One of the two layout rooms is pretty much done. Just need to workout how to trim the tops down for the terrain.Sure makes a major impact on the layout and will make it much simpler to fill in from the edge of layout inward.

Nice job on the apron.I did mine with 1/8" plexiglas but only had 2 curves and its not as wide as yours.
Thanks Johne, you do realize I will be trimming down the tops all the way around to fit the terrain right? Also I will be putting a lower curtain all around.

A bit more done. I find you really have to figure things out with putting this stuff up, have to make sure there are no seams where there is any stress.I will need to add on to the bench work in the near future so I can finish off to the wall. This will be the turntable area.

Yes I did the same thing with the masonite trimmed it to matchterrain then I left the plexi an inch above to act as a stop for falling trains.

Looking real good. Like it a lot.

After looking at all of the crap you have under the layout, I don't feel bad. Mine is a mess in areas, but I believe you have topped me. Sometimes you don't have a choice.

I have been noticing the material piles have been getting smaller atleast

I did see a broom in a picture. Guess you're making an effort. With all of the cutting for the apron, I can see where you would have quite a mess. I do my cutting in another room and my wife makes sure that it gets put in the trash. What a party pooper.

I also like it.
Just another thing to do when ever I reach completion ................. few years, ok many more years till then, but on a to do list

Yes montanan I actually finished the last section and realized I still had to pull a tortoise switch machine down and reinstall with a longer throw wire and of course realized I had some cleaning to do before I could comfortably get at it so did a cleanup and rearrangement. Floor is now swept up, wood moved to another area and tortoise reinstalled.

Thanks hawk it really is quite easy once you get over the beginner first piece hump, well more like the second.

Last section installed until I do the last section of benchwork. Now to decide on terrain height and trim down the fascia where its needed.

How are you going to trim the fascia?.
I'm interested to see how,..... when there is only a proposed terrain behind it, ...and when there is an existing terrain behind it.

That's actually a very good question and I really can't say that I had given it any thought but guess I will have to eventually.

It is really coming together, it looks like all your buildings are done so just scenery?

Most of the structures get used up pretty quick , I do have a good dozen or so more to build that will fit into certain scenes. With the fascia up now it definitely narrows down and helps the scenery process.just got to make some decisions on how the terrains will end up against the fascia.

I've done this fascia board a couple of ways. One time I built my scenery to the edge and had my wife hold up the fascia board and I used a magic marker tracing the ups and downs. Another time I experimented and the eventually used this method: I put on my fascia first, then did the terrain. After it was all done I used a skill powersaw and cut the board off along the terrain lines. This was easier, but there was a bit of 'touching up' to do to match the scenery to the board. My best advice is to cut and add the fascia first, then add scenery. Jim

Thanks Jim , I was going to jig saw the terrain shape in the fascia first then build scenery up to fascia board and hopefully be careful enough with the glue/water fixative that it doesn't effect the inside of fascia. I guess the top edges of fascia can be left with its natural edge.

As you have the fascia firmly attached Lynn, and if your concerned about the inside of the fascia with regard the scenery, I'd seal the inside of the fascia with a clear gloss. That should (as said) seal it and prevent any of the scenery (plaster etc) effecting it.

Once you have your scenery almost completed, height wise, I'd then get out the trust Jig Saw and shape the fascia a 1/2 or so above where you have stopped the scenery. Once done, you could then finish the scenery.

Basically mate, "fudge it" :)
