Today is judgement day for the guy who embezzled our club's treasury.
I've been summoned to court to testify against him. Pretty much an open and shut case. I provided a video of a Zoom call where he admitted to several of us that he did it. Also have the 17 withdrawal slips that he submitted to the bank teller.
He was our friend, a trusted member of the club who was voted to treasurer several times over the years and he took advantage of that. He violated several of our by-laws in the process. Over a year prior to the theft, he brought a plan before the club to invest our savings in a BitCoin account. I wasn't an officer then, but I told him he couldn't do that because the account was federally insured in accordance with our by-laws. After the discussion, he was told, no. I year later he began withdrawing money from out account and passing it to his broker who was actually a scammer. He reported to the club that his computer had a virus, and he couldn't provide a treasurer's report from June of last year through November. I had run from the office of V.P. and finally pressed him into explaining the problem in November. He then told us his cell phone had been hacked and someone stole the money. Being pressed some more about it and after checking with the bank, he confessed that he had taken the money out to invest in the BitCoin. The president at the time was handling the matter but didn't take him off the bank account until February. I thought he did that back in December after our internal investigation. I asked the president to resign over that, so after a few days he did. I went after the treasurer and had him explain it all in a recorded Zoom call to a few of us. Virginia is a one-party consent for recording phone or Zoom calls. I gave him 5 days to pay us back. He didn't do it so I reported the theft and here we are today.
He'll prolly only get probation for a period of time and a court fine because of no prior issues like this. He quit the club at my recommendation. His wife eventually found out about it and paid us back the next day out of their savings. Had to have been a rough night in his house that night.

Good Morning All!

68F @ 50% clear and hot again. No relief in sight. Near record high again today; 103F yesterday.

Maria drug me to a local house yesterday as she found a dish set she wants ( Facebook post ). Dish set? Said I, how many dish sets do you need? She gave me 'the look' which probably meant 'How many steam engines do you have? Well, I digress. With further questioning and investigation I found out:
Set is Franciscan with most from California, some from Maryland and none from England. California sets are from 1935 to 1960, Maryland from 1961 to 2000, England 2000 up.

She told me she has been looking for this set for years. Could always find them but they were/are pricey. 20 years ago, the California sets were going for upward of $400. Did some Craiglist searching and those now are going upwards of $1000 in the populated areas. Then she told me that this specific set became popular by Jackie Kennedy when she used them in the Whitehouse. Hmmm. We ended up with over 100 pieces - a few are chipped but the rest are like new. Now I have stuff to get her for Birthday and Christmas. Do we really need a $100 gravy boat? How about $80 Salt/Pepper sets? Ya, works for Birthday and Christmas.

Paid $125 and asked the seller 'Are you sure' thrice. She was down sizing her Mother from 4000 square feet to 900 and since this is Libby, she knew she was really cheap, but they had to go.

Maria told her 'They will be loved'. She beamed all the way home and while unpacking. Gessh, and I thought I was like a little kid when getting deals on stuff.

There are also those st00pid tea cups you can't get your fingers in, but she will stash them somewhere for now.

I did come away with a deep fat fryer @ $20, looked brand new; and a Targus P60T tripod another $20. Too bad there was no train stuff!

The septic hole is almost done, so now we get to go to Home Depot in Ponderay for some PVC pipe; can't get what I want here. So lunch it is there today or tomorra and will get what I need.

When you work on hot wires, you are entirely cautious because you know what you're dealing with...when you believe the breaker is pulled and suddenly things go Pow! it's real scary. Ask me how I know. ;)

I always trace the first then make sure it's dead with a test light after opening the breaker...Since people take short cuts, one cannot be too careful.
It was a wrongly wired 3 way switch and at the time I didn’t have a meter to check for conductivity. I do now but it’s for the 14 volts on the layout!

Good Morning All. Cloudy and 71°. Porch is wet, but nothing in the rain gauge. No rain at the Weather Underground station around the corner either. It is raining heavily about 15 miles both north and east of here, but it looks like it missed me. I did get 0.2" yesterday around 11:00, but all that did was settle the dust. More could be on the way later this morning.

The usual around here yesterday and probably again today, cut firewood and cool off in the pool; rinse and repeat! No known household chores today since I did 3 loads of laundry and a load of dishes over the weekend.

I plucked out a small project from the pending list out in the train shed yesterday. I have a Walther's ADM grain elevator that I built many years ago. While it is a relatively good kit (except the instructions), it lacked safety railings which were used on structures like this even before OSHA.

I have some railings in a fence kit (manufacturer unknown), so I went to work.

The ladder came from a Walther's stairway and ladder kit. Now my little people can work in safety and also get on the upper roof if needed. I'll be looking around to see if I can find any appropriate figures for here.

Hughie - Absolutely hate it when those 30 minute jobs take 5-6 hours. Kinda spoils the whole day.
Guy - Love the trail cam pictures. Waiting on the bears.
Mac - Really nice clean Susquehanna equipment. Is all their stuff this clean or is this the only lash-up like this?
Patrick - I'm sure that you are very glad to get the dishwasher replaced so quickly.
Tom O - I don't mind the electrical, in my own house! I examined every bit of it when I was much younger and made all additions myself, so I am confident that all is well. A circuit tester is one of the first tools that I bought when I started living in (cheap) rent houses in the mid-70's.
John - I often wonder about the rrpicturesarchive site myself. It does tend to be real slow at times.
Ken - Yes, he will probably get probation, but the fact that his wife paid the club back should mean a lot. Too bad that he was scammed because in retrospect, that should have been a good investment. Too bad that the club had to deal with this.
Todd - We have great-aunt's china as well as a set from my mother; neither has ever been used in our house. And the stuff we got as a wedding gift has only been used 2-3 times at most.

Everyone have a good Monday.

Nice job on the railings.

Good morning from Wisconsin. It’s 70 now going to 80 (again) for the 4th day in a row. Around 7 last night I could hear the rumbling of the thunder. I had not 15 minutes prior looked at the forecast as the sky’s were clouding up and it looked like rain was coming. The forecast for the hour and the rest of the evening said cooler but dry. After a good dumping of rain and after it stopped at 9 I went out and checked the collection beaker. Just under 1.5”. How can the NWS and local meteorologists be so consistently wrong.

I will drive the son to the airport in a couple hours. He is thinking he wants to sell his flying charter business but keep one of the planes for himself. If he sold all the planes he’d be fine but keeping one he says is really not affordable. He has his 2 engine prop job but he said he’s spoiled by flying the jets. When I asked what he was going to do he said he’ll figure it out. He’s a bit on the sad side right now. His girlfriend, a lot more serious than we thought, is moving to Boston and couldn’t believe he wouldn’t drop everything and move with her! He’ll tell me more someday! All his other businesses and interests are in the Austin area.

I really did not accomplish anywhere near what I wanted in the train room yesterday. Took a last minute trip out for lunch with a neighbor who said she just needed to get out. I dropped my 4 dry/bin structure yesterday and it has some fixable damage but that spoiled the rest of my time in the train room.

Enjoy your day

My worst was cutting a 14g Romex wire that bypassed the breaker panel. Surprise! And I was using a pair of cutters that didn't have any insulation at all. I got thrown back, the cutting edge of the cutters melted, and the whole house went down. I burned my hand. As a result, I ended up hiring an electrician to install a new service with plenty of space for expansion.
I bought a meter to check conductivity, and new wire tools with insulated handles. I also brought home a pair of gloves like used on PRR electrics.
Nothing like closing the barn door after the horses left.

Greetings from the Jersey Shore! Cloudy and humid today, with a predicted high of 86°. Dropped to 65° over night. 60% probability of some rain today. The same forecast applies through Thursday with some variation on the rain probability. Haven't had any measurable rain since the 16th.

As Willie mentioned, a legitimate investment in Bit coin would have been a good investment. I'm not into bit coin....I'm inclined to follow Jamie Diamond on Bit Coin. (That's why I'll never get rich)! Seriously Ken, what was that guy thinking? Good thing you and some other members were paying attention.

Today's event is to deliver a new TV to the MIL at the Assisted Living Facility. Old TV was about 10 years old or older, and she claims she never watches it. Took her a full 7 days to contact the wife and let her know she needed a TV. Once she called she expected a new oe installed that afternoon. We ordered one from Walmart.Com and they delivered it here yesterday. We will take it over later on... Not looking forward to this, she has a way of getting under my skin...as do the employees of this facility.

Morning all,

A little busy this morning, but finally caught up.

Last day in the arm sling...I am ready. I'll still have weight and movement restrictions for a while, but the sling gets hot, especially when I go outside.

Chad: Been years since I last saw either the PDP-11 or any of the Commadore machines. One of my first jobs was repairing the PDP-11 machines.

Willie: You have no idea how glad I was to get that in and installed.

To be honest i didn't think of it until you've mentioned it. But yes, as far as i can remember, i've never seen cruddy looking Susquehanna unit.

Good afternoon all. The rain has stopped. The temperature is a little cooler.
Afternoon tea please. Flo.

Been having a clear out of old household items we no longer required.

I see Mrs ctclibby is joining 'the elite'. (Well she might be if she uses those tea cups.) Delicate hands required. No putting in the dishwasher, mind. Hand wash only, (even if they say dishwasher proof). Dishwashers rub the pattern off.

The funniest thing about those dishes is... it's you, not me😆. I've got the taste of that nonsense when i was married, yepper, IKEA furniture, so had to be IKEA dishes. IKEA furniture had to go, and so did the dishes. I'm not doing that again🤣
