Good evening.
We got the official Word that our appeal was approved, and my wife can stay in the nursing home. I'm now saddled with the unpleasant task of finding a permanent nursing home for her, and jumping through all the needed hoops for her to do so. I'd hoped to be able to pull up websites of available places, with reviews, online, so we could peruse them, and choose what is best for her. Naturally, that can't happen. Every place only has a spot to fill out my contact info, and all her info, and "they'll contact you".
When it's all over, I will be alone in a 3 bedroom house with multiple outbuildings on a relatively large tract of land to take care of. Since it's a rental, I can always say "f it", and move, but the rent is cheaper than for a 1 bedroom apartment. So, I'll probably stay, and close off some of the rooms I don't need.

...And the hits just keep coming.
5 minutes after I posted the above, my landlord showed up, and let me know he was raising my rent.
Even with the increase, it's still only $750/mo, including water/sewer/trash, so I shouldn't complain. It could have happened at a better time, though.

Terry: Life sucks, don't it? I'm sorry to hear about Marie. I was hoping she could come home, with a visiting nurse a couple times a week, or something like that. Hope and pray things work out for y'all.

One thought, are you getting any assistance from the Social Worker at the Nursing Facility? They are tasked with assisting you with finding a "appropriate" facility that will meet her needs. They cannot just dump this on you, as they know the ins and outs, while you may not.

Joe, the silence from everyone has been deafening. I seem to have to go to (insert facility) in person, and cause a scene, before anybody will lift a finger to do anything. I had requested Monday off, so I could bring my wife home, but I probably should make the rounds, and let them know they need to do their jobs.

Social worker at temp home should be helping you find permanent placement. My sister who's responsible for our mom works in HR at a nursing facility group and was fortunate to have one of the local social workers to her find mom a good home 1000 miles away (closer to the rest of the family).

Evening gang!

It's been a long day. I managed to still be productive at home while in quarantine etc. I do not feel great but it's not the worse I have ever been either. Not even close thus far.

I did get my Big Boy in today! So there is some excitement there! I also got my steal of a deal Norscot D9Ts in which usually runs minumum 50 bucks each. I got (2) of them for 35 each. Great deal and details on these. It includes an operator inside the cab! These will go great with my Caterpillar dealership on the layout.

I worked on my boat and changed the oil, oil filter, gas filter, 4 spark plugs and pulled the prop. Then changed the lower unit oil as well. She's ready to go. All 5 batterries are topped off and charged. The season awaits me. I am tired but happy that I was able to accomplish some things.

Resting now and will hit the sack early. I will post picks on the RPO of the forementioned items.

Ya'll take it easy. I gotta go drink some more juice and water.

Good evening Shop Dwellers!

Ken: Is it possible to by-pass the circuit breaker to get train up and running?

Greg
Greg - there actually never was a problem with the PSX; the toggle switch controlling it was the culprit! Because I was already stressed by all the other problems that were cropping up during testing of the trains, I forgot that if the circuit breaker was the problem, it would have had a bottom light but no top light. No lights means there was no power getting to it.

BTW - the toggle switch problem, and the malfunctioning turnout issue I was dealing with when it appeared - both of those have been resolved. I did several test-runs of the trains earlier this evening and everything went fine! 👍 👍

Good Night - and have a Pleasant Tomorrow!

Morning People.
Another exciting day, back to the grindstone for me after my two week holiday.
First job back, is taking 30 odd old(er) folks on a ramble to the hills and dales of Derbyshire, drop them off drive some 20-30 minutes, (usually to a pub) and wait for them to turn up some 2 or 3 hours later, drive somewhere else and do the same again, the anticipation is overwhelming some days doing this job. I quite like these kind of jobs tho', no rushing around.
Downside, narrow country lanes, just wide enough for my vehicle, and always some numb nuts coming the other way at speed, who, somehow, fail to see an 8' wide 40' long and 12' high white coach, really, ah well, I'm bigger than you, so they'll have to reverse the 1mile to the passing lay-by, There are days I like my job.

Bnsf, hope you get everything sorted out.

Enjoy your day.

Good morning - kinda.

BLI Gopack should arrive today for the 4-6-2! Wifeykins leaves tomorrow for a business trip, so tomorrow evening I will solder that in. BLI's videos make it look a fairly easy procedure. Other than that, some maintenance on the layout and of course, ops! I will leave Wednesday to join said wifeykins in Dallas at the Gaylord for the second of her business conferences. Anniversary (38 yrs) is Thursday, so we will be together.

Today? Quiet one, methinks. Youngest dau leaves for her tree week guide dog training in Michigan today. We had her birthday dinner last night. Spring-green risotto and grilled salmon. Was nice and fun. Still fiddling with my design of the industry interior of the layout. Had a good idea and stopped by a LHS to see if they any more Walthers/Shinohara #2 or #2.5 wyes. They do!

Good morning from my little part of Wisconsin. Yesterday hit 82f degrees with a steady 15mph breeze but gusting into the high 20’s. Today the winds will remain mostly steady but running between 25 to 30mph. The apps have not mentioned any gust numbers. High today will be mostly seasonal only into the 60’s.

Started into the train room around noon yesterday when the granddaughter asked if I wanted to swim. So I almost made it there for train activity. I went in after dinner with the g/d and Terry to the slot car track. Maybe the trains and I can meet up today. The g/d and Terry are down at the stables already. The grandson’s hockey team got destroyed yesterday about 9-1. When they Facetimed her mom last night her brother was sleeping but he daughter says he’s pretty dejected. 2 break always but didn’t score on either. She agreed with me that this team and coach are not prepared for this step up in competition. Next week In Minnesota could really get ugly. The team that they lost to 9-1 got beat badly in a tournament last week by 3 teams the grandson’s team is scheduled to play Thursday and Friday this week.

The brother said the girlfriend was comfortable with some occasional pain killers yesterday. I asked how he was and said he’s ok. Normally he says he’s great or something because he never is negative. But said this past 6 weeks with selling, then packing up a house, finding Nicole has cancer has taken a toll on him. I said good it proves you care!

Marie and her care, it is easy for us to have all the answers but Terry I hope you get some peace of mind soon regarding your wife’s care. Nothing seems to be adding up but keep pushing those folks

SteveJ, is the Gaylord in Dallas part of company that has the Gaylord in Nashville? If so, you will never have to leave the resort. 1st class.

Everyone, I am not sure where I am heading in the train room or even if I want to be in there. I feel now that I have to, but with that doubt I am avoiding it. Terry suggested after she leaves this afternoon that I go in and take down my SAD (seasonal afftective disorder) light walls and move the chair out. While it was my happy place for February and March it maybe be part of the blockage now.

I promised I’d ride with the girls around 11 this morning. The hockey player and his parents arrive home around 3, Terry catches her flight at 5 with the soninlaw/daughter to Phoenix. They will stay at the same hotel the brother and g/f are at so that will help the brother out some. The sister and our son are flying in Monday morning. The driving school starts at 5pm Monday afternoon. I have both grandkids and the twin sitters show up around 6 for bbq and will overnight with us till Wednesday. I really don’t need the help but it will be good and give me time to relax. So a full plate for the next 3-4 days for me.

Enjoy
TomO

Good Morning! With an almost perfect crescent moon perched in the SE morning sky. It's gonna be a good one!
Commenting on the Ground Throw, (aka switch stand), and the PECO switch. Looks good as is. How does it work?
Joe - The switch throws just fine; half a throw and the Peco snaps into place. My test tank car runs it good, but, I suppose a running train will be the real test. - The lichen; we call it Beard Lichen. Perhaps they call it 'Spanish' down your way. I'm sure there are 100's of different kinds of lichen, though.

an 8' wide 40' long and 12' high white coach
Smudge - I sure would like to see a photo of the coach, which would be called a bus around here.

I'll be working on a different way to mount ground throws today. I cut and stained some 5/8" spruce sticks to see what a different style of base looks like. I'm not quite happy with a pair of sticks running parallel to each other as a base. If the results look any good, I'll take a photo.

And the site seems to be acting up again. Maybe I'll be back later, when the site's not doing funny things. Have a good one!

Good morning from out here! Supposed to reach 87f today after being in the mid 60's for the past several days. It seems that summer cannot quite make up it's mind.

It happened: The MIL passed 2:30 AM Saturday morning. Everyone was pretty well worn out yesterday and most generally just having quite time to themselves.
I was sincerely hoping that Kate and her sister would make it back, however, after I saw MIL's condition Friday afternoon - I knew that she only had hours to live.
I am going to miss that lady: She alwaays gave me a crisp, new 100 dollar bill on my birthday and I kept telling her that my taking her daughter and her three daughters off her hands was worth more than that! Then we would both have a good laugh while I had tears.

MIKE, JAMES, and others: Very sorry to hear of your trials with the Covid. My son in Phoenix came down with a bad case (refused the shots) and was in the hospital for 8-10 days. Still has lingering effects after 3 months. I did have the shots and often wonder if they helped and what the effects may be down the road!

Terry - You have remained on my prayer list - seems that you have grandfather rights there? I do pray that things settle down for you in the future.

BBL, but I did want again to express my thanks for the kind words from all of you!

I'll take one of the coach and post it later, can't do it from my phone.

Good morning everyone! Cloudy, windy and 72 heading for the same but 79 later. Chance of rain after 3 and then 100% chance tonight. Hoping for a quiet day, but may get out and mow before the rains come. Nothing much else going on.

Sherrel: My sincere condolences to you and your family over your loss.
Tom: Nothing wrong with taking time away from the train room. Better to be there when it feels good to be there.

Hope you all have a great day!

Actually, we don't see anything like that here, but it's quite common in the Southeast. In the photo, of the squirrel, the lichen reminded me of Spanish Moss...I think the difference is that Lichen grows in colder climes, where Spanish Moss proliferates in warmer climes....Here where we are not sure of anything any more.

Watched the Maple Leafs play Florida on Hockey Night in Canada. what a pleasure to watch the show without "Host" Ron McClain, who was off due to testing Positive. David Amber is a much better host. The panel seemed "looser" also...BTW Buds lost in OT 3-2. Going to be a good playoff series. I heard last night every qualifing team has 100 points or more.

Good Morning All. Mostly cloudy and 71°, the relentless winds have continued but now around 12-15 mph instead of the 25+ mph of the last 10 days. I have never seen such continuously high wind patterns that I can remember. Today is forecast to be mixed, with rapidly increasing high pressure, rising humidity, winds shifting from the north around sunset but still somewhat high at 10 mph, thunderstorms starting about 2:00 pm, and temperatures dropping into the mid-40's by this time tomorrow. Now this is traditional ugly spring weather for this locale.

All of these lovely weather changes are occurring about the time this afternoon that I will be going to a memorial party for a couple who passed away 16 & 17 years ago; at one of their kids homes in Denton. Another couple from Dallas are taxiing my wife to that get-together where we will meet up for the eventual trip home. The hostess at this memorial party was 16 when her second parent passed away; her mother was my wife's best friend and her college roommate in 1969-1971. We were unofficial foster parents for her and two siblings for a while. The female half of the couple bringing my wife up, I have known since 1970. We have socialized for over 50 years with a few others from that era, still do, sorta like the Big Chill movie.

Of course yesterday's non-event here at the Coffee Shop was a real disappointment, but I spent much time in the garden picking spinach and just doing general maintenance like pulling weeds, removing dead leaves and squishing cabbage worms. I got a partial lull in the wind last night and applied a bone meal/blood meal/wood ashes/compost top dressing around all tomatoes and peppers. This morning I will work it all in with a hoe before church and the rain later today. Hope that is coming as chances are 100%. I have already been out there this morning picking another week's worth of lettuce.
I also did some more yard mowing along with some easy tractor maintenance - fuel and air filter.

I didn't spend any time in the train shed yesterday and won't spend any time there today, but I found a picture of my third church that I didn't post the other day. It is also perched in an unfinished part of the layout, but I am close to working on it. Just waiting on those too hot summer days when the garden is idle and the yard isn't growing due to no rain.

James - Get well soon. As another mostly hermit type, I have been able to avoid that damn virus.
Tom O - Good news regarding your brother's girl friend. Don't worry about the train room funk. The spirit will return.
Joe -
It never ceases to amaze me how "Cut" letters always get presented to the family late on a Friday, or early on a Saturday, when the appeal window is 48 hours from notification...and no one is ever around...
Kinda like new government programs, regulations or giveaways that are announced at 4:45 on Fridays!
Insurance companies and drug providers - My mail order drug company sends an automated phone call to remind me that a prescription needs refilling, especially those with no refills left. I respond with a "Yes" and they fax my doctor's office with a request. Then two days later I get another automated phone message informing me that it's too early to refill and there will be a delay!!!
Guy - Those Mule Deer seem to be rather docile. The White Tailed Deer in my neighborhood take off immediately when they see or hear anything, especially a dog. I have been able to silently sneak up on them before for a picture.
Greg - Yes, railroads pay property taxes on their right of ways, yards and other facilities. This is the reason that they quickly remove second tracks and unused rail on branch lines. It makes the value go down and thus reduces the property tax.
Good luck making it down to the train room today. It seems that you have a whole list of projects there.
Terry - Good wishes for the latest developments for Marie. It has seemed that permanent care is your best option and may be soon in the future.
By the way, your rent situation sounds incredible.
Steve J - You may have missed my recent post about the Gaylord by the DFW airport. It's a great resort, not just a hotel.
Sherrel - Prayers and condolences to your family on the passing of your MIL.

Today is National Pigs in a Blanket Day. Be sure to celebrate.
Everybody have a great day.
