Fixed loose parts and added a couple of missing coupler springs (that's why they were uncoupling!!!) while I was at it. Ran out of metal replacement wheels though. Found a couple of cars that still had the dreaded McHenry plastic couplers on them which got replaced with KD #148's.

Terry - Thanks for the info on Jeffery's website. I didn't post much on it or any others when I was still working because of time constraints, but I did read and keep up. I would go back occasionally when I needed some info, but like I said and you confirmed, it went away earlier this year. It never really had a chance to take off due to Jeffery's passing. On another subject, that dark cloud seems to be hovering over you too long. At least the dealer is willing to work with you.
Curt - Nice scene especially with the caboose on display.
Eric - I only remember a few links for the freebie structures. Here are a couple: http://www.modelbuildings.org/free.html
http://scalescenes.com/
http://clevermodels.squarespace.com/free-downloads-01/

Another place to look is Google, look for free cardstock buildings.
The ones that I got from the Illinois Historical Society are no longer available, but send me a PM with your E-Mail address and I will send a couple of PDF's to you. I print mine on 65# paper, but they can be printed on regular paper and glued to cereal boxes for strength. Even with the 65# paper, I brace mine with leftover Popsicle sticks that my kids bought years ago for school projects. Tools needed are scissors, Exacto knife, steel ruler and glue. I use Aleenes Tacky Glue but Elmer's would also work.

Everybody have a great day.

Willie

Good morning ...

Willie..... Any cookies, today ?........ Yum...... Yesterday's were delicious. ...... LOL .... I recall the paper historical Illinois buildings. I did not know they were discontinued.

Eric ... I agree with others it would be good for you to assemble models when you feel up to it..... Let us know what supplies (glue, etc you need) ... Your friends here will gladly get what you need to you. Ron already kindly offered to send a kit. ... I recall when I was recovering from injuries caused by a drunk driver, I worked on building kits for my model railroad. That was over 25 years ago, and I could not work for a year following that car accident. To me working on model railroad stuff was much better than TV.

.....
Weather permitting we are about to leave on a 10 day trip for Christmas family festivities. It will include Cincinnati, Detroit, and Grand Rapids before returning home here in western KY. ... I'll be checking in a few times via cell phone if aI get a chance.

Merry Christmas everybody.

Good Morning Everyone;

The bad news is that it's -31°C (-24°F) here this morning.

The good news is that my wife and I became first time grandparents today. Our oldest daughter had a 6lb 7oz baby girl, Ada Mae, or Addy for short at 1:30 this AM. Mother and daughter are doing fine, and we are off to visit them in the hospital shortly. Then we get to go through it all again in about 3 months, when our younger daughter is due!

Have a great day everyone!
