Corey...I am a fan of Christmas music, too I LOVE Christmas movies. I watch "A Christmas Story" throughout the year. I do suppose though, my favorite Christmas movie is "It's a Wonderful Life". Gets me every time.

I also enjoy the "Christmas Carol" with Reginald Owen. My favorite version.

Oh...and "White Christmas"

Ahhhhh.......

George C. Scott for me! It's a Wonderful Life is a favorite as well. I'm toying with buying a 'leg' lamp online. I would hope that my family would get it!

Sandy, sounds like another fun day in Denver.. The ocean is a strange thing. You either find it the most restful, tranquil place in the world or you're scared to death of it. I've been at both extremes when sailing but lying at anchor in a calm bay with the moon rippling in the water makes it all worth it for me. Of course, learning to dive just makes it that much better. There's quite a world just under the surface.

Chris, I think Rico and Muffy are related. :) He has that same look that Muffy did just before she started ripping chunks out of my leg. Bubbles looks a lot calmer than Rico. :D

Corey and Sandy, it's not that I don't like Christmas but it sure tends to get old now that it starts around Halloween. I do like Christmas movies and Christmas songs as we get closer to Christmas. The Alabama Shakespeare Theater is doing a live performance of A Christmas Story that we're going to see. It will be interesting to see how they translate Ralphie and The Old Man on the stage. One thing I do every Christmas season is re-read A Christmas Carol by Dickens. I suspect not many people have ever read it all the way through. No movie really does the story justice, although the version with Alastair Sim is the closest. Dickens makes you feel the cold and fog of London in your bones as you read. The story really does remind you why we have Christmas.

It's a clear and pleasantly cool night here. In keeping with our lazy theme, I not only did nothing useful today but I also ate a big, greasy hamburger. Might as well enjoy my last days since, apparently, all of us in Alabama are doomed to an early death.

Good Morning--

Here I go getting up in the early morning to get ready to go and do the weekend seminar thing as well as get some stuff done for the class I'm taking. Our weather has been interesting for November as we've seen more sun than we seen all summer!:rolleyes::)till get rain but --Sheeesh! I love seeing sun:D:D:D

Jim My favorite thing for Christmas is doing a caroling thing with a bunch of our neighbours--we usually start around the next weekend after the evening Santa Claus parade and we usually will go to the nursing homes and long term care facilities and the like--as well as pester the neighbours around us--heeheeheee:D:D The Charles Dickens novel is a really good read--he tended to bring the atmosphere right into your home when you read that thing. The Alistair Sims version is really the only movie version that I'd watch. That and Miracle On 34th Street.

Well----off we go doing this stuff---have a good one

Good morning. It's 49 and mostly cloudy. The high will be in the mid 70's and it will be partly cloudy.

The doc appointment went well yesterday. The foot shows no sign of swelling and the incision from the first surgery is nearly healed. The second incision is also healing well. The pressure wound on the bottom of the foot is almost completely healed. Being that the bone that was pressing against it is now gone there's nothing to keep ripping it open now. It's down to half a millimeter in size. Yesterday I downloaded and tried the Yard Office database software. It has it's good points but for the most part I was not favorably impressed. It's an incomplete freeware version and I don't feel like parting with $27 to get the rest of something I'm not impressed with. I'll stick with the RRTRAINS 2000 database. With it I got the complete program instead of a stripped down freeware version and it didn't cost me anything except my time to download it and set it up. I had intended to be online last night but the cable system out here had different ideas. It went down sometime during the late afternoon and stayed down until sometime between 11 pm and 2:30 am. I was up for a short time around 2:30 and checked out of curiosity.

Oh come on, you got friends in Shady hills too! By the looks of the place seems to be billy bobs on kitten trail rd! The Dude loved his bikes and so did his three wives/first cousins!:p;):D

No really there is a Redneck/biker hood near to me that 80% of the double wide trailers have ramps that lead up to the widend front doors so that the Bikers rides can share the living room! I had e few friends who did that:rolleyes: Dang trailer was a pig sty, but their bike was so clean you could eat off of it! Go figure......;):p

Jim, I believe that the law in Alabama is: a posted "Beware of Dog" sign proves that the owner knows the dog is a danger and that the dog should be secured accordingly. It is not a defense against liability. Strange but that is what I have been told. I also personally know a guy that was successfully sued when a neighbor kid sneaked into the dog pen and was bitten while messing with his dog.

Sandy: Ask and you shall receive. Even one of an ole RiverRat, LOL:D Ralph is the blonde at 110 lbs and Archie, at 97 lbs, the Red.

The RiverRat?? Well, he is from Tuscaloosa, so....he is just FAT and LAZY!:D:D

Afternoon, everyone.

Rex, I obviously don't know Alabama law but, basically, there is no protection against liability anywhere, just defenses. You can be sued for anything. That is the heart of the problem. With no clear standards for tort law, it's up to what a lawyer can get a jury to believe. Right or wrong, you're just hung out to dry. If we had the same standards for criminal law, half the country would be in jail. The way to bring down the cost of everything from liability to health insurance is to reform tort law. That's about as likely as three Big Boy's showing up on my porch for free today. The boys sure have grown in the last year. It's either the picture angle or it looks like you've lost some weight. Can't be doing too much of that if we want to keep the title. :D

Chris, we had some mean biker gangs in California and they would commonly have trailers out in the woods, making meth and causing general havoc, including running their bikers around the inside of the trailer. They were some of the lowest life forms on earth but, like you siad, their bikes were always immaculate. I'd literally stop by the fire department after transporting a few of these guys to jail and have them run one of those big fans in the back for about 15 minutes so I could breathe again.

Jeffrey, glad to hear the healing is porogressing well. Our cable has been completely flaky, going up and down every 10 minutes. I was downloading the database program you recommended last night and it went out three times during the download. I gave up and went to bed.

Barry, I think the idea you go out and go caroling is really nice. I'm sure even your neighbors appreciate it. I was doing a little more reading on a history of A Christmas Carol last night. It was written in 1843 and has never been out of print since then, a record only beaten by the Bible. Dicken's father spent time in a debtor's prision and he wrote the story to remind people who were better off that they owed something to the poor at least once a year. He also restored Christmas to a festive season. It was very somber and subdued in England at the time due to the Puritian traditions of the Anglican church. It was a world changing little book in many ways. I wish more people would read it.

Larry, I'm sure a guy as nice as you doesn't really mean Bah Humbug. :D

Well, I was going to do a little work on the layout today but the headlight in the Suzuki has burned out...again. This is three times in three years. I've measured the voltage going to the bulb and it reads 12.6 volts, so it's not an overvoltage situation. I think the mount is poorly designed and permits too much vibration to get to the bulb. In order to change it, I have to remove the air cleaner, fuse box cover, and spout that leads to the windshield washer tank. I then have about three inches of room to work with. I'm going to buy one of those super duper heavy duty bulbs this time for $25 and see if it will last more than a year. If I could find the Japanese engineer that designed the headlights, I'd taser him about 10 times, just to make myself feel better.

Good Afternoon All!

Didn't make it to church this morning. I was asked to take care of an 'end of life' client in her home today. Fortunately, this is a lady who is simply surrounded by love in her home. Her wonderful husband is by her side almost all the time and her son is there most of the time. After I left, the family called the office and asked them to schedule me as often as I can be there. I guess there was a good connection. I hope to be able to assist them any way that I can.

On a lighter note...Jim...I do enjoy the Alastair Sim version of ACC as well. In the Reginald Owen version, the scene where he discovers that he did not miss Christmas just makes me laugh and feel so...Christmasy. My senior class did A Christmas Carol and I was Christmas Present. "Ebeneezer Scrooge!! I am the ghost of Christmas Present! You have forgotten me these many years!" That's all I rmember! (It has been a few years!)

Corey...My family loves A Christmas Story. We use catch phrases from it ALL year. "Not a fingah"! "Fra-gee-lee...Must be Italian"! We put that on all our packages to one another :o) "You'll shoot your eye out"! and "Stupid Bumpuses!!!"! Great movie! The leg lamps are a hoot. I would recommend that purchase :D

Rex...Ralph and Archie are beautiful...er...HANDSOME! Are they the best of buddies? I like the picture of the 'RiverRat', too. ;) That area is lovely and I can almost smell the smoke from the campfire! How late into the season can you still go camping?

Barry...shoot! I thought I had listed all of my favorite Christmas movies...you reminded me of Miracle on 34th Street. Love it. A recent one that I didn't want to like but ended up loving is Elf with Will Farrell.

Jeffrey....Sounds like you are doing everything right for your recooperation! Glad to hear the good update on your foot!!! :)

Hope everyone has a great day. It is about 38 degrees out and the snow from yesterday night didn't stick. It was too warm. However, 3-5 inches of accumulation is expected overnight.

Sandy

Kinda blurry (taken from car) but it was dang cold!!

Jim: That must have been some real bad signal! Took me about 10 seconds to download it with the cable here acting up last week. I can understand the frustration with the cable problem. Last night mine wasn't just flaky. It was full slap out for over 6 hours! If I wasn't so used to it going down on the weekends and holidays (the techs probably get overtime for working those days) I would have been highly pissed off. As it was I was only up to the point of wanting to scalp someone. When the cable internet signal is down my phone is down as well, so I can't even call to complain about it unless I go use someone elses phone.

Went to town and got me some brick colored latex paint for a DPM structure (Front Street Building) that I'm working on. When I checked my little bottles of brick red acrylic paint they were all dried up. So I got a sample size ($3) can of paint that's a shade between 'Baked Red Clay' and 'Mediterranean Sun'. Looks pretty good on the can lid. I'll see how good it looks on the model later. I also picked 2 packs (4 grams each) of Super Glue. I got the Duro stuff this time. I've had it with that LocTite super glue I got last time. I tried it on several things, following the directions to the letter. No dice. The glue, even spread very thinly, stayed wet for far longer than it should have and when I tested the bond some HOURS later it came apart easily. Elmer's school glue would have worked better! No more LocTite super glue for me.

Jeffrey I've got a bottle of Loctite Super glue, and it's been working great! Good strong bonds and all! Of course, I usually use zip kicker with any ACC to speed things along, but I've had no trouble with the Loctite stuff. Bad batch maybe??

It may have been from a bad batch. This isn't in a bottle but a 10 gram tube.

Sandy, I'm glad there are people like you, that enjoy and take seriously caring for people in their last days. I hope there's someone around like you when it's my time. I'm sure you were a lovely Spirit of Christmas Present, although they must have bulked you up some for the role. :) "You have never seen the like of me before!", exclaimed the Spirit. "Never," Scrooge made answer to it. Great lines. I was the Spirit of Christmas Future in our high school play so I got to be the scary one and not learn any lines. :D I like the Reginald Owens happy dance too but it's not true to the book. Still gives me feel good though.

Jeffrey, it was up and down about every 10 seconds. This lasted for half an hour. I've given up complaining. Nothing does any good, so I just go to bed and read a good book. I'm telling you, get the Loctite in the gray bottle with the black brush cap at Wallyworld. Best CA I've ever used, and it will set in about five seconds flat. All the other Loctite stuff is crap.

Finally got the headlight back in the Suzuki after some good cuss words. Geez, why do they have to make it so hard? Even my local dealer doesn't know how to replace the darn things. At $22, this one had better last for more than a year.

Hi all,

I'm dealing with a miniature crisis that I hope won't become a mega-crisis: All my tax paperwork for 2008 has disappeared. My W-2's, mortgage interest statements, canceled checks to church/charity - everything for that year was in a tupperware in my den and it got 'relocated' by my better half who decided she needed that tupperware container for something more important. Trouble is, she can't remember what she transferred the papers into, or where she put them. We spent 3 hours searching every nook and cranny in the house trying to find those papers, but no luck. So if the IRS decides to audit us, we're screwed. Anybody know how to go about getting replacements for the source documents of an earlier tax year? Sheesh, I can't even remember half the deductions I claimed...

Mail a letter to the IRS, and ask for duplicate W2's. You can get images of your canceled checks from your bank, though they usually charge for this. You can probably get duplicate mortgage statements from the mortgage company. Personally, I'd get everything BUT the W2's that I could. Only request those duplicates if you get audited, for obvious reasons...

Jim...thanks for the kind words :) I try to treat every client/patient the way I would have wanted my Mom treated. Makes it easy to pass along some kindness.

Actually...I was a pretty thin version of Christmas Present. I had to wear HUGE poofy attire and think 'big'! The editor of the annual put my picture in that role in the yearbook. If I stumble across it, I will scan it and show you. I was very...expressive :D and could handle the fun-ness of the part, so my English teacher chose me. And it WAS fun.

The snow is coming down and may just keep me from driving to work in Denver in the AM. Poor Sandy

Ken...I hope you find your paperwork! It will turn up when you are not frantically searching for it.
