PATRICK -- YOU AND I NEED TO GO BACK TO SCHOOL on YARD watering systems!
Apparently we dozed off during that lesson.
You and I seem to have the most trouble keeping a system running, or should I say stopping?
School of hard knocks...lol Basic plumbing, no biggie, but I just don't like trying to work through a 10" meter cover hole. I have 5 zones covered by 2 distribution boxes. Both reused water meter covers from other towns.

TomO: Totally agree on the borrowing of money. While not paid off quite yet, the house is all we still owe money on. We have 6 months worth of the bills in the bank and some extra emergency money as well. While it is tighter now that the wife has retired, we still have enough to be comfortable. And I also gave up on buying soda. I usually end up getting it on tap at a local convenience store when I want one. I also noticed some weight loss once I quit drinking it as much.

WILLIE - JUST FOR YOU --
This morning I made myself a reminder soes I want be messing up Jolene's spiling again.

Opps - gotta reverse the pic - Hmmm!

Happy Easter Egg today - Remember what the day is in remembrance of;
as LOUIS says: God Bless Us All!

Happy Easter all,

Its another beautiful day in Northern Illinois! currently 43 degrees going up to 67 degrees, with bright blue sky full of sunshine.

Family is coming over for a late lunch and some visiting. My Sister is up from Texas, so it will be nice to see her.

Have a great safe day all!

Good Morning All!

38F @ 74% and overcast

Happy Easter!

Did not have any problems getting all the stuff up and operational yesterday - how did that happen? Still have to do the small mower and the pressure washer; those should be pretty easy. Also, the PoulanPro has a low tire that I did not notice, so deal with that.

Gonna start cutting the Cottonwood into 5' - 8' chunks; building a pile of them in the middle of nothing for burning. Found out from the neighbor he has a big pile of bark and Larch pieces that he wants gone, so I told him to use our burn pile if he wishes. Don't know how much we will get done before May 1st, but it don't matter as we have all summer to gather for burning next year.

Talking to the neighbor I found out that the property next to him sold ( $500K ) and the new owners want to do a B&B. They plan to build 5 or 6 cabins West of the house/shop near the creek. We do not really want them there because of the traffic it will bring, but have to deal with it. Can't wait for them to try and get insurance on those little cabins as they will be in the flood plain. No septic can be put in, and the power company will not run power out to them. We kinda think they did a 'Woops' and don't realize it yet. Oh, and prior to the China Virus, that house was on the market for $200K. Big shop, not so big house. It is in the County so water from its well; not sure about sewer/septic as the neighbor thinks that they are connected to City Sewer.

Don't eat too many eggs and ham!

Good Morning All. Happy Easter Sunday. Cloudy here and 54°, mid 70's today and the rest of the week, maybe more sunshine by Tuesday.

The family Easter celebration is today, but a lot less people than usual, just 37 are expected. The usual sit-down dinner has been left in the past and it will be just light sandwiches, drinks and Easter Eggs. Unfortunately my siblings and in-laws are no longer young and spry, so some traditions are waning. It's tough hosting a dinner for in many cases 45+ people. I'll miss a good part of it since the hearing aid center has not located and returned my "ears". I've gone from being deeply disappointed to thoroughly pissed. And no call. I don't know whether they lost them or it's just taking longer to repair than they expected. Add to that they are not open on Mondays and I have a doctor's appointment on Tuesday that's earlier than they open. I see a lot of "What's that?" in the next three days.:mad::mad:

Out in the train shed yesterday, I resumed cleaning structures. I did get the diner up easily as it appears that I used repositionable glue instead of something else. Here are the next two structures in the line. Superior Auto Body and Prairie Coop grain elevator.

I also did these three structures that are just tentative structures occupying space for now.

Next in line is an unnamed backdrop industry.

Should be easy since there's only two dimensions.

Guy - While I agree that taking my wife along for my walks would do her good, it ain't ever going to happen. First, our pace is not equal and that is annoying enough. Secondly while I walk 1-1.25 miles on a normal walk, her walks at best, even on a good day might come to 350 yards. We could probably both leave at the same time at our normal pace and I would get far ahead, but would probably be able to catch up with her on the return leg.
Swal - Likewise here on paying off debt. My house and land were both paid off by 1995, 20 years before retirement. But then it was time to put three kids through college. My retirement savings took a major hit in 2009 that took a few years to recover.
Tom O - I like your description of "fake scientists called Economist". One doesn't need to look any further than AOC to realize this.
Tom - Thanks for the picture of the car readers.
Joe - Like the lyrics to the song that Troy posted:
That you don't know what you got 'til it's gone?
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot

Everybody have a great day on this magnificent occasion.

Good morning all! Hope each and every one of you have a Happy Easter, or Passover or Ramadan. So far it looks to be a beautiful day here, temps in the upper 60's, sunny and a lower than usual humidity. We are expecting a few of the g-kids and gg-kids to drop by this afternoon.

In the train room, I did some track cleaning and then ran some locos that don't see a lot of run time.

I've got one of the cheap plastic spray booths that works fine, but is just a little too small for my taste. I've been looking for decent designs on building one from scratch. Found this one and thought it interesting. Mine will probably be from leftover lumber I've got on hand, not cardboard.

But this video shows that even cardboard is a decent material.

start with short bursts so you add thin layers of paint that build up a water[roof surface,if you start wet and heavy ityour a break you could. Are the cardboard so wet it collapses

The gent who did the cardboard booth coated it with house paint/primer with a sponge roller both inside and out. That keeps it wipe-up cleanable, and no worries of saturation.

And, after years of using cardboard boxes to catch overspray from rattle cans out in the garage, you just need tougher boxes if yours is collapsing. The first few coats of spray add some surface to the box. Rain is more of a problem if you forget and leave it outside. Don't ask how I know that. ;)

When we did shares my other half took the same attitude, don’t bet what you cannot afford to lose.
I bet $2.00 on the Meadowlands pick 5 the night I almost won $14.000.00 and got beat by 2 inches in a photo finish. I was thinking about betting $4.00 to include the horse that beat me out but decided against it. That was one the dumbest ever moves I made betting the horses. I said I'm going to hit the pick 5 tonight with only a $2.00 bet and stuck to it like a dope.

It's always easy to see what we should have done.

I used to go to Pimlico. I'd spend $2-$10 per race and had an exciting time every time. I need to take my wife. She has never seen a race in person.

As you said, it's entertainment.

When I was still married, we lived in South Africa, my ex had a job as the PA to the CEO of Gold Circle (they own and run all the racecourses and betting shops in South Africa). Every year there was an awards ceremony, Top Trainer, Top Jockey, Best Horse etc.etc. All the top brass would attend along with lot's of Politicians, some African Royalty and Sports Personality's and I would attend, along with the ex.

It was always an amazing event and I met some amazing people like Hansie Cronje (South Africa's Cricket Captain), Francois Pienaar (South African Rugby Captain who won the Rugby Cup in 1995), along with Nelson Mandela (President of South Africa), Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Mangosuthu Buthelezi (leader of the Inkatha Freedom Party), and a host of others, all were amazing people in their own right.

We diverted out gutters to IBC and then move water via hosepipes, old IBCs are useful for all sorts
getting grey water for gardening, and off stable roof, have been used a baby cages, and other uses but no pictures
