I managed to survive another birthday. They seem to be coming closer together.
T had forgotten about it until I had to write a check to the annual termite inspection people this morning.
I only accomplished about 25% of what I had planned for today, including a new O scale structure kit.
Best part of the day was dinner with my daughters and their families. We dined on waffles and ice cream, followed by a few card games of Bull Sh*t.

Good Morning All. Clear and 84°. Highs in the 108°-110° range for a couple of days. It was 110° yesterday. Then the wind shifts Monday from the east and Monday and Tuesday we should only see 102°. Only 102°!!!o_O A 20% chance of rain has been put into Monday night's forecast, but that's because the NWS guy is bored.

Nothing special about yesterday, outdoor activity has mostly come to a standstill due to medical restrictions on lifting and exertion; and the heat. I may be caught up on the indoor "honey-do's" for now. Wife leaves this morning to attend a dance recital and to return the granddog. She'll be spending the night at the granddog's home since my daughter & family won't return until tomorrow sometime.
I thoroughly reread the doctor's post-op instructions yesterday. He permits showers but does not permit swimming. But he says nothing about wading! So as long as I keep my head above water, why not use the pool? Yesterday, I did. Water temperature dropped to 86° overnight and only got up to 89° yesterday, so it remains comfortable. Easy enough to keep my head above the water level, as it has no deep end. It's all ~52" deep, the bottom undulates some due to the ground shifting.
On the subject of cataract surgery, I am truly amazed at the difference in brightness and color between the "new eye" and the "old eye". I look at the freezer across the room with my left eye and I see a dingy slightly yellow tint object. With my right eye (the one that I had done), it is a bright white. I can almost read the computer screen without my "readers" with my right one. In the long run, the doctor said that I will probably need to use the "readers" for reading, which I don't mind. But I went 68 years without needing regular glasses and they still bother me.

Yesterday out in the train shed, I ignored the weeds that I had intended to add. They're still there waiting, maybe today or tomorrow. Instead, I picked up another of Chet's structures that suffered some damage during the removal and subsequent shipping to me. Some of the damage was done in the removal process as parts were taped to the base. Others were in the large box that everything was shipped in. Some parts I had to fabricate out of stripwood.
We're looking at Garner's Grocery and Meat Market, a laser-cut wood structure. It appears to be from American Model Builders, but I didn't look it up to confirm.

First thing that I didn't take a picture of, was straightening out the chimney that had gotten bent over at a 45° angle. I couldn't remove it; it was obviously super-glued in. I did get it straight and super-glued the s**t out of it so it would remain upright. Then I attacked the staircase. It's missing two steps, only one of which I found in the box. So I fabricated another from stripwood, and had a hard time matching the paint exactly. But I got close, (bottom one)..

Reattached some other trim that was out of place or had fallen off; added the awning and business sign back on and added a few trash barrels and a pallet out back.

I don't know exactly where it will go ultimately, but I have a good idea.

Mikey - Happy Birthday.
David - The latest cruise liner pictures are interesting to me, as I didn't realize that ships got that close to one another except when berthing.
Swal - Been meaning to ask, how's your wife doing?
Hughie - My wife needed that follow-up laser surgery in one eye only, about a year after her initial cataract removal. She says that she'll need it again in another year or two.

Of note to those who were around in 1969, today is Neil Armstrong's 82nd birthday. He's still taking small steps.
Everybody have a great day. If you live here in Texas, stay cool and hydrated.

Good morning from the deck of the about to be my business offices again. The new place is officially move in ready. Today will be Terry’s office and the last 2 bedrooms. It will be a happy day when the crew from Gorilla Movers (yep) are done and gone. Both the wife and daughter have swooned over the movers a few times over the last 3 weeks or so that they have moved stuff for us. Something about good looking, muscled college aged men they like! Who knew?

I am on the deck of the temporary home and since 2007 when we purchased this new to be used for college student rentals it just never did anything for me. It was exciting when we converted the duplex into our property management company’s main office but Covid and 2 kids who didn’t want our business killed that. It’s now a duplex again and while one side will become my offices for a new gig I am starting we are not sure if we want to rent out the other side! Terry agrees I need something to do besides trains to keep me busy and is endorsing my new adventure. All the supply chain issues, lying vendors and miscommunication on this house build got my business instincts flowing again. When I took over in April dealing with the suppliers it was frustrating but so satisfying at the same time. I am looking forward to what lies ahead. I have a business partner and for the 1st time since 1990 it’s not my wife or brother. Still some legal stuff to tie up but come September we should be in the swing of things.

I see the Mega Millions is still going. Maybe I’ll remember to buy a ticket, I forgot the last 2 drawings. Generational life changing to win $1.5 billion even after paying the taxes.

The house is approved. Sometime over the next 10 days the finished countertops in the kitchen will be installed along with the correct 2 sinks. The 2 small wind generators are up and have been tested but not approved by the house inspector who will do that after he returns 8/24. I am thinking maybe 3 more as the pools are really using up energy. Important to me but not the other household owner is my paint booth. HVAC guy is saying he’s now shooting for the 19th which leaves me in a minor pickle. But, as I mentioned before I have painted without a booth for years, a cardboard box in the garage and I’ll be ok. The golf simulator is almost right. Sometimes it has a flicker that it’s never done before. The tech will be here Monday. I will join my brother for the delayed golf outing in Nova Scotia on 8/14. He now wants to pick me up on the 11th though and play in a charity event with him on the 12th and 13th. I have never enjoyed the Boston area and really want to say no, but it’s for a charity and he’s family…

Enjoy the day
