I made our traditional eat at home holiday meal

Frozen pizza and cheesy breadsticks

This is the Motor City brand, carried by our costco. Pretty yummy. I added sausage to the pizza, but there are plenty of toppings and cheese on both.

We had a 13lb Smithfield spiral sliced ham. I also smoked a turkey breast on the weber charcoal grill. Both turned out perfect. Damn I'm good! ;)

This morning my son told me on the phone his wife had made ham this week. Since she does not eat much meat, he had enough of ham recently.

My grandsons told me they are too old for Easter baskets. So, I filled one large basket with candy and colored hardboiled eggs. I dyed the eggs perfectly! :)

I joked with my boys "I guess you are too old for gifts?" Knowing we only give cash for Easter both said no!

It's always easy to see what we should have done.

I used to go to Pimlico. I'd spend $2-$10 per race and had an exciting time every time. I need to take my wife. She has never seen a race in person.

As you said, it's entertainment.
Louis I have a friend who owns racehorses and my cousin was a big-time jockey. My friend says the breakeven point is $36.000.00. Each horse has to earn 36K or he loses money on the horse. He has 3 horses. Another golf friend of mine wife's trains show horses. He tells me it cost the owners $52,000.00 a year to stable and train a show horse. There is no breakeven point with show horses. They win ribbons.
I normally bet more than $2.00 on a pick 5 but that day I got beat out of some skins on the golf course by someone who received a stroke on a hole that was bogus. I say to myself now that I got beat out of some skins I going to bet $2.00 on the Meadowlands pick 5 tonight and hit it. You have to pick the winner of 5 races in a row. I had the 1st 4 winners and if my horse had a chance to take one more step I would have don't it.

Good morning all. A dry start to the day, but rain is on its way.
When I was young and daft I used to 'back a horse or two'. I soon gave that up.

Morning fellers. Time to come out of the hollers for a moment. It's been awhile since I've last posted anything. I don't recall my last post. I'd like to stop by more often I just seem to lose track of time. Not t much going on in the train world. I've added to my fleet some. Not much else. I've been wondering about starting up a build. I just get caught up in something else. It would appear I just get lost in the daily grind more than anything. I don't have much else to report on. I'll share some of my new assets.

This was a Christmas gift from the wife. The C&O used a gulf tank car for fueling purposes. So I added one to my roster.

A bit out of date for me. Last photo I can find of an outside braced boxcar was in 1954 on the head end of a coal train. Modelers privilege in full swing. This is an accurail kit. I'm a sucker for kits.

For a change ebay finally produced a deal for me. I have been in the market for a red C&O caboose. Just wasn't feeling up to spending $40+ for one. Now two for the price of one I'll bite on. That does it for the new stuff. Hope everyone has good day.

Say there Justin, did you move as you said that you might in your last post? Glad to see you still alive and kicking.

Morning all,

Seems that work started off a bit rough today. That said it should slow down a bit now that the "emergency" has been resolved. Current 51° with a high of 83° later. No rain overnight.....but a possibility in the forecast.

Going to have a meet up with my oldest sister next Monday. She's 11 months my junior, so we're twins for about a month. She's moved to NW Arkansas, so she's closer and we haven't really had time to chat in a while. Her son's wedding last November didn't really give us any time to talk. Wife's going along to keep me in line.

Garden space coming along. I'm going to try to till the son's space and try to get mine a lot deeper as well.

Willie the move has been put on hold for the time being. We have found that there's more that needs to be done before we can move. Guess that comes with actually growing into a place. It helps that I have a company vehicle to commute to work. All things told it's not what we wanted to have happen but it is what it is. Sometimes life has a way of putting the brakes on an idea.

They're at the starting gate ... and they're off with 'Thrown Shoe Nellie' in the lead!
Good Day from the West! Starting at a more decent temp of 53f and looking for 83f later ... actually reached 89f yesterday - the Spousal Unit is complaining already!
Supposed to be Clear and Sunny with variable winds.

The Spousal Unit got into horses - with her three girls - so for four plus years we were broke!
These weren't just everyday horses ... they were ex race horses and jumpers and they were not cheap to start with - plus the "duillie" P/U and three horse trailer to tow around to all the shows and competitions. I have now developed a very strong DISLIKE for horses. My son, who lives in Arizona, and his wife LOVE horses and probably sleep with theirs. NO THANKS - Don't want anything to do with horses anymore -- not even go to a race!
At least - as Kate says now - It was worth it as it kept them "off the streets and out of the bars"!
I'll give her that - they have all grown into wonderful adults - and I still have the Student Loans to prove it!
There - I've said my piece!

Well,

Vendor can't figure out why OUR system can't run his software properly. In his installer is a port number and a test button beside it. I watched him for 3 hours last week banging his head on the issue, excepting the defaults. My supervisor email me with the vendor complaints the our system was screwed up and he needed access...these were left on Friday after we had left for the day. I actually took 5 minutes and did what the vendor did in the setup, except I clicked the test button and it said the port was in use. Changed to a different port number and clicked the test, it said I could use this port, 1 minute later the particular piece is up and running, just need to complete the remainder of the configuration. I love fixing vendor induced problems on vendor software.

Good Morning All. Cloudy and 53° at this location, going up to the mid-70's later today with a chance of sunshine later on. A carbon copy of yesterday and what seems like a precursor to the rest of the week.
Time today to catch up on stuff that I missed doing yesterday. Gone the whole day. After Mass we traveled to Dallas for the family Easter lunch at my brothers home. Here's a partial picture of 37 people looking for Easter eggs in his backyard. Couldn't get everyone in the same picture!
20230409_120650.jpg

After the festivities there, we headed over to my eldest daughter's home and everyone relaxed in the hot tub except me who took a nap with the dogs. Meanwhile SIL #1 (center left with arm raised in picture above, talking to my sister #1), was smoking a couple of racks of ribs while Sil #2 (bright shirt walking towards left on other side of pool above), brought over a brisket that he smoked earlier in the day.
OK Sherrel, there's Arlene in the pink top third from the left, daughter #2 in the green dress just to her right. i won't bore anyone with the rest of the folks in that picture. Behind my daughter you can see one of those commercial ice boxes that used to be at every convenience store and gas station, (before the glass door ones). He uses that for condensing the alcohol in his still, and for cooling his pool water (2000' of PEX hose in there) during the summer!
Meanwhile the brisket and ribs were both delicious and I gained two pounds throughout the day. My grandson awed everyone at the egg hunt with his drone, peeking into neighbors backyards around my brother's house.

No train shed time yesterday. But this is the holdup on doing any continued work on the Ethanol refinery. I need another grain elevator like these.

I have a lot of leftover bits and pieces, but not the head. Somehow the grain has to get from the unloading shed to the silos.

Swal - Back in the 60's we had a police car parked in front of the church every Sunday before and after the 10:00 Mass. But it was different back then, as he was directing traffic on the street out front, letting parishioners in and out of the parking lot. That was our most popular Mass time of the 9 Masses every Sunday. He was actually tithing his time there so his 8 kids could attend our school. Note that my Dad sent bottles of Scotch to the rectory as part of his tithe! Monsignor was pretty acceptable to bartering.

Everybody have a great day.

Willie last night for the first time ever AXS TV had Journey on. It was their 1981 concert in Huston Texas. They were good. After that they had the top 10 B side hits. Can you name any of them?
Swal
First, a comment on Journey. I actually liked them much better before Steve Perry joined the band. Their first three albums were primarily instrumental albums with sparse vocals.
B-sides? I'll have to rack my brain. Most of what I know represents activity from the 60's and early 70's; after that I mostly concentrated on albums. here's a few. The first one is one that I just know about without having experienced the hype. It's Elvis and Hound Dog which was the B-side to Don't be Cruel. Both were great songs.
Gloria by Them was the B-side to Baby Please Don't Go, another example of two great songs. It was made famous in the US by The Shadows of Knight.
God Only Knows was the B-side of Wouldn't it be Nice for The Beach Boys.
The Beatles had a couple to my knowledge. I am a Walrus was the B-side of Hello Goodbye; and Strawberry Fields was the B-side of Penny Lane. Something and Come Together was actually issued as a double A-side record.
Model Railroader Rod Stewart's hit Maggie May was a B-side, I don't remember what was the A-side.
The Rolling Stones Ruby Tuesday became a hit when deejays across America didn't want to offend anyone with the A-side Let's Spend the Night Together.
Queen had one with We Will Rock You, and We Are the Champions, but I don't remember which was A-side and which was B-side. On the album, they were segued together.
I know that Fleetwood Mac had one as well, but I don't remember the particulars.

That's 8. How well did I come to their list?

Very good Willie you named a lot of the B side hits. Next Sunday AXS TV has Queen in concert.

Split screen keyboard on the IPadPro this morning!

Good morning from Wisconsin. Back from the grocery run just to get some Califlower for tonight. The HyVee had it at $4.99 per head but she said no. We ended up at Pick&Save (Kroger) where it was $3.49. Soda is basically 3 for $15 for 6 packs of bottles. I will not pay that.

Trains later

Edit: Had to do a search to turn the split keyboard off.

Easter was good, the food and atmosphere along with family was excellent. Been to the grocery stores this morning. I did my 2 mile walk at 6:30, Terry is heading out for hers now. I said ok for an afternoon ride on the critters, I think to keep the piece. I missed the charity riding on Easter afternoon and there seemed to be a residual effect last night.

I am going to test out the grill this afternoon. I have 12 burgers made to grill and freeze. It wasn’t heating up enough the last time I used it a few weeks ago, but it was in the teens atmospheric temperature wise. I think with the temps in the 60’s and 70’s it should be fine. I told Terry it’s a 2 burner and not the six burner I could light up at the old house.

have a great day
