Steve, it's an Atlas part from their MP15. Here's the link:

Here's one of the prototype pictures I used of the unit.

Thanks Jerome. The NJ Transit SW1500's i'de like to model are actually former P&LE switchers.

Really like the Southern and CN stuff Jerome. I am still fairly new here so I have to ask you, are you selling this stuff or are you just building the biggest switching yard in the history of mankind? I assume this stuff is mostly Athearn saying as Atlas doesn't make to many switchers in comparison to the latter? One last question, the decals on the CN unit are water slides right?, but what about the white line on the angle is that just taped off and painted or is that water slide too?

Thanks again,

Brad, I sell them once in a while but most of them are for my future project. Eventually I will have a 4' X 16' diorama called JTEX (Jerry's Truck & Electric). It will be a switcher rebuilder's shop. I have most of the buildings built for it, just need the space. I would say that most of my switcher collection 90% is Athearn. The white angled stripe is also a decal. Micro-Scale set # 87-939.

Your work is flawless that is for sure. I attached a picture of an old Tyco Union Pacific gondola car that was yellow before with red lettering. Anyway I painted it Engine Black and have been messing around with water slide decals on this model. I have been using Micro Scale decals with Walthers Decal setting solution to make the decal snuggle down on the detail of the car. Just wondering if you use a similar product on your switchers.

On this same car I had a few mistakes with the setting solution. You brush the stuff on after you put the decals on but I made the mistake of messing with it after the fact and smeared the decal to the point of having to strip and remove it. Just wondering that technique or products you use to achieve your results. In the photo you can see I over sprayed the finished decal with Engine Black Polly Scale. But you can still see the clear portion of the decal on the model. Should I have Dull Coted between the decal and the over spray to prevent this?

Brad, I use Champ's decal setting solution. I've used it for over 20 years with great results. I do the same routine every time I paint.

Paint-Gloss coat-decals-Gloss coat-Dull-coat, weathering-Dull coat.

Right on, thanks again for letting me pick your brain Jerome. This is it, I can't promise but do you mix your Dull Cote 50/50 with lacquer thinner?

Brad, not a problem. I help out when I can. I usually mix mine about 70 dull coat, 30 thinner. I like it a bit thicker myself. The same with gloss coat.

Jerome, is Athearns version of a stimulus plan! Long as jerome is alive they will be in business, and I wouldn't be suprised if Jerome doesn't have a stock option with Athearn!:D If ya ever try to order a sw 1500 and run in to, "Out of stock" every where you go........BLAME JEROME!:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Who me??? Not true, I just collect the poor un-wanted critters and give them a new home. :D

LOL, Chris, I think you're right about Jerome trying to corner the SW1500 market. Wait until he starts on MP15's next. :)

Nice pictures and models as usual, Jerome. How do you manage to get the old metal handrails so straight and smooth? You do a better job at that than any other BB modeler I've seen and they all look good, not just a few.

Jim, I put them together on the engine first. I have a small pair of channel locks that I use to crimp over the top ends. Then I line them up by eye as close as I can and I use some CA to hold them in place. I hit all 4 corners with a toothpick at the top of the stanchion and handrail. Then I remove them for painting and re-install them after decals and gloss coat has been applied to the engine. That way they get the weathering coat and final dull-coat.

Jerome is buying up all 1500's and when Athearn stops making them he's going to sell them back to us at way higher prices! The man has got to be stoped at all cost........

Speaking of higher prices, a bunch of those on sale athearn BB 1500s showed up at a local train show this weekend at Buffalo Central Terminal, Not a single one was priced below 35 bucks. Glad I got mine when they were on sale, just kicking myself for not buying a second.

For an average run of the mill powered Athearn BB SW1500 I won't pay over $25. Now there are a few rare ones that i'll pay a bit more for, i.e. NASA, MKT, SP KodaChrome, etc. These are hard to find and very sought after. There is even a guy on ebay that bought some of the $20 ones, and he admits this. And he's selling these for $59.95 Buy It Now!! Not gonna happen!!! LOL

Hey Jerome just fer fun How's abouts Ya's make's some NFL SW1500's! Hmmmmmmm, might be fun to have some Super Bowl locomotives!

Chris, you asked the one guy that was born without the "sports gene". Besides, decals would cost a fortune to make. Not my cup of tea as they say.
