Sherrel- I hope you realize that many of us really do not have words of comfort in situations like this.
I personally just do not know what to say other than you have my deepest sympathies.
I have a 98 yo MIL ( who is like a mother to me) that I will have to face the loss when she passes.
Thanks for sharing this difficult time with us so we can help with your grief.

Hi, again.

Sherrel - I'm saddened by the news your MIL has passed. Hope you are ok. - In an effort to try and make you feel better, know that I will never feel your pain. My pain will be worse. The women in my life who is filling the roll of MIL will never go away. She is a demon, and does not fit into the category of being a human. Then again, if she ever does make it to her last legs, I'm going to take that opportune time to try and borrow some money off her.

Guy - Those Mule Deer seem to be rather docile. The White Tailed Deer in my neighborhood take off immediately when they see or hear anything, especially a dog. I have been able to silently sneak up on them before for a picture.
Willie - Mule deer are not naturally as sliddish as a White-tail. Let you in on a secret, though. The Muley's I photograph are nearly tamed. At night, they stroll onto peoples yards to eat the flowers and ornamental bushes. They are very used to people walking their dogs, and seem to know if a dog is leashed.
I always try to take a photo making it look like the deer are in the wild. Frankly, though, it's easier to take the photos with homes in the background. One night I counted 23 deer in my front yard. Most flowers don't stand a chance, and folks try to buy the flowers deer don't like. I've never seen a tulip flower make maturity in Whitecourt.

Just so I can say I posted a photo. Here are a couple of books I bought, to help teach me to paint a background for the layout.

To be seen if my plan will work.

Have a great day.

Afternoon All,

Feel better than yesterday but still not 100%. This morning I did some chores then cleaned steam locomotive wheels. All locomotive wheels have been cleaned. I'll start on freight car wheels tomorrow. I took some photos of the finished lighting around the engine service facility. I should of waited until it was darker but Que Sera, Sera.

Sherrel- Deepest sympathies to you and your family.

Jaz- Nice layout scenes.

James- I wish you the best fighting off Covid.

Joe- Our oak pollen season is long gone here. Mom had 3 insurance policies. The smallest one required the most paperwork from Dad. I have white metal switch machines to simulate reality but haven't put them in yet.

IB Ken- I'm glad that you got everything working. I had something similar today. I turned on the layout to move locomotives around the TT for cleaning but the control boxes stayed dead. What fresh hell is this? After thinking a couple of minutes I pushed the power strip on/off that the bridge motor runs off of (mounted so you can't see the switch). Guess what, it was turned on!. I don't know how it was turned off. o_O

TomO- Prayers for your brothers G/F.

Guy- Thank you. Great wildlife photos (or maybe not so wild).

Greg- The animated fire truck will be cool.

Patrick- Nice job on the wall. Mabe some vegetation and rocks would help. Maybe even a rock fall.

Terry- I'm very sorry to hear that your wife needs to go to a nursing home. That really sucks.

Willie- Nice looking church.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Good Morning! With an almost perfect crescent moon perched in the SE morning sky. It's gonna be a good one!

Joe - The switch throws just fine; half a throw and the Peco snaps into place. My test tank car runs it good, but, I suppose a running train will be the real test. - The lichen; we call it Beard Lichen. Perhaps they call it 'Spanish' down your way. I'm sure there are 100's of different kinds of lichen, though.

Smudge - I sure would like to see a photo of the coach, which would be called a bus around here.

I'll be working on a different way to mount ground throws today. I cut and stained some 5/8" spruce sticks to see what a different style of base looks like. I'm not quite happy with a pair of sticks running parallel to each other as a base. If the results look any good, I'll take a photo.

And the site seems to be acting up again. Maybe I'll be back later, when the site's not doing funny things. Have a good one!
This was my ride for today, she's an old girl, but still runs like new. The side panel that isn't white had to be replaced over the weekend, previous driver wanted to know how close he could get to someone's tow hitch, too freaking close it seems.

Smudge - That don't look like no 'fishbowl' to me. You probably need an astronaut license to drive it.

Curt - What did you use as the very first base on the plywood, before any vegetation foams and such. Is that natural earth?

I've settled on this look for mounting future ground throws off the cork on my layout:

I wanted a more-or-less real looking mount that would allow for ballasting without covering up all the timbers.

It's glued down now, so it is what it is.

Have a good evening!

...And the hits just keep coming.
5 minutes after I posted the above, my landlord showed up, and let me know he was raising my rent.
Even with the increase, it's still only $750/mo, including water/sewer/trash, so I shouldn't complain. It could have happened at a better time, though.
With the utilities included, and thanks to the Ukraine war with Russia and the subsequent loss of Ukraine wheat, sunflower oil etc, and the Russian sanctions upping coal,gas,petrol/diesel your landlord could just be covering his costs or expected , hopefully she will be close enough for you to visit easily.
The price you state is as good as a one room, so it seems madness not to retain it, I expect you cannot sub contract to help cover the costs

Still not sure what to do with any water. Could be a dry wash, muddy stream or clear stream. Most all of the prairie streams tend to run muddy. What opinions do you guys think?

Did some track work and based on info you guys have passed along, finally have my E7 6 axle engines working in any direction on the inner loop. I also had to lube the gears on on of the engines. Kind of noisy and of course it's on the harder truck to lube. I just need to finalize the landscaping and finish the track over the bridge.

Hopefully I'll get some time tomorrow.
i think the build up of colour is working, the texture is adding interest, the darker tones at the end are adding more depth. I would work on the nearby areas first to see how to finalise the colouring etc, do you have some photographs of options, I like the wet look finish although a small puddle might emphasise its water roots

SMUDGE - Amazing! How you guys maneuver those buses around some of the narrow British carriageways always was a joy to watch. Getting from Gatwick A/P to our St James Park Hotel was an interesting experience each and every time.
Thanks, once you've got used to the weight, height, width and length it's really not that hard. I enjoy doing it, everyday is a challenge, but I have lost a few mirrors over the years. 🤣

His stated reason was increased insurance and utility costs. He hasn't raised the rent in over a decade, so I won't complain about that, but his timing really sucks...

Sherrel sorry for loss, sympathies to the girls, but they had tried several times to be there in this event,as previously mentioned hopefully for them the fact you were able to be there will be a comfort to them.
I had run to see my mum, then she seemed ok, then when she went downhill again my brother decided to not ‘bother me’, especially as my and my husbands employers had whinged about us going to see her, so I was not there when she passed,I had a lot of angst about it at the time, so was not even 6o, and frankly the hospital messed up.
If she was aware. I am sure your presence was a comfort, don’t let the girls beat them selves up.
