Good morning, Happy Saturday. Back in the late '70s, when I lived in Bowie, MD, Saturday morning was the time when Metro DC tried to crowd into Hechingers, (Home Center). It was always better to go after lunch once everyone else was gone. The one I went to was somewhere around Landover or Ardwick....nothing was close to South Bowie. Eventually, I started timing my trips to weekends when I had the duty, and was driving home from SE DC. Then I would stop at the Benning Road store in the District. Damn, that was a long time ago!

Currently 77° and sunny. Going to 84°

I'm heading to my favorite electronics emporium in a bit to check out UPS systems. I have a really nice desktop computer that I'm afraid to use because of frequent power failures and surges here. I "thought" I had things figured out, that power issues would only happen around weather events like thunderstorms. I discovered I was wrong this morning when the power failed twice in ten minutes with a cloudless sky.
I have a nice laptop I can use, and have, so I don't ruin my (eye-wateringly-expensive) desktop, but it IS still a laptop.

As far as the graffiti on cars go, mine are either pre graffiti or post patch over.

TLOC,
Thanks for sharing about the railfanning. I've started doing some to learn more about trains in general, get modeling ideas, and frankly watching trains go by is just cool.

I've always been careful to stay on public property and haven't had any issues. Once a security guard at T&P station in downtown Fort Worth came by since it was between train arrivals, but he was quite friendly and we chatted for a bit while I waited for a UP train to finally get going. Good to know questions may be asked by RR police, although I agree it is surprising they'll go after railfans on public property over someone actually defacing railroad property and committing an actual crime.

I'd post about the temperature here today, but I know it's just awfully hot.🥵
You can also railfan at home on Youtube. I get a lot of weathering ideas this way. I mostly do CSX so I'll type in CSX railfanning and sit back and enjoy. I also click the like button for two reasons, one I'll know I've seen this one already and it helps the person who spent the time to video it for my enjoyment to say thanks.

Morning all,

At least barely morning.

Thunderstorm watch got me out of bed at 4:30a this morning. I was already awake, so it wasn't an issue. I'm taking care of dogs for the kids, so I had that to do before the thunderstorms hit. Rained pretty good on my way to the office.

80° and cloudy, but supposed to clear this afternoon. High of 92° expected. It will be much cooler that the past 4 days were temps were above 100°. High of 85° tomorrow and Monday. Supposed to get severe storms later tonight and into the overnight.

Server updates are working as they should. No big issues at this time and I should be out shortly. Even got another drive moved from the old server to the new. Just gotta get the rest completed as well.

Good afternoon. It's partly to mostly cloudy and 94.
I have a new neighbor, they moved in last week. They are completely clueless about what they need to do with their RV, including the fact they need to have a sewer hose hooked up and connected to the facility's waste water system. A lake of raw sewage under their trailer (next to mine), with all the visual and olfactory features you would expect, was the fist hint of trouble. They were swiftly corrected by management, so I don't have to have a chat with them that could go wrong.
Now that's been addressed, there's something else I am probably just going to have to live with. Where the husband parks his work truck is next to where I sleep. It's a work truck, so it's not something you're going to sneak out of town with. And he leaves for work between 4:30-5:00 AM daily, including Saturday. He starts the truck, lets it idle for a minute, then pulls out and heads to work. I',m a light sleeper, and I have been awake since 4:30-5:00 AM every day since they moved in. There's nothing for it, he's not doing anything obnoxious, so I'm just going to have to learn to live with it. I do have a set of noise-canceling headphones I'm going to try using, and see if that helps.

I've ordered a UPS, and it's supposed to be ready for pickup at 3 this afternoon.

Tom,
Thanks for the suggestion! I may do a bit of that going forward also especially while it feels like the surface of the sun outside this summer.

Afternoon All,

Had the 3rd night in a row of lousy sleep. I did a bunch of chores earlier and not much else today. I'm watching some really crappy movie on TV. We're going out to supper tonight with daughter's family.

Mikey- Happy Belated Birthday.🎂

Troy- What is all that in the second photo?

David- Great photos.

Joe- MOH and I met in 1977 and married in 1978 in Camp Springs, MD while we were stationed there in a Navy detachment. If I remember right, there was a mall in Landover and the Redskin stadium. I do remember running out of gas in a major intersection there.:(

Willie- Great looking grocery with all of your detailing.

TomO- Congrats on the "soft" move in.

Terry- They sound like crappy neighbors!:D

I hope everyone has a good night.

Good afternoon gang!

Lawn is done, lots of other chores too. Got the cordless saws charging for cutting homasote later. I've got to cut some thin strips to widen out a few areas for double track . Still need to buy another sheet to lay out the yards. Taking 5 minutes to rest and recharge myself before cleaning the cat box and a few other chores.

Terry, sounds like you need a MHOA.

Mikey, happy belated birthday!

Joe, I remember Hechinger's! The last one I remember going to was in Owings Mills, near the WM passed over Reisterstown Road. Damn that was a long time ago!

Apology to the Baltimore fans.
No worries, Troy. I'm not upset with Indianapolis or the Irsays. I blame Baltimore's mayor Schaffer and his lies (of course we will build a new stadium) and the Baltimore media's personal attacks (Headline; Fatso) on Bob Irsay.

John Steadman of the News American was a pompous ass! He and Bob Irsay did not like each other.

My experience was Bob Irsay was a nice man that loved to drink Scotch whiskey, Miller Lite beer, and lots of both! I did draft beer service (setup and maintenance) in his personal box. Every time I saw him, he "said "hello" and offered me food from his buffet.

I had tears in my eyes as I watched those moving vans on TV pulling out of the Colts' Owings Mills facility.

Curt: We moved to Bowie in September 1978. There was a very nice mall in Landover, (now defunct), and the Capital Center, where the Capitals and Bullets, (now Wizzards) played. That's where I became a rabid hockey fan. Back then, the Redskins played at RFK Stadium, on South Capital St, in the District. There was a long waiting list for season tickets. The Colts were still in Baltimore, at Memorial Stadium, where Louis was selling Beer. Bowie, back then, was nice, mostly populated by folks with GS ratings, more than a few Military, and a sizable contingent of Conrailers and Amtrakers. Of course, back then, we didn't have kids, so the issues surrounding PG County schools didn't matter. Now that Josh Harris is majority owner of the Washington Football Team, hot rumor is that the District is proposing to build a new stadium on the RFK site. They are not happy with the current location inside the Beltway in Landover.

I didn’t know Robert Irsay personally but I knew Jim who now owns the Colts. Jim was a golfer that played quite a bit at the country club I worked at. Later he took over the HVAC distribution company his dad had started. We belonged to the same Inventory organization when I was working in the real world. He always said that his dad had no choice but to move in the middle of the night. The city of Baltimore was supposedly going to use eminent domain to grab the team from the family. If true, I’d have moved the team too.

To add fuel to the fire, Indianapolis had a new stadium looking for a tenant. The television networks were looking to create a new local NFL market in Indianapolis. Pete Roselle was the facilitator, and Baltimore was the market deemed most expendable, given Green Bay's ownership makeup. Given that, the Colts days in Baltimore were numbered. Roselle made Irsay an offer he couldn't refuse, and he had to get out before Comrade Schaffer and his minions could seize Irsay's assets. Personally, as a Baltimore Colts fan, I hate seeing my team playing in Indiana, but from a business standpoint, I thoroughly understand why.
I feel the same way about the Philadelphia A's.... I was five when they left for the Midwest, (and are still a dysfunctional organization 70 years later) But again, there was no valid economic reason for the A's to remain in Philadelphia, especially when the other team was only four years removed from their last World Series appearance...
