I’ve had to watch the map, and go on a search and destroy mission to find the driver. They periodically have trouble finding me, and leave my stuff wherever.
Ah, that's a good reason for it. I've only had one time where they delivered to the wrong address. Luckily it was my next door neighbor and he came over as soon as he realized his mistake.

Chat-GPT-5 is now an option when using Microsoft's Copilot AI. I don't know what that means, but I thought it was interesting when you mentioned Chat GPT.

Not for nothing, but whether one considers graffiti an expression of creativity, or a further sign of the decline of our society, the reality is that Model Railroading reflects the industry in a chosen era.
I fall firmly in the camp of those who consider graffiti a further sign of the decline of our society. Fortunately there is no graffiti nor any specific era for my trains.

Realisim is very low on my priority list. Its a good thing, because to recreate graffiti on such a small scale takes tremendous artistic talent. Something I have little of.

Set expectations and make sure you don't let up on them. What is and what is not acceptable.
Another failure on my part.

I realized this when the Baltimore County Police showed up at my door with my oldest daughter. They caught her drag racing in my BMW. Rather than to give her a ticket they brought her home to me. WTF! she could have been arrested, I know all too well!

My daughter has my gift of gab and my ex-wife's ability to create a believable false narrative. They can be so convincing, I swear they could pass a lie detector test. Many woman also have the ability to manipulate men with tears and use it very well. A pretty face magnifies the impact of the tears.

The kindness (kind or gullible, I'm not really sure) of the young officer saved me a fortune in fines and increased auto insurance.

She also talked (manipulated) her way out of a minor accident. The old fella told her "don't worry about it, there is not much damage" o_O

I think we all can say we love our kids.
So very true, in my case my love for my kids has made me blind. Once they became adults and my "vision" improved they are not so happy with daddy sometimes. They can't handle the truth, particularly my daughters.

I miss them old looney toons cartoons. They were hilarious and fun. All our cartoons in the 80s and 90s were either 30 minute toy commercials frequently interrupted by ads for McDonald's or beating you over the head with morals. Booooooo.
YouTube is your friend. I can even watch the politically incorrect Looney Tunes cartoons.

The Animaniacs had some great cartoons in the 1990s. My favorite was Pinky and the Brain "One is a genius the other is insane."

How far is FT McCoy from you? Could maybe be some reservist training going on.

Spent several summers there during my 2 week reservist training.

Fort McCoy is 91 miles northwest of me according to Maps. Drove by there on I90 Tuesday and it seemed quiet as did Polk Air field 73 miles north of me on I90/94 in Camp Douglas. I’ve not seen or paid attention if any helicopters are stationed at Truax Field Air National Guard that shares the Dane County Airport. F35a’s are currently based there and frequently fly over the area. You don’t hear those guys coming but when they get overhead the ground shakes. You definitely will hear them for sometime afterward. They fy low. The 6 helicopters might have just been cross country flying but coming out of the West heading East they might have come from anywhere. Fort McCoy though is a great possibility as they are a US Army Reserve training base.

Well, howdy there internet peeps and those that the love the smell of smoke in the morning...

Here's what my grill was doing at 6:05 am

Houston! There is a problem... the smoking wood chunks I put under it weren't large enough to give it the clearance it needed on my 18 inch kamado.

A quick shower, and head into the big box store, I returned with a rib rack. I'm not into ribs, so I didn't have one handy.

Now the brisket fits. Another two hours and I should be able to remove it once the meat shrinks enough.

You'll notice that one of my temperature probe wires disappears downward. It's not supposed to be down there. It was killing the fire thinking it was too hot, since the probe was touching the metal of the smoke deflector (a "Slo Roller"). That probe sent data back to the command center in charge of the vent fan.

Houston told me how to fix it, and now we're sailing right again.

Good morning from Wisconsin. 60f or 15c and I chuckled when David (NorthBrit) said it will be a scorcher of a day for him as it was 22c already. Since he’s 6 hours ahead of me it’s roughly 2pm in GB when I write this. We are heading to the mid 80’s or roughly 29c at 1pm CDT.
That is a perfect temperature depending on humidity IMO.

I finished yesterday the weathering (I’ve been on a huge row) for the remaining September deliveries of diesel weathering. Today I will double check them and then do a clear coat. Terry says she likes that I’m not so immersed in the weathering as I have been in the past. I’ll continue to do commission work but not advertising any longer. If anyone here though wants a diesel or freight car weathered and can handle the 6-8 week waiting time send me a message. I still have a core group of 10-12 regulars that send me equipment and it’s a nice volume for me to handle. Last night after the grandson’s playoff game (they hung on to win 6-4) I did get to straightening out the shelves that hold the items to be weathered. The bench area is looking good again.

Tuesday at the OPS session one of the guys asked me if I quit weathering as he heard. I said no, I still do equipment just not in the volume I was. Turns out he’s a close friend of one of my previous biggest clients who I did mainly intermodal equipment for. I told him his friend and I often clashed as the friend would stop (mostly he had his daughter stop by delivering) by drop off 50 to 100 well cars and 100 to 200 containers and need expedited service. It was constant for 3 years and finally I said no as he wanted the same for auto racks. He told me his friend was complaining he can’t find any one as good or reasonably priced as me. I told the guy he can it’s the time frame he wants stuff back in if he’d tell you the truth. I loved doing intermodal so I told him tell his friend to call me in October.

The big change coming for my next weathering adventures is I am moving in October my entire weathering shop. I am moving to the daughter’s craft shop that also contains her business office upstairs and the granddaughter’s chicken coop/run/ ?. There’s plenty of room for me, my old paint booth was installed there before she occupied the space so it’s ready whenever I am. She also has 2 lasers, a bunch of 3d printers and 1 circuit cutter. So I’m in a good space. My available space is H shaped around the paint booth and when finished I will post pictures. I will now have room at home for a helix if I ever want to do one on the layout. But it’s again something to get me out of the house but also limit the time I spend weathering.

Yesterday hitting golf balls on the simulator I was hitting drives 230 to 240 yards consistently. That felt good even though that’s still way below the 250+ I was hitting last Summer. It’s been a long very slow recovery but the left arm is at a great 61% per my last test. The doctors said if I got to 40% to be thrilled. My PT though always told me I had no limits, she’s right. She is still pushing me. I am going to play at least 9 holes tomorrow on a real course with a couple other guys and maybe the Son in Law.

We are heading out for our weekly Thursday breakfast/brunch outing. Later alligators!

Enjoy the day

Is Tom Hanks or Brad Pitt playing you in the movie?

Good Morning All. Mostly clear and 73°, might hit 98° today. Only made it to 94° yesterday. As usual for August, there is no rain in our forecast, but they have been wrong before.

Weekly grocery trek today, the list has quite a few items on it already and I haven't looked at the circular yet. It normally doesn't sway me anyway, I just get what's on the list. I will look at the online coupons and sometimes take advantage of something that I might need in the next two weeks or so. And I still get paper coupons in the mail about every 3-4 weeks that are aimed at us specifically, based on past purchases. Pharmacy is also on the list today.
Yesterday, I did a double shift on the tractor, mowing nearly 2.5 acres. One 45 minute shift in the morning and a second in the early afternoon. I need to finish up the remainder today if I have enough gas.

Growing up, I wasn't required to contribute to car insurance or gas money. But I really wasn't allowed to use the car for anything more than my paper route when it rained. Used the bus to get to and from school until senior year when a fellow who lived 2 blocks away transferred to my HS and we became friends. He had a car and took me both ways all year and never accepted gas money. My first car was a 10 year old VW beetle that I got after we got married. Wife had her own car in college.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I did some ground cover between the fuel distributor spur and the main line. Then I added trees to the back of the distributor property and a sorry sapling in the RR ROW.

The next step will be to add some tall grassy weeds in the ROW.

Karl - Have a safe trip.
Louis -
I love the Oscar Mayer truck! I don't remember seeing that on your layout thread. Of course I suffer from CRS... Now I have a great excuse to review your thread again.
Please do review the thread again; but I haven't gotten to the town of Charlottesville where the Oscar Mayer truck is. It reminds me that I need to continue on with that thread that has taken a back seat to gardening and yard maintenance temporarily. Waiting for a rainy day to keep me indoors!

Graffiti - I don't have a real opinion one way or the other regarding it, but I do have it on maybe 20% of my freight cars, mainly to reflect the reality of the era that I model. I need to have more and I have several dozen decals to do it with, but I haven't been in the mood in a while.

Everyone have a great Thursday.

Summer is a very active time for Reserve components. And since readiness funding has been restored, for Active components.

My son flew several round trips between New Mexico / Texas and NY State in UH-60s. Slow but scenic ride.

Good morning all!

Currently a very sunny morning. Good to see. Temps are 68F but with the 93% humidity its muggy. Highs will be around
83F. No rain forecasted.

Nothing big planned for today. Have a few things to get done and if the mood strikes me, I may mow today.

Didn't spend a lot of time yesterday downstairs. I did manage to get some more painting done on the mountains. I put some
photos in my build thread this morning.

Have a safe day everyone!

Good morning all,

58 and breezy, partly sunny, headed for 75 I think. Rain possible, we need it.

Headed to Menards to pick up a couple new toilet seats. Will also visit McDonald's for an egg Mcmuffin.

A little more wood cutting and splitting, then the train shed.

Only 12 species of birds this morning, although just now treated to a loon laughing it up overhead...

More later, Dave LASM

I wasn't sure how active it was anymore.

When we would go up there, it wasn't uncommon to have a dozen or more different units from all around training there. Every other year we would have to be in the field for 2 weeks and the next year we got the luxury of the old wooden long barracks.

Good times!

Good morning. Today is the last day of normal summer temps around here (89°F) until next Wednesday. Temps until then are going to be in the mid to upper 90°F with H/Is in the 101°F to 108°F range.

Speaking of toilets, I replaced a flush valve seal yesterday that had been leaking so badly I had to shut the water off after a flush. The new seal is working much better, but at times there is still some seepage that causes the fill valve to open for a few seconds. I would like to see a little more mass on the flush tower, but short of adding a lead strip to it, that's not happening.

Does anyone know if it is the weight of the tower and the water pressure bearing down on it, or the vacuume of water trying to drain out of the bowl that causes this tower to seal against the seal?

When I searched for this seal at the Home Depot web site I didn't know there were so many configurations of flush valves, and they seem to be toilet-brand specific in a lot of cases. I have no idea how old this toilet is, but it seems to be old. They do still make this flush valve though, so I guess the toilet is still around too. I would have replaced the entire flush valve assembly, but separating the tank from the bowl was not my first choice of retirement maintenance tasks to do this week.

If the dewpoint stays in check today, I might grab a six-pack of Bitburger and sit outside for awhile today. The jury is still out on that though.

Hope you all have a good day.

Good afternoon all. Not quite the 'scorcher' like yesterday. Cloud has drifted in and the temperature remains at 22 C.
Grandson thought he was staying here tonight, but his parents want him back home. Youngest grandson is staying here tonight instead.

Aircraft. I can sit on the banks of the North Tyne Valley and watch the aeroplanes come up the valley; seeing the pilots bellow as they pass.
Most memorable was (before the Falklands War) going to the local store. Hearing a low drone, looking around wondering what it was. Over the rooftops, and I mean over the rooftops, darkness descended. The triangular shape of a Avro Vulcan.
Now I have to take my young granddaughters to the Aircraft Museum.

Ah, yes....Those buildings lasted until the termites won out.
These reminded me of what WWII baracks would of looked like. Everything was wood and white!

The buildings at FT Dix during basic weren't even that old and more modern in construction.

I remember the stark contrast going from FT Dix to Aberdeen Proving grounds. At APG, we had fresh new barracks with 3 person rooms and private bathrooms. I got lucky and they never put a third person in with us. The guy I shared a room with had a girl in town so I had the place all to myself from Friday to Sunday evening.

Thought we had hit the big-time!
