OK, All, we've settled in for the night. Not much to report other than we ran into rain and "slush". Yes, it "slushed" outside. You know the stuff. It's when the weather can't decide whether it wants to rain or snow. Looking at the map for tomorrow looks like we might hit a bit of snow in the morning. The waves may be a bit taller too. And the wind may puff a little stronger. We may have to move further from shore in order to keep away from some of the stronger waves. Shallow water equals bigger waves in most cases.
We did see a few more container ships and a couple of freighters. One of the freighters was empty as she was riding pretty high in the water. Most boats were heading out of the lakes, though a few were heading up. It was slushing too bad to take pictures as they would have just looked like a fog.
We should make Saginaw Bay easily tomorrow, that was the plan, being there in two days. Had a really good day today and made better distance than I had planned. We dropped anchor in a small cove that is pretty sheltered and will take off again at first light. I pushed a little too long and we passed our intended layover. Still we made and additional 75 miles. Not bad.
Lunch was pretty good, supper better. We had hot ham and cheese sandwiches and homemade vegetable soup for lunch. Then I grabbed a bit of courage and fired up the grill on the back of the boat for some burgers for supper. Mighty nippy out there flippin' hamburgers. Added fried zucchini and fries and we were gorged.
Rex, bringing the boat to you means going over the top to Lake Michigan, and through the Chicago River. There are turds floatin' in that river!!! Smells unbelievably bad. Then you have to spend countless hours waiting for lockage, while stuck in that cesspool. No, thanks.
Karl, I'd almost bet that you can get the house for cheaper than $50K. Make a lower offer, the worst that could happen is that they turn you down. Then work your way up. And a partially unfinished basement? What exactly does that mean? I've always heard it said that the basement is partially finished. Does that mean that there's more to do than what has already been done? Or visa versa?
And you wouldn't be so jealous if you saw the receipts for fuel. I might have to take out a mortgage on this thing. It holds just over 600 gallons of gas, closer to 650. At almost $2.50/gallon, you can do the math.
Jeffrey, you need to have those doctors move in next door. Shorter trips and you'll save on gas. Glad to hear all is coming along good, though. Da Prayers be werkin'.
Sandy, what's up with the Broncos? They haven't played this well since Elway. My MLB team is still in it. The Evil Empire. Go, Yankees.
Tom, sometimes losing a pet rates up there on the pain scale of losing a relative. I remember having to put down my Labrador. He was 17 years old an just couldn't get around any more. I took him to the vet and held him until his last breath. Pretty emotional. He was a pound puppy and probably the best dog I've ever owned. And probably the best dog I've ever hunted behind. He was my best buddy for many years. I feel your pain.
When I got the Weimy, I considered another Lab. But, I came to the conclusion that it would forever be compared to B.T., and that just wouldn't be fair. The comparison would have been inevitable. So, I got me a "grey ghost".
I waited ten years before buying a new dog. Now we have three. Two Boston Terriers and the Weirmeraner. They are like a combination of the Three Stooges and the Three Muskateers. Hannah, the little Boston, is the runt. She only weighs 17#. Otis, actually O.D. for other dog, but we gave him a name so he wouldn't have a complex, is 31#. The Weimy, Heimy, yes, Heimy the Weimy, is a huge, for a Weirmeraner, 130#. But, Hannah is the leader of the pack, that's for sure.
There is a story that goes with Otie. He was born with an exposed hernia and was going to be destroyed. We made a deal with the breeder, as we were waiting for this litter and had been dealing with them for a companion for Hannah, and our vet. We would pay to have his hernia repaired and have him neutered if the breeder would give us the dog. A deal was struck and the owner took Otie back home to be nursed by his mother. Now, he's all boy, rambunctious and full of p!$$ and vinegar. And very intelligent. Hannah, she's a prima donna and knows it. And Heimy is the big brother to both.
Chris, obviously, you've misunderstood what I meant about my better half. She would open a serious case of whupa$$ if you wanted to party. She's a pretty earthy girl and parties are not her favorite thing. Unless of course it's for a grandkid, niece, or nephew.... And I don't think any of the attendees could pass for an 8-year old. The kegs would give you away. And Ken would look mighty odd sucking beer through a sippy cup.
Well, I'd better hit the rack. Got another challenging day tomorrow. I hope it's as easy as today.
