Good morning gang from the land of pleasant living!

66° and sunny, with a high of 85° predicted, 74% humidity but a light 6 mph breeze from the northeast feels great!

Sitting here at work with my coffee and a Devil's food donut with chocolate icing (death by chocolate) and my coffee, waiting for pandemonium to begin, in other words, a normal work day.

Little red truck is dead in the driveway, fuel pump died. Parts arrived from Rock Auto yesterday. It amazes me that I can get GM parts through them cheaper than I can through work! I was going to fix it at home, but the garage is a mess again. I do have the option of a co-workers car trailer being available to I can bring it to the shop. That may happen next week.

Donut is now done, I'll take my coffee and find a booth to hang in.

Good morning from home. I will drive the 1.5 hours to the golf course. Seems the hotel I was going to stay at last night said my reservation was for tonight, Sat and Sunday. It wasn’t that way on my confirmation so they blamed the computer system. Still they had no room. Really it was not that bad as it is an easy drive.

Got home to a couple brand new diesels on the desk and got to test them out.

Had a great time on the course yesterday in wonderful sunny weather. The guessers are saying more of the same today.

Enjoy the day

Good Morning All!

64F @ 55% and clear. Lot cooler today, yesterday was 75F @0500. Supposed to get to 106F on Sunday - can't wait for that.

The Micro$oft thing got Maria Wednesday. Was on the SSI site for a friend to get his account info and boom! When she clicked the Office 360 link, something filled Firefox's screen with a bunch of stuff and a couple of 'cmd' windows of which it looked like stuff was getting deleted. Widget had a couple of buttons for 'unlocking' your machine after paying. Could not do anything with Firefox, so I killed the process. Since the machine did not look to be compromised as far as I could tell, copied the doc's and pix's to the Buffalo. Then did a reboot while gritting my teeth and closing one eye. Came up ok so far and Windows Defender is not complaining. Went into the Buffalo and viewed the folders just copied. No .exe, .msi, .cmd, or .com on the ends of anything so I still do not have a clue what actually happened. Can monitor the network at the firewall, nothing looks suspicious. Will watch for a few days on and off.

The Local Blacksmith passed, so I adopted his dog.
As soon as we got home, she made a bolt for the door.

The entry gates at work operate via MS cloud. It took some creativity to get them open so we could get to work. Then we couldn't clock in, then we can't use our porter command request system for stock movements. If it isn't where it needs to be, it's not going to get there any time soon.

Good Morning All. Mostly clear, or partly cloudy depending on how you look at it, and 71° here on the plains of North Central Texas. Cooler weather continues with the high today, like yesterday, in the low-90's. Even lower beginning Sunday if the weather geeks are to be believed, with scattered thunderstorms possible at the beginning of the week. Not our usual July weather. The pool has cooled off to 85° due to the cloudiness this week.

Yesterday's grocery trek went well, but it does seem that prices did make another jump in the last 2-3 weeks. It seems that our local Kroger has gotten the message from customers and now has 2-3 manned checkout lanes open all of the time once again. Baggers seem to be absent though. It's OK because I don't always mind bagging my own groceries, as I understand the concept of putting cold stuff with cold stuff for the trip home in the cooler. While I pat Kroger on the back for hiring people with mental and physical deficiencies, they really are at the bottom of the labor pool. Even after explaining the concept, I still get bread in the same bag as sour cream. Gasoline prices about town haven't moved much in the last two months, staying between $3.05 and $3.19/gal at most places.

Task of the day today is to gather up and stack firewood. I have piles in 3 different places of variably seasoned wood that need to be stacked in their respective storage racks. I might mow in the "back 40" if I'm feeling real energetic, but there is no pressing need to yet. It ain't growing any more until the next rain. Depending on the time and how warm it gets, I may also cut up some more trees.

Out in the train shed yesterday, it was work on infrastructure and do some re-boxing of model railroad magazines. The boxes got wet when the roof disappeared during the tornado, some of the mags on the bottom are damaged. In reality, I've actually just made it easier to get them all to the recycle center since I haven't used any of them in years. I intend to add some more shelving under the layout within the next few weeks, and started yesterday by reorganizing some minor wiring issues in the way. Then I remembered that I am 18 days overdue with the start of the quarterly layout cleanup. It's time for segment 3 on the lower level. While I eyeballed things, I didn't start yet.
None of yesterday's layout work is worthy of a picture, so I will visit the archive again. Once again, I will highlight a layout that I went to on a home layout tour associated with the semi-annual train show in Plano TX.

Tom O - I wouldn't worry about the modeling mojo yet. I find that it always returns, in my case within 3-4 days.
Terry - We haven't seen any "statement charges" on any statements or bills yet. But it may be hidden in the multi-multi page phone bill somewhere.

Today is the 77th birthday of Brian May, guitarist for Queen. I didn't realize that he was older than me.

Everyone have a great Friday. It may be payday for some.

Morning all,

The IT outage only affects Microsoft servers where companies use an anti intrusion software called Crowdstrike Falcon. Not quite as bad as a hack, but sounds like they know how to fix it.

Otherwise, it's a comfortable cool 66° this morning. At PT and as soon as I'm done, going to get the grandkids to mow.

Good Morning again!

Micro$oft Azure looks to be the bogus stuff and is/was compromised. CrowdStrike apparently is not a hack, but crappy coding on an update. You did test it first, right? This is one of the reasons we avoid the cloud like the plague. In Terry's case, what a PITA when you can not actually get into work, let alone work. And this is world wide.

We still have a couple of W10 boxes as Maria does not want to learn Fedora ( Linux ) even though the GUI is pretty close to MS, and I still have a W10 box as there is specific software I use once in awhile that is not available in Linux ... yet. I have never seen any Linux box compromised unless you do it to yourself and I have been doing Linux since '95; both servers and desktops.

They will get everything back to normal ... soon! Ya, ok what kind of penalty is gonna be levied to the source cause - nothing I bet.

Later ... maybe.

[edit] forgot about the statement charge. Local bank charges $5.00 to mail a statement. If you opt-out, and go for email statements, you get spammed on a daily basis that ( so far ) there is no way to turn it off. Even complaining to the bank President does nothing. Can we say 'close my account'?

I just checked my Capital One statement and there are no additional fees. I have also checked the American Express card Terry and I both use. There is a 1% user fee on there! I will ask Terry about that later as she is 5 hours behind and I’m not calling her at 3:12am Hawaiian time

Opps! Technology is great when it works.

I heard on NPR they are calling it a "bug" It must be a big bug.

It hasn't affected me, my Microsoft cloud and 365 are working fine.

Thanks for the information, Patrick.

Just spoke to a Fleet leasing company we do maintenance for to follow up on some unpaid bills. They are dead in the water since last night and asked me to check back with them next week. 1st the CDK outage, now this!

Yes, the statement charges are fees for them sending me a paper bill.
Two of them are $1.99 each statement, the other is $5.99 per statement.
The $5.99 is obviously a revenue source. They sent me a statement showing a $0.00 balance, then sent me a bill for $5.99 to send me a statement showing I had a zero balance. I paid them their $5.99, and closed my account.

You're generous. I would have closed the account and refused to pay their fee. Let them sit on it, It's not your fault and not worth their time or money to pursuit,

I did get a statement on my "etrade" account (now owned by morgan stanley I think) that was set up for our company's stock purchase program. When the company got bought the new company had a different brokerage handling employee stock programs so the etrade one just sat empty. Actually it has like a 1 cent balance since after I cleared out anything they added a penny in interest.

I may call them and tell them to close it and keep the penny but I'm not paying the $2 fee for a "statement" I didn't request. Or I may let it sit and let them figure it out.
