YES, exactly! The despot sells thick green, white and brown ones and they probably run cheaper at harbor freight or some such, but that IS the animal of which I speak! The white ones would do a 'winter' scene quite well.
Must have missed this update over the weekend. The building is really looking good. I'm with David waiting to see the finished structure on your layout. Well done.
Thank you Montanan.I too am looking forward to finishing this one.unfortunately work is going to interfere the next couple days and then have to move daughter and son in law into new house on weekend and back to work.be slow going.
With the walls dry I put in the board end joints and nail holes. I then installed all doors and window frame, Once this was done I gave a relief wash to bring everything out.
I decided to try something new which is use krylon camoflouge kaki spray bomb to spray the shingles before I attach them to the cardstock for the roofs. When I use this for castings it comes out looking just as if I painted with floquil earth colour.
I also am doing some experimenting for coloring the boardwalk and freight receiving deck and ramp.
Lynn , I think your first sample there looks most like wood that see's heavy traffic and assorted dirt and yuck . I don't see a label on it though . I think the earth A/I would be my second vote .
Jim the first sample is A/I , I was thinking the same with the earth and A/I.I've actually decided I will do the boardwalk and freight deck in strip wood rather than the scribed board. I'm not real comfortable with using the scribed board but am quite familiar with the strip wood and I just received a large order which included 2x8 and I will more than likely go the A/I way with some added chalks.
Does look good Jim. I've been starting to use a lacquer thinner in the floquil weather black to try especially on delicate areas as it doesn't warp the wood like A/I. Will have to try this experiment on the stripwood , I'm sure the results will be similar.
Not only are you a great builder, you are a great teacher! A question about the board walk because several of your samples look so good. Is it possible that one side of the building would get more traffic and/or more bad weather as to make them look slightly different? To much detail? This from me who has not detailed any structures yet
Thanks again for your photos.
Larry your embarrassing me,I'm just an average builder that takes 3 times longer than anyone else.As for boardwalk if your referring to the above building photo where building is sitting on the scribed board, no weathering of any kind has been done other than perhaps an unintentional splatter. I will be doing the board walks from stripwood. When I do my weathering I think of it as what I would like to see , same as your layout , build the way you would like to see it. I try to model in the dirty 30's era , dirty grimy dusty. But at the same time weather realistically , obviously if there's a metal rod sign support coming out the side of a wall under an eve well not likely there will be much or any rust stain running down the wall.Hope this helps.
