Good Morning All. Clear and 77°, Mother Nature forgot to cool off overnight. We still haven't hit the elusive 100° mark, although the forecast is for higher than that today. Weather geeks still are predicting thunderstorms for Thursday, and now Sunday instead of Saturday. We shall see.
Special day for me today, 9 years ago on July 15, 2015, was my last official day at work. I got tired of commuting 50 miles each way and for the previous 18 months I had no duties or responsibilities any more; just a paycheck. They were about to move the whole company into a new location 11 miles away, so It was time to hang it up. A few months prior, the HR manager accidentally let it slip that management was told by the company owners that they couldn't terminate me because I was the longest-tenured employee on the payroll nationwide. But I was bored by then.
Nothing new on the estate yesterday, I cut more firewood but it's still laying on the ground since I hadn't emptied the cart from the day before. I need to figure out where I want to stack all of the new stuff for drying; I hadn't planned on this windfall. It needs to be convenient to the house, but all of those places are already occupied with the supply for the '24-'25 season. I also need to consider that my wife occasionally brings some in.
Looks like the barn swallows over my front porch are ready to leave their nest.
There's just three of them in there, but it looks crowded.
Update on the neighbor Bubba. He hopes to move the donated double-wide trailer (the one that another neighbor's insurance company totaled out), onto his property on Tuesday. It only has to go 1/4 mile. I had already given him permission to move it across my property, that way the moving folks don't have to get and pay for a permit to move it on public roads; even though that route is only about a half mile.
Out in the train shed yesterday, I did a couple of things. I made and installed some signs for the recent scene. Here's a pair.
No Parking across the alley. I made a few more for another place but haven't installed them yet.
But I spent a lot more time tweaking 6 switches. When the ceiling leaked, it dissolved a lot of scenery glue, especially in the ballast. It pooled and dried under the turnout mechanisms and they were all stuck in whatever positions they were in. I had to carefully free each one up and in some cases remove ballast that had also moved. while I was at each one, I added a drop of light lubricating oil to each, since some were harder to operate. I now need to look at the other 110 ground throws to check them out!
Louis - Kinda un-American to not like Mac & Cheese. I love homemade but reduced my intake to just 3-4 times a year due to carb counting. I get too many carbs from Italian food! I can handle the boxed stuff but choose not to any more, too many added shit!
Karl - Red or white sauce is fine for pasta from my point of view. I am not a real fan of white pizza but I will eat it.
Terry - So moving did have more than one advantage!
Chad - Good to read that you recovered from the wind event at the new home. I am wondering how long it will take to recover from our tornado from May. It won't take me as long as the neighbors who lost their whole house.
Everybody have a wonderful Monday. Sorry if you have to return to work; I've loved every minute of retirement.
