You're generous. I would have closed the account and refused to pay their fee. Let them sit on it, It's not your fault and not worth their time or money to pursuit,

I did get a statement on my "etrade" account (now owned by morgan stanley I think) that was set up for our company's stock purchase program. When the company got bought the new company had a different brokerage handling employee stock programs so the etrade one just sat empty. Actually it has like a 1 cent balance since after I cleared out anything they added a penny in interest.

I may call them and tell them to close it and keep the penny but I'm not paying the $2 fee for a "statement" I didn't request. Or I may let it sit and let them figure it out.
The problem would be if I didn’t pay it, next month there would be a $30 late fee, then 30% interest on that, then a late fee the following month. Once the balance gets over $100, it makes it worthwhile to pursue collections—and of course the ding on my credit score.

is there also beer in this coffee shop?
Yes, all forms!

Here is the official license..:D

Yes, the statement charges are fees for them sending me a paper bill.
Two of them are $1.99 each statement, the other is $5.99 per statement.
The $5.99 is obviously a revenue source. They sent me a statement showing a $0.00 balance, then sent me a bill for $5.99 to send me a statement showing I had a zero balance. I paid them their $5.99, and closed my account.

Many years ago Dawn & I had money in the Midland Bank (now taken over by another). There was £8.49p in the account. They sent a letter to tell us so and charged £25.00 for the privilege.. Now we were overdrawn. Another letter arrived to say so at £25.00. From being in credit, two letters we were £41.51 in debt. We contacted the banking ombudsman who said we were in arrears and had to pay. Meanwhile another letter arrived. Yes another £25.00 added to the arrears.
We had to pay the money. On closing the account the Bank Manager asked 'Why we were doing so?'

The practice of sending such letters has now being stopped.

Closing the account could affect your score too!

Any reason you prefer a paper statement over electronic?
Other than "we emailed you the bill, it's not our fault you never got it"?
They already email the statement, sometimes the email never makes it to me. Sometimes the paper statement never makes it to me.
Plus, I use a very old-fashioned way of keeping track of my bills. When I get a paper bill, it goes in the "to be paid" slot. When I pay it, it goes in the "paid" slot. When the payment clears, the paper statement goes in the trash.

Good Morning All. Mostly clear, or partly cloudy depending on how you look at it, and 71° here on the plains of North Central Texas. Cooler weather continues with the high today, like yesterday, in the low-90's. Even lower beginning Sunday if the weather geeks are to be believed, with scattered thunderstorms possible at the beginning of the week. Not our usual July weather. The pool has cooled off to 85° due to the cloudiness this week.

Yesterday's grocery trek went well, but it does seem that prices did make another jump in the last 2-3 weeks. It seems that our local Kroger has gotten the message from customers and now has 2-3 manned checkout lanes open all of the time once again. Baggers seem to be absent though. It's OK because I don't always mind bagging my own groceries, as I understand the concept of putting cold stuff with cold stuff for the trip home in the cooler. While I pat Kroger on the back for hiring people with mental and physical deficiencies, they really are at the bottom of the labor pool. Even after explaining the concept, I still get bread in the same bag as sour cream. Gasoline prices about town haven't moved much in the last two months, staying between $3.05 and $3.19/gal at most places.

Task of the day today is to gather up and stack firewood. I have piles in 3 different places of variably seasoned wood that need to be stacked in their respective storage racks. I might mow in the "back 40" if I'm feeling real energetic, but there is no pressing need to yet. It ain't growing any more until the next rain. Depending on the time and how warm it gets, I may also cut up some more trees.

Out in the train shed yesterday, it was work on infrastructure and do some re-boxing of model railroad magazines. The boxes got wet when the roof disappeared during the tornado, some of the mags on the bottom are damaged. In reality, I've actually just made it easier to get them all to the recycle center since I haven't used any of them in years. I intend to add some more shelving under the layout within the next few weeks, and started yesterday by reorganizing some minor wiring issues in the way. Then I remembered that I am 18 days overdue with the start of the quarterly layout cleanup. It's time for segment 3 on the lower level. While I eyeballed things, I didn't start yet.
None of yesterday's layout work is worthy of a picture, so I will visit the archive again. Once again, I will highlight a layout that I went to on a home layout tour associated with the semi-annual train show in Plano TX.

Tom O - I wouldn't worry about the modeling mojo yet. I find that it always returns, in my case within 3-4 days.
Terry - We haven't seen any "statement charges" on any statements or bills yet. But it may be hidden in the multi-multi page phone bill somewhere.

Today is the 77th birthday of Brian May, guitarist for Queen. I didn't realize that he was older than me.

Everyone have a great Friday. It may be payday for some.

Willie-

Are those lights above LEDs or fluorescent tubes? Curious...I imagine you could really save if they're LEDs and cut down on heat too from the ballast....

James - Those lights are above a club layout, not mine. So I do not know but I suspect that they are old fashioned florescent tubes. The ones in my train shed are florescents, but here in this part of Texas, the extra heat is hardly noticeable when it's 99° outside. All of my shorter lights under the upper level are LED's.

Two can play at this:

I'd call up and tell them I didn't ask for a statement with a price on it -- it was not approved -- and I'm not paying. Send it to them official certified mail. And if they add a late fee etc I'd send them a bill for the amount and if they don't pay the bill file a claim in small claims court for the total amount plus your court costs. They won't show and you'll get a judgement against them.

And with a paper trail you can fight the ding on the credit score as well.

I know this is not worth it in time nor potential money but these sorts of things piss me off and they need to be made to hurt and feel pain so they stop doing such stupid things.

They pointed to page three, paragraph 12, line 6 of the Terms of Service they sent me.

I wouldn't have paid it. I'm not in the UK but I'd have not paid it and in fact notified them of some bogus charge that they incurred with you and force them to have to pay you. Send them certified letters with your charge (like receiving unwanted mail -- 25 pound charge) andwhen they don't pay send them another one with a 25 pound late fee etc). These sorts of things piss me off and when I get pissed off enough I end up fighting them -- often with similar tactics to what they are trying. You never agreed to receive letters at 25 pound per so they can hardly hold you accountable.

Yes but did they have your signature or agreement to these terms? Or proof you'd received them?

this is where letters to your state's AG are in order with CC of the letters to your local media consumer affairs reporter etc.
This is a case of choosing my battles. And after all the crap I've dealt with over the last 5 years of so, simply closing my account and telling them to kiss my dupa was less stress for me.
