No lights, no power at all. Sounds more like a wire came loose somewhere. Simple fix.
Yeah, I thought about a simple "smoke test" when I woke up at 3:45am to hit the restroom: Turn off one of the other toggle switches and see if that darkens a different board, d'oh! o_O I first needed to get a few hours' sleep before I could even think of something as simple as that...

That Chevy is a beauty! I got to ask, what is the MPG with that big block? I'm guessing 5-10, maybe a little more if you drive it gently. I think it would be worth every penny!
Miles per gallon? More or less feet per gallon. Has a turbo400 with 4:10/4:11 diffs which allows 50mph @ 3000 rpm. Way high rpm for continued driving with big block. Looking for a 700r4 that will be modified and updated. Still more to do as you can tell. Hopefully will find something before the end of summer.

Good morning from a very bright sky in So. Central Wisconsin. We may hit 80f degrees. Yesterday’s rainfall was basically all day till about 5:30pm. Weather folks on TV said some areas got over 2” but most of us got at least 1.5” of truly needed Springtime rains.

The last 2 chairs of the furniture buying spree last Spring arrived Friday. Over a year for delivery is a sad state of the economy. Amish built so they never were in China or hit the ocean! There is one floor lamp to go that now is scheduled for July and all the purchases will be complete.

The grandson’s hockey team is in a tourney 1.5 hours away. They lost last night’s game and got home around midnight. Games at 9 this morning and 5:30 tonight. But, he has a indoor soccer game at 10am and since that team has a smaller roster he will do the soccer this morning. I watched the Bucks just destroy the Bulls on ABC-TV last night. Or let’s just really say the game was on in the background. I grew up a Bulls fan but with almost 51 adult years in Wisconsin those teams are now more interesting to me.

Texting with the brother. The g/f’s breast cancer operation went well yesterday. They did know from the PET scan on Thursday the cancer was not spreading. 30 days for her to get stronger and then they start the chemo. The brother did state he just purchased a house about 2 miles from the place he just sold a couple months ago. He said no way could he handle the next 8 months in a hotel room. Purchased from a good friend and still within the Desert Mountain golf community. The upgrading of the house and furniture he feels will help Nicole keep busy and her mind off the chemo. As a 2x cancer survivor I didn’t want to tell him that is doubtful but we all handle chemo differently. Thanks for the well wishes received.

I did spend some time in the train room yesterday rearranging the paint bench. Since the paint booth change I just have not been comfortable at the bench. So it’s a start getting back to the trains. 2 continoushours yesterday is 1.75 hours more then past 10 days combined!

Have a good day
TomO

Good Morning All. Cloudy and 71° this late morning. Yesterday's plans changed and I stayed in Dallas for supper and then overnight after I took my wife to the grandson watching event. I came home early this morning, but had trouble with the site. I gave up and I have started doing other stuff. Maybe I'll get a post in later today, maybe not.
Have a good morning.

Morning all,

Noticed slowness in the site earlier, but life got in the way. Intended to work on trains yesterday, but got hit with a migraine that put me out. Must be something in the weather changing.

Already been to the local daughter's house and dismantled an 8' x 10' deck and hauled it to the landfill. Amazing how quickly you can dismantle something with the right blade in a Sawzall. Got the last of it cut and loaded as the heavy drizzle started. They are having the siding replaced within the next few months and didn't want the old siding left under where the deck attaches. When I painted the house 9 years ago, I told them the siding would need replacement in the next 5 years, they waited 9. They are also having most of the windows replaced at the same time. I already did some, but not in a position to do any more.

I'm going to try to get to trains in a bit.

Good morning all! A beautiful sunny 77 here with heavy winds. The ol' wind chimes out back are definitely getting a workout today.

Enjoyed sleeping in this morning and am still just lazing about. Hope to accomplish at least a little something today but we'll see.

One of the best things about my job change is working Monday through Friday and having two consecutive days off every week. At Lowe's I often worked a stretch of 6 or 7 days in a row followed by one day off and then back to work for one day before having another day off. You never knew more than 3 weeks out what your schedule would be so planning anything in your life was impossible. That schedule caused them to lose a lot of good people. So nice now knowing my hours and days off all the time. This job change has been a true blessing in so many ways and I am so thankful for it.

Just as I was typing this I got a text message from a friend who is the CEO of a large trucking company that hauls the US Mail letting me know they are currently hiring support personnel. We had talked a while back and I told him I was looking for something else and he was kind enough to let me know they are hiring. I thanked him for letting me know but that I had already started something new.

I fail to always remember just how truly blessed I am. It's so easy to get down about things and I have to remind myself occasionally just how good things are for me compared to so many others in this world.

Ok, enough of that. Hope you all have a great day!

Good morning. It's clear and 53.
I've appealed the insurance company's decision regarding my wife. We'll know by Monday if she gets kicked out, or can continue receiving care.
Stay tuned for another gut-churning episode of "The Perils of Pauline"...
It never ceases to amaze me how "Cut" letters always get presented to the family late on a Friday, or early on a Saturday, when the appeal window is 48 hours from notification...and no one is ever around...

I hate insurance companies...The wife takes Rinvoq, for RA. $5000+ for 30 pills retail...Under our insurance it's a Tier 5 drug, which means it requires prior approval. Unbeknown to anyone, the approval ran out on 4/12/22 - the earliest fill date was 4/20/22. Wife asked for refill on 4/18/22...today the Pharmacy Benefit manager, finally let her apply for emergency refill today...they just called back via automated call notifying her, her authorization was denied...and closed with theadmonition "to be sure to take your medications on time" Scumbags!

Hi again. Let's try this again.

Curt - So sorry to hear you are not well. Infections can be a very ugly malady. Get better soon.

James - Bad luck to have caught the evil Covid. I rapid tested + for a straight 10 days over the winter. Believe I hatched it shopping in a big-box store, as well. As it happens, I'm one of the so called 'sheep' that believe in the vaccination, and I've had 3 jabs. I further believe that the vaccination saved my butt, and made the illness easier to handle.

Joe - I like cats. However, I do believe they are far more murderous and make more trouble than a dog. You're photo describes pretty well the way a cat thinks. None-the-less, I wouldn't hurt the cat if she ruined my layout. I would just rebuild.

Last night, I quickly cut and stained twenty 1/8sq. spruce sticks, to be ground throw supports for the switches sitting on cork track-bed. The whole job took about twenty minutes only:
Layout_04-22-2022 (1).JPG

I'd tried some lighter coloured ones earlier, and found they still needed more height. So I glued on more spruce rail-tie that I had made up. The ground throw's not spiked down, yet. I'm still trying to decide if I need more height. - I think so.

The deer are out in force these past days. I've collected about thirty or so photographs while walking. Here's a few, from yesterday and again today:

All the deer photos were taken while I'm walking the dog. 'Sky' would sure like to get off the leash and initiate a chase, but, she has me to contend with. She remains fairly docile when confronting deer and moose.
The fellow that really makes 'Sky' go nuts, is this little tree rodent, who's chewing on some Beard lichen. The dog wants him the most of all; I suppose because he's small, noisy, and can climb:

Hope you enjoy these simple posts of life in the not so far north. I also hope you have a great and prosperous Saturday! It's Spring, after all!

Guy: Love the photos...those Mule Deer look so innocent.....but I'm happy they are not devouring my veggie garden in Jersey. Joe Bowen, the radio commentator for the Toronto Maple Leafs, always refers to Jersey as the Swamps....not true. we have Sandy beaches, a Sandy Coastal Plain which runs inland to around Ft. Dix - McGuire - Lakehurst Joint Military Facility, Coastal Plain and Mountains....Yes Appalachian Mountains aka the Ramapo. That's all in the Northern and Central Part...Then there is the South Jersey portion.

Molly is a big cat...similar to the one in the photo. But she has minimal interest in my model railroad. Occasionally, she will be attracted to the sound of a train running, and will lock on and follow it as long as it is visible, but she has no interest in jumping up to pounce it. Molly is pretty laid back.

Commenting on the Ground Throw, (aka switch stand), and the PECO switch. Looks good as is. How does it work? If the switch points line up in both straight and diverging, and the wheels stay on the rail it's good to go. If not, it's back to the drawing board. You are the judge. I am installing a bunch of non operating switch stands on my yard...they come with the Micro Engineering switches which also come with locking springs. They will be there for appearance. I use Caboose throws with Atlas C-83 switches on another section of my layout, and they work fine. One thing I learned over 42 years on the railroad, is that nothing is standard. Depends on where you are, and when it was built.

Not for nothing, the tree which the squirrel is using to pose for your picture, appears to have some Spanish Moss on it...in Alberta????

Commerce, Mike. They were more helpful during that era. When TD took over, it was still ok, until they merged in BankNorth. Sice then it's been all down hill. The decline escalated with Covid as an excuse to become mediocre at best. Speakin of Covid, sorry the bug bit you. hope you recover quickly.
Yeah, Commerce was all over the “Tri-County Area(Burlington, Camden & Gloucester)” & they actually believe in customer service. Thanks. I started feeling better last night, Today, not so much. Fever spiked back to triple digits again & I feel like Danny Zuko. Thanks for the well wishes, Joe.

he PSX circuit breaker that controls the main line appears to have failed; no lights at all, completely dead. I'll troubleshoot it some more in the morning, when I'll hopefully have gotten some rest. Can't even deal with it at the moment. If I'm unable to get this thing functioning or replaced before Tuesday, I'll have no choice but to cancel the open house. Can't have an open house without running trains!
Ken: Is it possible to by-pass the circuit breaker to get train up and running?

Blimey a tank is only 4 gallons to the mile, maybe you need to check the ex military options

I had a 1987 2500 Suburban with the 7.4 (454) engine, turbo 400, and 2.73 gears. it still got 8mpg. Driving on the highway, city, towing, empty, a/c on or off, it got 8.

Good Afternoon Everyone in Model Railroad Land. Sunny and warm in this part of Wisconsin with some clouds forming. Breezy.

Heard the UP locomotives on their mainline south of my house. Over two miles away and the horns were clear and sounded great.

Spent the morning and half of the afternoon outside supervising the "Lady Of the Garden" and doing some odds jobs. A real teaser for an April Day in Wisconsin. She purchased for me a one gallon mini Wet/Dry vacuum that should work great for cleaning the cars. On sale with a coupon for only $10.00. Riley spent the entire time outside with us and she will be a tired puppy tonight.

I'm a student of Walt Disney and the company I worked for sent me to Disney University to learn how the Disney Organization did business and how they handled the crowds they have at the parks at Disney World. A fun filled and intense training exercise with fun evenings at the parks without any crowds. I think this situation with Disney and the battle to give up its rights to self rule will blow-over. Disney pays over 200 million a year in taxes to the two counties where the 27,000 acres are located. I bring this up because I'm not sure if the railroads pay taxes on their right of ways as they run through populated areas and the country side.

Tomorrow I head down to the train room. Cooler day tomorrow and maybe some rain??? I have a burned out area on the layout that no-one notices since its in a corner of the layout. I purchased a East Coast Circuits fire truck with flashing red lights and a smoke generator that should attract some attention. I want to get them wired to a panel for control.

Guy and Boris: I plan to install some working and some non-working switch stands on my yard turnouts. I already have small signs to post at each turnout to let the operators know which turnout needs to be thrown. The control panel has the turnout labeled. The Interchange has six sets of two turnouts that help the locomotives move about the Interchange. The Interchange is at near eye level and even with each set of turnouts having operating signals, it can be a bit confusing to run a locomotive and handle the turnouts positions.

I like the looks of the Caboose ground throws mounted on the PECO turnouts. Nice job of mounting the throws.

Tom: That's great news that you are getting back to the hobby. I know what you were going through because I can forgot about model railroading for extended periods of time and totally lose interest in the hobby. I have some inspirational videos and books on famous model railroads that bring me back to the groove.

I used to make a Brandy Old Fashion or two and just watch trains run. It's funny how being relaxed can bring fresh ideas to a project.

Hey, John Allen had his moments too!!!

I been watching the crab fishermen at work in the the Bering Sea at night lately so tonight crab is on the menu. First a cocktail or two and then diner. I love seafood. No fish other than good Cod.

Trying to convince Cathy that crab legs served cold is good as well served warm or hot. The first time I had cold crab legs was in Las Vegas and I loved the taste.

That's about all for now.....

Greg

Well,

Did get a couple of hours downstairs.

First round:

Second round:

Third pass:

Last pass:

Still not sure what to do with any water. Could be a dry wash, muddy stream or clear stream. Most all of the prairie streams tend to run muddy. What opinions do you guys think?

Did some track work and based on info you guys have passed along, finally have my E7 6 axle engines working in any direction on the inner loop. I also had to lube the gears on on of the engines. Kind of noisy and of course it's on the harder truck to lube. I just need to finalize the landscaping and finish the track over the bridge.

Hopefully I'll get some time tomorrow.
