Cards win! 3-2 in the first of three against the Rockies.
After winning the series 3 games to 2 against the Yankees in the Bronx, last night's win brings the Red Birds back to .500 with a 58-58 record. The Cardinals have a young team, I really enjoy watching them play. Any team that looks past the Cardinals is in for a rude awaking. When their young power hitters have good ABs they can hit any pitcher!
Cubs won as well beating KC 6-4.
The Cubs are now 7-3 in their last 10 games. They are hands down the best defensive team I have seen play this year. Combined with their veteran starting pitchers and hi-powered offense they are force to be reckoned with in the National League.

I was watching the end of the Dodgers - Diamondbacks game. The Dodgers need this game. They are 0-5 since the trade deadline and currently mired in a 6-game losing streak. So much for being buyers. - From a come from behind win to a heart-breaking walk off loss to the Diamondbacks. The Dodger's losing streak is now 7 games. It is not all sunshine and roses being a Dodgers' fan.

It's time for Orioles baseball! Another 1-run loss... I'm not going to comment on this game until i watch it.

The Orioles' Shane Baz is this season's "tough luck" pitcher. How does a pitcher with a 3.76 ERA end up with a 4-11 record? Simple - he gets no run support. Baz has averaged over six innings per start in his last seven outings, with an impressive 2.55 ERA. Numbers like that usually put you in the top ten for Cy Young consideration. Yet somehow, he’s 0-3 with four no-decisions those games.

The Orioles’ offense has been under achieving most of the season and has seemed especially lifeless in recent games. In the month of August, they have scored a total of 10-runs in six games. That would have been bad in 1968 ("The Year of the Pitcher", a great book by the way.) In 2026 it’s downright pathetic. I'm no genius, but I don't think this lineup is working. I would love to tell Orioles' manager Craig Albernaz, "I could have told you this was stupid!"

Everyone I've heard from or read about who has worked with Albernaz says he's a genius. This team doesn't need a genius, at least not one determined to prove how smart he is. I'm sure many of you remember the knock against Earl Weaver "anyone could manage that team". Earl was a genius, but he was also fearless enough to know he didn't need to prove anything. Winning speaks for itself.

Fortitude is more import than being a genius when it comes to managing an MLB team. The game has been around for over a century; it’s hardly rocket science! When you have a great roster, simply follow the tried-and-true methods and good things will happen. Bad things will happen if you try to show how smart you are.

I saw a few videos of dry aging steak. Saw this one and seems easy enough, so giving it a try. Wife makes shio koji pork, which is very good. I'm trying flank steak. In the oven now and will get it up to 135. Then let it rest before cranking the oven up to 450 for the burn. Too hot to brown it outside.

Guga also used shio koji.

Well, I thought I had overcooked it. Came out of the oven at 140F. Should have been paying more attention. Anyway, let it rest while I baked some egg plant medallions. After that was done, cranked the oven temp up to 450 and gave it a 3 minute hit. It rested for another 10 minutes, but when I cut it up, it was still pink inside and very tender. Taste is good too. Very different from the shio koji pork.

Good Morning All!
58F @ 44% dark, but don't smell like smoke. Thanks Mike for getting those OR fires out!

Skunks Few years back; well '04 when we moved to MT those critters found us. Of course, the Lab found one of them. Somebody told us about using Tomato Juice to kill the smell. Gave it a go and it worked perfect ( or so we thought, read on ). Went to the not so local Vet a little later and asked about that. She told us not so good to use as it does not break down the sulfur molecules, it tricks your nose for a bit. Smell comes back but lighter because of time. Hydrogen Peroxide, baking soda and Dawn; douse whomever when it is fizzy and rub it in. Don't remember the ratio's, watch the Peroxide as it could lighten the hair a bit. Ya, humans too! Don't think you could get a Bear or Bobcat to stand still long enough, so don't bother.

I learned something about goats. Always thought when they went to bed just before dark, that was it until light. Thought they could not see well in darkness. Lil proved that wrong. I am up early as you can see, almost pitch black. I could barely see her white water bucket in the pen. Pretty soon a white blob came out of her Hut, went directly to the food and water dishes, drank, munched for a bit, then went back to bed.

Painting is done in the Chick/Goat house. Can start the wiring so we can get rid of the scaffolding and have room to move around more; besides not whacking your head on the thing going under it to get in the place. That should not take too long as I only have 4 or 5 circuits to handle. Or, maybe start on the front deck. Hmmm..decisions decision. Water distribution is another animal. Maria has a bunch of nipples and ..um.. dongle type things for the animals to get a drink from; so cut, paste and drill PVC for that.

Oh, lonely here, Ima the only one logged in. Y'all are lazy ;)

795 here this morning with 2 members! Doesn’t matter as when the forum is working the number of visitors hasn’t seemed to matter. Just happy though we have a good forum.

WILLIE, Curt’s posts his modeling and stops daily at Geezers Lounge (coffee shop) over on THE MODELERS FORUM. That’s the place most of the crew from the Railroad Line Forums migrated to when RRL forums was shut down with I think a 2 week notice a few years ago. His wife is still a huge member of the skunk rescue scene in Florida

RR-L forums shut down when a planned upgrade didn’t work very well and we had issues similar to what we are now experiencing here on the Model Railroad Forum. The owner even with offers of $$$ help from the members decided instead of spending more was to shut it down. So let’s be careful what we wish for

65f degrees now in gloomy overcast So. Central Wisconsin where it should clear up to high 80’s this afternoon per the WeatherChannel app. Wife said last night there were no plans for today unless I thought of something. So we shall be home today.

Terry at dinner said last night we have to re-think our trip to Texas in September. The long range forecast is calling for high 90’s and Austin’s normal high humidity! Wimberley’s not much better though it’s higher in the Hill Country. So, that means we are not going. We had been planning to see Badger Volleyball play the University of Texas at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas A&M in College Station and Baylor in Waco. Terry just has not been the healthiest the last 2 years and definitely has been slowing down and her COPD is getting worst. High humidity and high heat has really been bothersome to her this Summer.

Enjoy the day

Sorry, but that's not dry aging. It's more like marinating, but it sounds like it would taste great.

I had a sales position with a local pork processor/packing house that also did beef cattle once a week. The top & bottom rounds were removed for ground beef and the rest of carcass was hung in the dry aging room for a minimum of 28 days (up to 45). The first week you lose about 10% from dehydration, then about 1% every week after that. She does a fantastic job of explaining the science behind dry aging and why the cost is so high. I loved buying a whole dry aged sirloin. I would cut out the coulotte for steaks and grind the rest. I splurged once and bought a whole short loin and had them cut porterhouse and t-bones for the freezer. That was a treat.

Good morning all

A mostly sunny Saturday morning. Currently its 68F with a high of 83. Pretty much a carbon copy of yesterday.

Today Is usual Saturday stuff. Have to make a grocery run, gas up the cars, and a load or two of laundry.

Tonight we are attending my wife's 39th class reunion. Going to be pretty boring for me as I don't know many of them. We haven't went to one in several years.

Have a safe day everyone!

Well howdy there internet peeps, and even the skunks

It's Troy again.

Made it to the grocery this morning. Trying not to aggravate the piriformus in my left butt cheek, but that's not working well. So when I hit the store I stared at the carts for a few seconds, then turned to my left and spied my buggy for the morning.

Regular sciatica lets me stand. The Piriformis kind hurts no matter what. So I opted for comfort and less aggravation.

Sitting isn't bad, and takes it to a dull ache. but I have to fidget a lot to keep changing positions.

I did manage to almost finish some undead Minotaurs and magical statues for the wargame.

Each model is about 3 inches tall.
