Afternoon, everyone.
Mikey, you guys up north got all the rain again. We had about a half hour of rain that produced a lousy .20 inches. The front just collapsed by the time it got here. It's sunny and 84 here now. Mikey, relative to Rex, I still look like a Greek god.
Terry, I think he meant Greek god like the statues.
I'm probably the only 63 year old guy he's seen in months that is within five pounds of ideal weight and has never has surgery in his life so he may have been overly impressed. I really am lucky to be this age and have no real problems except for Meniere's Syndrome, which seems to be in a burnout stage right now.
Barry, the metro population down here is about 250,000 and we have zero hobby shops. Consider yourself lucky. I was looking at the weather map and you've got a heck of a pressure gradient going up there, which is causing all the wind. Once that low gets off the coast, things should quiet down and you - theoretically - should have a couple of dry days.
Chris, in addition to the health problems, smoking has gotten really expensive, as you say. Raising the taxes on cigarettes is the direct cause of the high prices. I don't have a problems with the high prices, because it does discourage more people into quitting smoking. I just hate see more unearned tax revenue going to government to waste on pork.
Bob, that's too bad they did so much damage to actual layout since it represents the majority of work you did. At least it sounds like a lot of the rolling stock is at least fixable. Sounds like a very comprehensive alarm system. Make sure they do good falsing tests before you cut them loose. The motion and glass break sensors can be set off by wind or a tree limb moving across a window in the wind if they aren't adjusted properly. Not only do too many false alarms crank off the local cops (and some jurisdictions are starting to fine you for too many) but the deputies will start assuming that every alarm at your place is false and take their time getting there. My company gave me a written guarantee that the system, if properly set, wouldn't have more than one false alarm a year. In the past three years, we've only had one, so they did a good job setting things up right. I'm glad to hear your neighbors pitched in to help. It goes a lot better with some extra hands and people who can empathize with your predicament.
Got my new DCS 50 today so I'll hook it up and see if the analog circuit in the existing control station really is blown. Other than that, nothing exciting happening here.
