Finally made it to triple digits yesterday and I could really feel it; with the very low humidity (I forgot to look) it actually hurt to breathe it was so dry. Topped out at 101 with PC skies.
Today is forecast at 100 with possible TS - there seems to be some sort of atmospheric phenomenon called monsoon which sparsely produces a few large scattered wind and rain clouds.

Spent the afternoon looking at quartz and granite slabs for countertops; the Spousal unit is serious about the kitchen workover. Amazingly, true to fashion, she walks in the warehouse and picks out the most expensive marble slab in the building God love her!
She laughed and told me of the time when she was 15 YO and her father took her shopping for a new bathing suit. She walked up to the carousel with all the suits and said, " I like this one".
Her father said, " I guess you would; it is the most expensive one on the rack"!
Some things never change.

FLO - Just a breakfast sandwich and a Diet Dr. P this morning - please!

P.S. We are not getting the $5,200 marble slab because I did not win the "billion plus" lotto, but it was the first one she spotted!
Get Quartz. Doesn't require ongoing maintenance. Most of the other natural stone ones do require ongoing maintenance. Quartz is 95% natural stone but all ground up and glued together and is basically maintenance free. And there are a lot of really good looking and natural looking ones.

Good morning. Current temperature, 77°, condition, overcast. Prediction: Mostly Sunny, high of 82°. I slept in again this morning, and was awakened by a torrential downpour, which measured 0.38". Quieter rains last evening dropped 0.71" of rain.
Sherrel and Louis commented on the Baltimore @ San Diego game. Everyone I follow, Washington, Philadelphia, and da Mets all LOST 🤬. The Yankees also lost to Atlanta. :) I dislike Atlanta, but hate the Yankees ...The Yankees play in the Bronx, but identify with Gotham. They are like the Hockey Rangers....despicable!

EP-5s at New Haven - February 1973 - Doug Kydd photo.jpg

Doug Kydd captured this photo of PC E40s on the ready track in New Haven in February 1973, shortly before they were removed from passenger service. Shame PC just ran out their equipment trusts, instead of rebuilding them, like they did the E33s.

DAVID - Truly AWESOME photos this morning! Any additional pic of that bridge?
Here's hoping that DAWN is feeling better!
Thank you, Sherrel. Dawn had a tiny (and I mean tiny) piece of watermelon and has agravated her stomach. Enough to keep her in bed until 3.00pm today. Anyway she feels a little better.

The Forth Bridge. I have been across it a number of times. Not good to take pictures of it then. 😁
Only pictures I have of it is from Dalmeny Station.

We did a 'gotta get outa here' thing on Sunday. Went to Yaak for lunch. 180 mile loop. Yaak is a tiny town somewhat NW of Libby about 70 miles from us. Has 2 bars, 0 gas stations, 1 Post Office, and various Forrest Service buildings. The Dirty Shame was closed due to remodel: had to do the kitchen or the State was not going to license them. During that process the front facade apparently fell off - so do that too. The Mercantile is where we ate. Was good to relax and not worry about nailing, wiring or insulating. In any event, a visit to the Big Boy's Room' turned up this pix:

Sorry about the flash in the pix, st00pid Cell Phone camera.

Also, I remember somebody saying they wanted to see RR stuff along the RoW - These two are not Yaak, but Troy. Notice the selfie ..kinda...

I have returned in one piece. While vision is still blurry in the left eye, I can already see the difference in colors and brightness that I experienced with the right eye two weeks ago. Blurriness in the first eye lasted about 24 hours. Meanwhile I can do stuff with one eye closed like when driving home from parties during the 70's.

(I wrote this for my update on the JNS Forum and copy/pasted here to save time)

Anyway, the roofers were supposed to start Monday. They were here but their materials (different contractor) didn't show. Tuesday the materials guys came but were late. They finally got set up and started rolling the steel for the standing seam. They got a lot done but then two of their rolls of steel were defective so they couldn't finish. The roofer crew was there for a while but did not do anything. I guess it was late enough they didn't want to start.

Today the materials guys showed up I guess early and finished the steel. I didn't get up there until about 10:15am and they were gone. But the roofing crew was up on the roof getting set up.

Last week the plumbers were working -- don't know where they are this week. Anyway, one of the things they were doing is setting drain pipes etc and they had laid the shower pan (prefab -- not build in place) and marked it. Since we are using infloor radiant and the actual floor will be about 3" above the subfloor (1" foam insulation and 1.5-1.75" lightweight concrete (gypcrete) plus LVP, and because of the way the prefab shower pan is built and parts need to stick down below the subfloor, and also because the shower space was about 2.56" two wide, I built a platform and also furred in the side walls to fit the pan. I did this over the weekend. I still need to cut a slot where the bottom of the shower pan will stick down -- the trough that has the drain...

Also, on the north side in the above garage bonus space there are a few small office type rooms (for my WFH office and the wife's place to organize herself and a small project room "daughter's office). Each has a tilt/turn window that is 36"x36". Originally the plans called for a 38"x42" or close to that window (HxW) but the window lintel was too shallow and to make it bigger they had to change the height of the window a few inches and because of the ratio limitations on this sort of window they had to make the width a little less. However, the guys who were helping me had an older plan set for some reason (I had sent them the newer ones but they called the wrong ones up) so they built the wall with the original openings for the larger windows (and shallow lintel space). I didn't realize they had done this and thought the shallow lintel was just a measuring issue somewhere else that manifested itself at the top of the wall so I put extra steel in it to support it (it only supports the roof and not more wall above anyway). So the window openings for those 4 windows are larger but the windows we bought were to the new spec so they are much smaller. So I've been working to frame in the opening to make it smaller. I got one done last night and now that I know what to do the other 3 should be done by tomorrow. In the pic below the orange colored frame is the original opening and you can see where I built it in.

I used a 2x4 front and back and filled the gap with foam, and then laid a 5/8" OSB left over from the roof on top of that, and then one or two layers, depending on how much I needed to bring it in, of 1/2" plywood that we had from our flooring order -- they had used it to support the flooring on the top of the pallets...

You can see the finished result here. We'll "paint" the inside of the frame all around on the 1/3-1/2 depth from the outside in to the house as well as the outside wall around the frame with some water proofing material (Semco polyurea based) and then they will of course flash it all as normal with Vycor Plus... So it should be good and waterproof after sealing with sealant/silicone. The window guys come Saturday so I need to finish these frames as well as the waterproofing (with the Semco) around the frames for all the windows not yet done by then.

Afternoon all,

Crazy couple of days, but temps are much cooler. Had to do the labs for next week's physical, so I got to work late yesterday. Walked into a mess of people thinking Saturday's memos didn't apply to them. Then just catching up this morning.

We're supposed to have the grandkids this weekend.

Started this an hour ago, so it's still busy.

Glad to hear all went well.

One eye is better than blind.

Afternoon All

Feeling better today. I have all body itchy skin for the last couple of days that I have been taking cold medicine. I took a Benadryl before I laid down for a nap and slept a couple of hours without itching which was very nice. It appears all the other symptoms are done. I need to catch up on the last 3 nights of poor sleep.

Louis- Thank you. Great looking motive power.

Terry- Good thing you caught it quickly.

David- Nice photos.

Willie- I hope the eye procedure went well.

Chad- Nice progress on the house.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Good evening. 71° and partly cloudy. 0.46" of "Surprise" rain this afternoon. High temperature 83° today.

Walked a mile outside, ran some trains, did some chores and missed my nap...

Oh, BTW, the Mets won...that's 3 Wins in the last 4 games... Figures, now that they are pretty much out of contention for anything but last place. In other news, Washington beat Boston, and Atlanta beat the Bronx team. Phillies beat Toronto, and Baltimore is LOSING to San Diego!

Not for nothing Terry, I never gave it a thought because the terminology you used is commonly used to describe the plan. But when presented the opportunity...:rolleyes:🤣.

the roofers seem to have gotten the north side "done". The south is still just roofing paper but there is some steel stacked on it. Hopefully they get the south side done tomorrow. They got a late start today due to the materials guys needing to finish I guess and needing to lift a bunch of steel strips (16" wide and up to 55 feet long more or less) up there.

Ah, rare pics indeed!

Not just one but two photos of the infamous "Panther 6" six-wheeler.
Some sources say there were only two Panthers ever built--one white, one black--but others said it was three. Obviously the latter group is correct--as anyone can see...<cough>...this is third: the infamous "Hy-rail" version.

And, as can clearly be seen, this still carries the original railroad paint scheme:
"Clear, clear, with clear stripes, clear tiger-stripes, and the newer, large clear herald.

Note too the reporting marks: 00000

Also worth noting: The photographer isn't actually there either. Just a shadow. Of something....
