Yo! 96° swamp side, 98° front porch. Hazy, Hot and Humid. The weather person on the Disney station acted like it's never been this hot in NYC...
Still hasn't made 100°, although it may tomorrow... I did try to do some work in the garage earlier, but it was stifling and I gave up. Maybe after dinner? The water utility imposed mandatory water use restrictions yesterday evening........If they spent some money on upgrading their system to handle all the expansion, instead of using it for stock buy backs, maybe we wouldn't need usage restrictions every summer.

To top things off, the back wall and windows just rattled for a few seconds...another minor earthquake??? Why not? Everything else is going crazy.

Well, the bad news is that it's 2011, (8:11 PM), and it's getting dark. Dark enough to light up some of my solar lights. This under a mostly clear sky.

The temperature topped out at the predicted 97°, and has dropped to 84°. With the humidity remaining high, it will be an uncomfortable night.

On the bright side, the NWS is reporting that there are currently no Tropical Cyclones in the Atlantic or Caribbean, and none are expected for 48 hours.

Amazing what trivia one can concoct when there is nothing entertaining to distract me.

Good evening everyone!

Wow! A lot of pages to go through to catch up, don't know if I will go through them all.

Arrived home safe and sound from Colorado about an hour and a half ago. We ended up driving straight through. Took us about 15 hours with a lunch stop around Lincoln NE. The desire to sleep in our own bed tonight was the biggest driving force.

Thankfully, I can say I never did. I went from long hair past my shoulders to less than 1/2' over 30 years ago. That is how I keep it. I "mow" my own hair now with a Whal clipper. I'm glad I still have hair and not all of it is grey, yet.
Just me then. Haven't always had one, but I'm pretty much back to one again.
Odd thing about the old man mullet is that the basic, normal groom is pretty much all Grey. At least mine is.
But the mullet part still comes in dark. Maybe not quite the original color. but close.

Now there is one clear advantage right there: You probably have at least some experience with "Wahl Hair Clipper" oil.
For the benefit of overseas peeps who might never have heard of it, Wahl oil is ALSO used as a model railroad rail lubricant, and with good reason. It's a super thin blend, such that a little goes a LONG way. But it can really help improve and smooth electrical wheel-to-rail contact.

Good morning all. A cloudy day and very humid.
A coffee on the go please, Flo.

Housework to attend to. Then to oldest grandson's school to see him at a presentation. He will visit us after school.
A zoom meeting with Ocean Liner colleagues this evening for me, whilst Dawn has a visit of an old college friend.

Well, howdy there internet subjects and Mac N Cheese connoisseurs

It's Troy again.

Went to the other favorite Italian place for dinner last night. I got the sandwich with salami, pepperonie, and two types of ham. Came with a salad. Hold the tomatoes. I'm not fond of raw tomatoes. Wife had spaghetti and meatballs.

Wife was disappointed to find out Saturday, that this event was going on:

Sold out across the board. I hope she signed up for the newsletter. Something tells me that we're going next year, since she LOOOOOOOVES mac-n-cheese.

Rain is giving us a miss at the moment. Storms north and south of The Fort. Going to finally do the Costco run I've been putting off. Might get a brisket, or a big chuck roast. We'll see what looks better.

Time to word some words

Good morning gang!

73° and sunny right now looking for an expected high of 97° later this afternoon with a chance of scattered thunderstorms. We had a doozy of thunderstorm yesterday at work right before closing. My 15 minute ride home brought me home to sunny skies and no rain For the rest of the evening. I guess that’s what they mean by scattered storms. Hopefully today scattered storms will give my lawn a little bit of water.

Time to do the work thing be back later.

Good Morning All. Clear and warm at 79°, and the sun's not even above the horizon yet. Still haven't hit the mythical triple digit mark yet, the NWS is predicting 103° today, but they've been predicting 100° for over a month without success, only made 98° yesterday. They still think that it will rain Thursday.

I have to make a return visit to the primary care doctor this morning, he wasn't in last week to give me a steroid injection for my sciatica. The X-rays from last week show no spinal or disc issues, so maybe the steroid shot and some PT can alleviate the symptoms. I'm not in any constant pain but there's limits to some movements. On one hand, it's a wasted morning, on the other, if I can get some relief, even partial, it will be worth it. We'll have a serious talk today regarding acupuncture as well.

I did the usual yardwork yesterday morning, and then after lunch I took scrap to the recycling center. It turned out that I had less copper and more aluminum than I estimated, but still left there with a $50 bill and some change. Now where is that ScaleTrains E-Mail??? Next trip probably in September, will see an old air conditioner, several electric motors, some batteries and hopefully lots of aluminum window parts in addition to cans. I have scrap steel, but at 8Ā¢/lb, it isn't worth hauling it unless I rent or borrow a trailer.

I didn't spend much time out in the train shed yesterday as I wanted to. Something about beer and pool was a much greater draw. I did service 9 or 10 more switches that had frozen up, and I did finish placing those "No Parking" signs that I started Sunday.
No pictures today as I am pressed for time with the extra early doctor's appointment and the 50 mile drive in late rush hour traffic.

Tom O - I must have missed something along the way. I thought that I remembered that you bought some property and were going to build a home, stables and greenhouse on Maui, but contractors weren't available until late 2024. Now I read that you have a condo? While my wife still dreams of moving to Maui, I can't think of any reason for me to move there.
Patrick - So they really can survive at the office without you! It's always good to know that you have capable backups. I always abided by the philosophy that I only hired folks that could do both their jobs and mine when I wasn't there.
James - I am a trainaholic as well, but I am not on the road to recovery.
Mike - The desire to sleep in one's own bed increases exponentially as one ages!

For all of you folks who are astronomically inclined, the Perseid meteor shower technically begins now, although the peak this year will be August 12-13 as usual. The moon is mostly cooperating if you look between 0200 and 0600, depending on your location. I won't personally linger and gaze until early August myself. This year there could be up to 100 meteors an hour at the peak.

Everybody have a great Tuesday.

Good morning from home in Wisconsin. Mike’s comment about being in your own bed is so right. I slept great for the 1st time inn2 weeks…

Weather last night was horrific around us, but actually here at the house zippo. A trace of rain in the collection device but 2 miles away over 3ā€ in the weather stations collection devices. Northern Illinois had the 3.2 earthquake I believe in the morning and the tornados with even 1 seen at O’Hara Field in Chicago later.

It’s 70f degrees now going to 80 but the humidity is showing as 90% and the dew point at 77degrees.

I was invited to a tear down layout session this morning but the owner texted at 6 that he’s not feeling well. 24 years and 174 sessions later the layout has run its course. To be rebuilt as a double decker with wider aisles.

At 10am I will go to the LHS (4 miles) to check if he has what I want. If he does I will buy there if not MidwestModelRailroad.com with no tax and free shipping is less than both Lombard and Tony’s Trains.

Sometime today I will venture into the train room to start the structure work on the new papermill. Before I took off for my travels I re-did the track work but now I thinking of re-configuring the Northside of the mill again

Lots of conspiracy theories out there in the media, I have my own…

Enjoy the day

late checkin today!
what up coffee folks.

- of course the airport is running, and there are a lot of planes taking off
- was not onsite today had too much meetings.
- its around 28 celcius

- but i can now tell, my Big Boy collection is completed! In this moment i did pay for my pre ordered 1 scale Marklin Big Boy. the last missing piece. now i have one in every scale (almost) G Scale is missing ahahahaha. but i think my wife would kill me if i would get one :P

as soon as i can get hands on this one of course i will make a video and show it to all of you. damn iam happy like a little kid!!!

Good Morning All.

Willie, after the Lahaina fires were out Terry allowed 3 displaced families to stay on the stable grounds as they worked there. The County gave permission to allow temporary full time camping rights to those families because there were available restroom facilities. When she went back in October there were over 30 squatter tents set up and even the original 3 families said they didn’t know most of them.

The contractors told Terry that they couldn’t even start foundation work until late 2024 if then because of the holds put on construction because of the fires. By then though Terry was concerned about the squatters. The 20 acre property including the stables were against the property line of the community my brother lived in. Just before Thanksgiving he approached her asking if she wanted to sell the acreage but not the stables to his golf club. She told them she’d sell both but not just the property. After a few proposals and counter offers Terry hauled me out there to look it over. In exchange for the property and the stables was a new 2 story condo. To say I was in awe is understating it. Not as big as the little brother’s place (his is 3 stories) but way more than we will ever need. She also got a HOA fee waiver for 7 years.

There is a lot more to it but basically because of the fires Maui has really changed. There has always been animosity between the natives and part time home owners. But it has intensified immensely since the fires and had started to hurt the tourism industry which is vital to the island. My brother sold first his empty acreage and then his house. He was so scared of squatters he was hiring professional house sitters whenever he left the island. He moved onto the club property and has a condo just off the shoreline. My super liberal wife was freaked out by the squatter problem and lack of local government and police interest. The gated community and her came to a deal just before Christmas and when Terry went back in February the squatters had been removed and the stables closed. She, our daughter and a good friend painted my brother’s condo and ok’d changes to her condo (mainly in the kitchen) that was just being completed and is just minutes walking from my brother’s place. She sees his girlfriend pretty much daily and my brother once a week when he’s there. My sister has her own suite there and her and Terry are as close as sisters! The 3 families that worked at the stables are now working for the club (part of the deal she made) and live in a legit temporary village on club property.

It’s been a strange year since the Lahaina fires. For me it is still a nice place to visit. For Terry it’s a place she wants to live, so we have compromised.
