Tom: Marias' Pass is a fun place and love it when I get there. Keep in mind that plans are tentative, ya never know what might shake out.

I could be me, but I just do not see any Aspen - you are looking at Fir in this one. Might be Red Fir although it is hard to tell from camera distance. Not Tammy/Larch. Nor any Scotch Pine which altitude may be at play with that. Note how all the tops are single and do not branch out to a canopy. From what I remember, Aspen's are in the nooks and crannies between hills, these are on the face. DaveLASM might tell us which brand of fir.

I get beach hazard warnings for Lake Ontario, problem is I'm on top of the escarpment same as the upper river of Niagara Falls. There would have to be 180' plus of water from the lake to be a beach hazard and a lot of homes below the escarpment would be under water.

Good morning... Last nice day before the rain and cold temps return. 80's will dip down to the 40's for a few then only in the low 60's the rest of the week.
So, we have to conclude that the NWS doesn't know what they are doing, or...are deliberately disseminating false or misleading forecasts...Or, perhaps they are trying to cover too vast an area. Years ago, when everyone lived in central cities and close in suburbs, their system might have worked, but now, I'm not so sure.

Morning all,

Gotta finish the closet in a bit. Already started the laundry and been out for the groceries. My now lone apple tree is in full bloom. We'll see if there's possibly a crab apple close enough for it to bear fruit. I suspect that's how it had the little fruit it's had due to the other trees blooming later.

Gotta get back to it...BBL

I was told those 8 skinny trunked trees in the foreground are Aspens! Maybe that’s why I am having issues re-creating the tree

Good Morning All. Clear skies and 44°, headed up to the mid-70's today. The rain has been removed from the forecast. Highs next week range from 87° on Thursday, to 68° next Sunday, or that's what the NWS guesses.

Idle thought: America seems to be quite preoccupied right now with a man pretending to be a woman, trying to sell us a beverage pretending to be a beer!

I continued my never ending task of mowing yesterday, this time on the north side around the train shed and pond. The growth is still the result of the 2" rainfall that we got on 4/2. It should slow down now since I finally did everything. Then I did something that I rarely do and that was wash the car at home. I also removed a 6' "volunteer" Hackberry tree that was too close to the driveway, prompted in part from either an Amazon Prime or Fedex truck hitting it this week. I didn't see it actually happen but the damage was obvious, and both came by at the same day. We were at the grocery store and both had left packages while we were gone. I also finished the first of two garden pathways. I'm irrigating right now, so the second one won't get done until Tuesday at the earliest.

I made it out to the train shed late yesterday and resumed the layout cleansing. Then I went for a switching scenario, but the locos I was going to use, a pair of GP38-2's just weren't running well. Over to the workbench they are going for a contemplated overhaul. These are at least 25 year old Blue Box Athearn locos that I have never upgraded. They still work OK for just running end to end on the layout, but not so good at the fine art of switching. They could be retired as I have too many locomotives for active use on the layout. There are 8 in the "dead line" already.
In the meantime, I looked around for my next large project while waiting to complete the south end of the Ethanol refinery. I found a likely candidate, the Propane distributor, in the corner behind the area that I just cleaned.

Some degree of difficulty leaning over to get to it, that wasn't an issue when I originally just filled it in six years ago. Another reason that I don't fasten most structures in place...they might need to be removed for projects like this.

Patrick - Thankfully my wife doesn't allow me to do any indoor painting. The outdoor stuff is no longer done by me, as she doesn't like seeing me up on top of the 20' extension ladder.
Louis - At least something good about Willy's current state, he lost a lot of weight.
Tom O - A pair of neat looking layouts.

Today is National Wear Your Pajamas to Work Day.
Everyone have a great day.

Thank you for asking. I wish I had some good news.
Depression has settled in over them both. Willy is waiting for a second surgery so that he can be fitted with a prosthetic. The problem is he refuses to get out of bed. He won't sit in the wheelchair or even sit up in bed. The medical people won't/can't help him if he won't try to help himself.
He has not broken the phone, which is something good. He is healthy. He is no longer diabetic. He only needs blood pressure medication. He has lost almost 200lbs. I offered to buy him all new clothes. Even old concert T-shirts from Amazon. If he would only get into the wheelchair. I'm at a loss for what I can do, other than pray.
LOUIS, I am sad for Willy, Wife, and YOU!
Depression can be very difficult to overcome. The old "been there, done that" ... when I had my colon cancer surgery back in 2015 and was stuck in the hospital for 18 days, (5 of them in isolation for what they thought was a "super bug") I reached a point where I just didn't care anymore! One day, There were 3 doctors at the foot of the bed secretly talking among themselves. At a six months later check up - the surgeon told me that they did not think I would make it. You guys came close to not having to put up with my BS!
I will certainly say a prayer for your friend.

So, while I have a bottle of said condiment, long ago I found a McCormick spice container of "Sriracha spice" -- a powered spice that was hot and vinegary and a very good additive to many things. A little went a long way. Eventually I thought it was all gone and wished I could find it again. I had gotten it at Costco long ago.
This is the only one for me; however,

Huy Fong Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce

I pretty much love any and all 'hot sauce'!
KATE brought me back three bottles of different kinds from Jamaica with varying degrees of hotness!
CHAD - I made a note to look for that McCormick one that you mentioned.

Maybe I am just weird, but I like to dip my fries in Chinese Mustard - the hot kind!

Good Morning!
I've just returned from the morning dog walk, where I enjoyed the cool air in the forest. There's always something to photograph in the forest. Today, I was able to capture deer and trees on the digital film.

TomO - I think you did a nice job on those Aspen you modelled. - It sounds like you're still looking for more photos, so I took a few for you today. Don't know if they will help:

And if you're going to model a stand of Aspen's in the boreal forest, you may as well throw in a deer:

Well, I don't have much to say today, other than I hope we all stay happy. If you're not happy, then make every attempt to get happy. Remember, we are all travelling along in this universe at 299,792,458 meters/sec.. Life is short, so make the best of it.

Thank you Guy. Those will again be helpful

I started renovating my old bathroom last week and had the plumber over to replace the old baseboard heat unit. I was surprised that he was without his normal helper. I said, where's your partner. He said, my partner decided he wanted to try the drug everyone talking about. He tried it and died last Saturday night. What drives people to do dumb stuff? I don't know.
