Same Ol' Buzzard
Good Morning All. Partly cloudy and 79°, warm for this time of morning even during August. High today is expected to be 96°, but take that with a grain of salt. We missed yesterday's forecast high by 3°. Big change in the upcoming forecast, with 102° now predicted for Tuesday and thunderstorms on Wednesday; I won't believe until I see.
I spent all day yesterday socializing. The Celebration of Life for our late friend David went very well. Per his will, it was a traditional Irish wake held in an Irish bar in a North Dallas suburb. Many friends and family were there and there were some excellent tributes from some. Irish appetizer table (well except for the egg-rolls) and an open bar filled out the occasion. Besides many of my friends and both of my daughters/spouses, there was an eclectic group. There was a group of folks a bit older than me, I think that it was some of his cousins, that were downing multiple shoots of Irish Whisky chased by some Guinness Stout, at a pace that I couldn't keep up with even in my college days. Another lady had a beer bottle in the cup holder on her wheeled walker.
Afterward, we went to daughter #1's home a couple of miles away and had an excellent steak dinner. The trip home took an additional 45 minutes as IH35E was shut down due to a horrific traffic accident a few hours earlier. Still left was an 18-wheeler with two crumpled vehicles underneath the trailer. I believe that there was one death at least. I had jumped off and gotten on the service road (along with many others) about 3 miles before, or I would have been delayed much longer. I am quite familiar with this area (part of my daily commute for years and I lived in this community) and I know that there are no back roads to use. Bridge across a large lake being the only way through. At least I wasn't part of the queue where they were diverting 4 lanes of highway into a single lane exit that joined all of us already on the access road.
Terry - Thankfully I haven't had any trains do the "roll over and play dead" trick since I started this latest (and last) layout.
Karl - Have a safe trip.
Troy - That's a great Bar Mills kit. At least in HO which is what I built.
For us old-timers, Mae West would have been 132 today. She did make it to 87 though.
Everyone have a great Sunday.
