This is one of the reasons I retired at 62 1/2. I haven't had to listen to anyone's bull for 14 years now and I'm so happy I made that decision. One of the reasons I could do this is I paid off all our debt before retiring. Our country keeps on bowering money. The US can never retire. As I said in one of my other posts. When I was 14 my father told me not to get in involved in bank loans or play the horses. I took his advice on the first one. Maybe he should have been president. We wouldn't owe China any money.

Debt and inflation

If you listen or read the fake scientists called Economist many will tell you that inflation is not as bad as we think. Inflation helps reduce the National debt or some such nonsense like that. These are folks ( are not labeled left or right, just as an Economist) that I guess must not shop at the grocery store or buy gasoline for vehicles. Do they not realize we are financing a country’s war and that is money we will never get back? Do they not see the unbelievable profits being made by large multinational companies? Here in the main liberal area of Wisconsin being so close to the UW Madison the media put these know nothing of the real world on TV a lot to explain things and especially lately the economy. As I used to tell Terry before she became an administrator in a school district, get your ass out of the supply closet at school and see the real world. No I never got lucky after those type of comments…

I know we have had a couple discussions here in 2022 about, loans, credit cards, mortgages and debt in general. Of course in our 20’s and 30’s we had credit card debt, the mortgage and living not quite but close to paycheck to paycheck. But we also didn’t take 2 or 3 vacations a year away from home.

Things are so different now! I have a neighbor, both in their 50’s that were telling me last month how tough it has gotten since Covid. The drudgery of HAVING to go back into the office and the 15% raise last year wasn’t enough and both of them are searching for new jobs. This morning she came over with the keys to the house, they are going to Florida for 2 weeks. Disney World and a couple other parks in Orlando, a few days in Sarasota and then they will drive a rental car back wandering around after flying down. Stupid me, reminded her of last weeks discussion on how they were broke and couldn’t go out for dinner anymore. Answer, switched credit cards for a different rate and transferred the debt to the new card. They are using the new card for this trip.

Afternoon All,

I have some free time, so I decided to post...lucky devils.;) All the prep is going as expected with family and friends arriving around 4 pm and eating about 5 pm. While doing things around the house I have been listening to IHeart radio on the TV. I listen to a station out of Charleston SC. I like them better than our local rock station except weekday mornings when there is a group of idiots yucking it up until about 10 am.

Sherrel- Great photo. I bet they cut a wide swath on the ship.

David- Nice pictures.

Guy- Nice photos. Although I can't tell new locomotives apart those are definitely showing their age.

Christian- More action on the CCRR. I think you have reached max train length.

TomO- You are correct. Mismanaged credit turns you into an indentured servant.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Tom - Hmmmh! Car readers! Thanks for putting that idea in my head. That would make a fine detail addition to my layout.
Sample.

Tom I'm playing the horses at Aqueduct today something my father told me not to do and I'm not doing very well so far.
I got the Grand Slam going we'll see how that goes? We spend way less than the money we take in every year. I started paying off debt 10 years before I retired and what a relieve it was not to owe anyone anything.

Good afternoon everyone.

Gorgeous day in Northern Illinois. Its in the mid 60 and a very light breeze. Was out earlier doing some Easter prep for tomorrow's family feast. Were hosting this year. Ran to the store, and CVS. Had to get a card, we have a wedding to attend next weekend. ☹️ Wife had the Ham baked and resting on the counter when I returned. I carved it and threw it in the crock pot for warming tomorrow. A few pieces fell on a plate for my lunch.

Have a great rest of the day all!

Well it cant be as bad as the economists say .My son spends a month in flordia every year he has his own business I suppose that helps. The economists will only tell you what they want you to hear.

Never played the horses but over the years lost tons on playing golf and commodities. I wish dad had warned me about the commodities markets

Good afternoon. It's mostly cloudy and 87.
The power went off about 10 minutes after I got home from work.
It's hot in the trailer, but hotter outside.
Hopefully power will be restored shortly. It appears to be just the RV park, as FPL says everything is hunky-dorey.

It bugs me that the government wants to raise the debt ceiling again. Stop borrowing money. Let everyone in the country know you have to go out get a job and be useful to somebody. Get off the drugs and whatever else you're on and go to work. Going to church may help.

We lost a house 90s, getting back on horse required a massive deposit, we have financed a car or two, but paid mortgage asap for hearts ease, and we have not had debts for a long time, self sufficiency drive because of the fear of Brexit set us up for Covid and the Russian attack on Ukraine, I personally think if we don’t support Ukraine life will get nasty but can’t deny supporting it could cause nasty anyway, the right thing is to support them, the sanctions have reduced Russian threat but China has been playing a long game, and
North Korea want south korea
china wants Taiwan and hates Japan and us
russia wanted a 2nd ussr their armaments other than nuclear are appalling now
indian is scared of Pakistan and is surrounded by ussr China and Pakistan leaving them in a dangerous position
we have reduced our billings, turned to alternatives elec/solar heating/cooking/hot water/woodburner (4) ev Tesla/solar water has grey back up and emergency treatment, we have loads of perennial food and polytunnel for drying wood growing food, the other Hal’s pension looks good on paper if the world does not go to hell in a basket, we are in a quiet village, I would bug in not bug out. Hopefully we have a quiet end to our days.and modelling, gardening and other hobbies are enjoyed to the fullest until we turn to dust - from old age not a nuke!

Power is back on after about 3 hours. Now that I have power, I opened the fridge and grabbed some stuff to make supper.
I'm sure everybody here is smart enough to know this, but your fridge will remain cold for many hours without power, as long as you don't open the doors.

They told us yesterday the patio door glass is 6-8 weeks out or this week if they just replace the door and frame.
Maybe they could just take the glass out of the new frame and install it in the old one. In my 43 years in the window and patio door business, I found that most patio doors all use the same standard size tempered glass, regardless of the manufacturer. A 6068 door uses 34" x 76". Of course spacer size varies in different manufacturers insulated units.
