Good Morning All. Partly cloudy and 79°, warm for this time of morning even during August. High today is expected to be 96°, but take that with a grain of salt. We missed yesterday's forecast high by 3°. Big change in the upcoming forecast, with 102° now predicted for Tuesday and thunderstorms on Wednesday; I won't believe until I see.

I spent all day yesterday socializing. The Celebration of Life for our late friend David went very well. Per his will, it was a traditional Irish wake held in an Irish bar in a North Dallas suburb. Many friends and family were there and there were some excellent tributes from some. Irish appetizer table (well except for the egg-rolls) and an open bar filled out the occasion. Besides many of my friends and both of my daughters/spouses, there was an eclectic group. There was a group of folks a bit older than me, I think that it was some of his cousins, that were downing multiple shoots of Irish Whisky chased by some Guinness Stout, at a pace that I couldn't keep up with even in my college days. Another lady had a beer bottle in the cup holder on her wheeled walker.
Afterward, we went to daughter #1's home a couple of miles away and had an excellent steak dinner. The trip home took an additional 45 minutes as IH35E was shut down due to a horrific traffic accident a few hours earlier. Still left was an 18-wheeler with two crumpled vehicles underneath the trailer. I believe that there was one death at least. I had jumped off and gotten on the service road (along with many others) about 3 miles before, or I would have been delayed much longer. I am quite familiar with this area (part of my daily commute for years and I lived in this community) and I know that there are no back roads to use. Bridge across a large lake being the only way through. At least I wasn't part of the queue where they were diverting 4 lanes of highway into a single lane exit that joined all of us already on the access road.

Terry - Thankfully I haven't had any trains do the "roll over and play dead" trick since I started this latest (and last) layout.
Karl - Have a safe trip.
Troy - That's a great Bar Mills kit. At least in HO which is what I built.

For us old-timers, Mae West would have been 132 today. She did make it to 87 though.
Everyone have a great Sunday.

Good morning all,

A chilly 61 headed for 74. We got an inch of rain yesterday, it totally soaked in, it was so dry here.

We are taking a trip to Grantsburg, WI today, about 47 miles. Plan to visit the History Center, have lunch, and visit a couple shops. Will take the scenic route home.

I made a major milestone on the layout yesterday, scenery is installed around the entire layout, all the roads are in, and the ballasting is complete. I did some major cleanup in there as well, just about ready for the skirting. Trees and buildings to add, but the bones are all in place.

Have a great day all,

Dave LASM

Good morning all!

Another muggy warm day today. Currently 76F heading to a high of 89F. Weather app says the humidity is near 100%. Last nights
storm totally fizzed as they have all summer. Got a few rumbles of thunder and a couple sprinkles out of it. Not even enough to
wet the pavement. It was an impressive ominous sky though.

Do have to mow today. I got lazy yesterday and didn't really feel like doing it.

Nothing accomplished in the train room yesterday. Wasnt feeling that either, will get down there later today.

Have a safe day everyone!

Mornin', everyone. It's 83F and 80% out here on the patio today. Just a few wispy clouds overhead, which is unfortunate, because I have some outdoor work to do today.

Yesterday was decent. I ended up splitting my time between track planning and power washing my back patio and pool deck, which desperately needed it. Got about 75% of the latter done; it's a lot more work than one would think, especially when temps are reaching for triple digits...

On the track plan, I'm currently tinkering with a sort of folded dogbone; it's looking like it might be a winner, but we'll see. I'll be working more on that today.

Oh, and my train room camera controls quit again, which doesn't surprise me. I think it might be heat related. Turned it off again, and will get up there and fix it when I next feel like it, which probably won't be today. I don't actually need it 'til I start building stuff.

On the topic of batteries:

My Mustang sits quietly in the garage for entire winters at a time. Until recently, I've also had to replace the battery about once a year or so, and was attributing their lack of longevity to the lack of winter use. I was sourcing them from AAA, simply because they will come to your door and do the install for free.

Last time, I grabbed a decent name brand battery at Costco instead (can't remember which one offhand) and installed it myself, and am having much better luck with it. I think it's been a couple of years now, and it's still going strong; the aftermath of the coming winter will probably tell the real tale. I'm kinda wondering if AAA's private label batteries are crappy refurbs or something.

Anyway, I'm off to get my day started. Have to finish the power washing (which shouldn't take too horribly long), and I have more track to plan. Oh, and just the general Sunday night chores, of course. There was talk of a birthday thing for my brother in law this afternoon or evening, but I've not heard anything yet, so we'll see what happens.

Have a great Sunday, folks!

The 10/22 is a nice 22. I have 2 of them. Just rebuilt the older 1977 one with some new springs and other worn parts, like new again.

Good morning...Coffee Flo please. Thunder and to the west, lets see if it makes it past the lake shadow or gets dried up like it normally dose.
This is what every 10/22 wants to be......

I'm so confused...

What a trap. That's messed up. Luckily, I don't know what the control panel is and I only go through the settings page.
The keychain is a thing in the system that safely stores all your usernames and passwords to things. Including WiFi etc. As well as website. If iCloud is on it’s shared amongst devices but if iCloud is off its device only.

The control thing, inforhtvits real name, is when you swipe down from upper right corner and get a bunch of shortcut buttons.

And I just opened my iPad, and wifi is disconnected, and the network password not saved.
I guess I’ll need to contact Apple, and have them explain to me why my iPad and iPhone are sharing their settings, even though I’ve turned iCloud off on both.
It occurs to me that you may be able to fix this in your router. Some routers have the ability to blacklist certain devices so they can't connect. Could be an option, but I don't know enough about your setup to be able to say any more than that.

I guess it boils down to: contact Apple, or contact the ISP support. :|

That reminds me, I forgot to ask how they charge the auto batteries they use for their trains?
No clue, but in some areas they're allowed to put a charging alternator on their buggies. And, a lot them work in the building trades. They could always ask an "English" buddy (as in non-Amish, not a Brit) to give it charge and bring it back. Or, for some of the RV factories, brining it into the factory and connecting it to a shared charger is probably a perk (gotta keep the buggy lights legal, you know! -WINK)

Is it just on my end, or are any of you guys experiencing intermittent, slow, sluggish forum performance?

Its almost like it was back before Bob did the server upgrade, or it could be just me.

Just started noticing it in the past week or so.
Has been booming in here pretty much since that last upgrade.

What is your windoz box doing when it is slow - right click on the task bar, choose Task Manager. I have been getting 100% disk for at least 10 minutes after startup everyday - and it is not downloading update or doing them.

It seems to be happening when using the phone as well.

So I don't think its anything with my PC

It is funny you bring this up. My Surface Pro 7 does that. 100% CPU and 95% Memory with no apps open. My day to day laptop never has that issue.

Louis - sorry 5-4
