Afternoon All,

Well different day, let's try this again. I got the signal I was working on mounted and hooked up. I got the bottom LED in the last signal glued in and letting it sit overnight. I also prepped the other 2 LED's for mounting tomorrow. I also ran my K4s for awhile today since it has been sitting under the coaling tower for months.

I decided I am going to go with the SPST toggles vice the rheostats suggested by CA Dave. It came down to money. The rheostats are significantly more expensive for multiple signals. I asked Santa for SPST toggles along with Details West battery boxes for additional detail.

Sherrel- I modeled my signals on a prototype signal that had the top 2 lights removed and round metal plates welded on.

Iron Horseman- Thank you for the info. I did try but it only saved 1 line for some reason. I have used this procedure before with great results but not yesterday.

Karl- There is never a convenient time for our vehicles or devices to fail. I definitely saw my share of those with Napoleon complexes in the military. Some people have no business being in charge of others.

Louis- Congratulations to your wife. Several years ago a friend from work became a naturalized citizen. A whole group from the FD went to see the ceremony.

Ray- Always a funny decoration. How long is the siding in the picture you showed us a day or two ago?

Justin- Nice job on the 2 houses. Interesting video. Those guys were lucky it wasn't a fast moving train.

Here is the signal I mounted today. Sorry for the crappy picture. I think the top right LED backed out of the hole and I didn't realize it before gluing the back on. It is what it is.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Everyone - Went to HD during my lunch hour to pick up some more lumber for the benchwork. I'm using a very nice sanded (both sides) plywood, but since I only have an SUV, I have them cut it for me and it fits in the vehicle. Then went to get some 1X4s and it was all crap! Two other guys and I were looking through what they had left and it's all bad - we threw every board back on the pile. They need to get a new shipment in like NOW. (The other DIY store doesn't have nearly as good a selection of wood, so I don't go there much.) So I've got the bench tops but no pine boards to build the frames or brace the legs. I guess for the next few days I'll work on ripping 2X4s into 2X2s for more legs, and work on moving the legs back 6 or 7 inches.

Chet - I understand your Christmas thinking. For me, the child in me likes the lights, the tree, the smells of real wreaths; the adult in me likes buying gifts for others, having the kids and grandkids over, watching people unwrap gifts, and the Christmas dinner my wife makes.

Ray - I love your minimalist decorating approach.

Justin - those camp cabins are looking nice - will look forward to seeing the scenery around them completed. Anybody get fired over that train wreck?

Curt - the signals are just looking better and better. Nice job.

That's probably it for today.
See you for coffee in the morning.
Johnny

Johnny - I enjoy all of the Christmas functions. The family and friends, the food, and the celebration of Christmas, but being that there is just my wife, myself and two small dogs at home, I just can't see decorating the house up. We used to do that when our kids were small. Going up into the National Forest eah year, trudging through waist deep snow and cutting down a Christmas tree, lights all over the place and stepping on Legos in your bare feet. We visit a lot of family and friends over the holidays and can enjoy their decorations, but it sure is nice to go home and not worry about putting all of the decorations away for another year.

Need to use a wheel gauge on the trucks too.
Slow day at work today. Usually this time of year, things slow down in defense contracting.
I'm tryin to get motivated to go downstairs and fire up the empire and run trains for a bit.
I ordered an MTH DCC ready C44-9W in NS paint from Modeltrainstuff. Just need that occasional foreign power to mix in with the UP units.

Chet - No, I understand completely. Right now, our situation is that we have our kids and their families all here in Springfield, including two granddaughters - and one or both families will come over Christmas eve and spend the night here. So I think for the next number of years we're going to go the whole 9 yards, putting up some lights, putting up a tree, decorating, cooking, making my annual coffee cake for Christmas breakfast, buying all kinds of Christmas goodies, and just making the place extra festive for us and the kids.
God bless.
Johnny

.
Hi Curt!

Siding is very short. It will only hold 2 40' cars without fouling the mainline, but that should be enough space as this is a small countryside town (actually is a little berg called Milo Mills South of here on Keuka Creek which drains Keuka Lake into Seneca Lake. There was a spur of the NYC that operated until Agnes took it out in 1982 that went from Dresden, NY over to Penn Yan and serviced a whole lot of industries that once existed on the creek.

There will be a Scratch Built Freight Station at that siding. The building will be one that is found in Naples, NY on what was a spur from Geneva, NY to Naples, NY on the LV RR. I have a blueprint diagram of the Building found in a book by Harold Russell that was sold back when by the local division of the NMRA as a fund raiser.

Did some work on the empire tonight.
Had a couple, no, three trains running while I was working.
I could do that for hours, but I wanted to watch NCIS and eat some pumpkin pie.

How about that?!?! It's nearly unanimous, the congratulations to my wife will warm her heart. I will tell her in the morning, thank you Everyone! :)

She has already gone to bed because she will be up at 3am for work. She is on salary, but she always goes the extra mile. It has not yet settled in that she is a US citizen, she still thinks she is a hard working immigrant. I doubt she will ever change. I am so proud of her.

From Lionel's Facebook page; A reunion of sorts was held recently at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania when our GG1 prototype sample met up with its inspiration, the real 4800, in Strasburg. This locomotive proved the value of the design and paved the way for 138 production models on the Standard Railroad of the World. Lionel’s Vision Line GG1 models are also now completing production and will be in flight to our warehouse this week for delivery to our retailers in December. (Photo by Dave Olson)

I was always driven by pride and a competitive spirit. I once asked my wife what motivates her great work ethic, she said "It's easy in this country, you actually get paid for all you do"

Curt: Seriously, I thought all of those type worked for the Penn Central .

Tell her congrats from Absurdistan too Louis!! I hope that when I make that "delivery" , that she's there! I want to meet the saint that puts up with ya! ;) (She deserves a medal for that alone!)

KEN -- Was NCIS any good tonight? I still watch it, but have lost some interest since Ziva and Tony moved on.
