bnsf971 I like those----:):);)

I will say this---what we are seeing has a name-----moral relativism. Through that they can justify any action to themselves and others. That and some dang thing called self entitlement. GRRRR:mad::mad::mad:

I'm starting to think ---well---that certain kinds of things such as what happened to Bob only points out what happens when certain stances are not allowed public space to be said---such as "justice for those who have been wronged"---GRR:mad::mad:

Off my soapy box-----:eek::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Ken, I don't have too many pics of myself. Don't think I have any that aren't in jeans, but maybe I'm forgetting one?

Actually Phillip, I was remembering a pic you posted of yourself standing beside your '67 Camaro. I didn't see any leather or bandanas there...;)

All, finally!!!!!!!! All the picture takers are gone. The "crime scene" photographers showed up just before lunch, and of course, stopped taking pictures while they went to lunch 1/2 hour later. Then they came back to finish.

The insurance adjuster and my agent were here at 9 AM.

But, out of it all there is some good news. The old Grandfather clock survived!!! Not even a crack in the glass. And the movement still works. What a relief that is.

I called the folks that built the log house and they will be here by the end of the week to replace the French door and the two windows that were broken.

We did get the porch cleaned off. Seemed as though Angela had a ton of dirt in those flower pots. And the mess in the kitchen is taken care of too. We have been keeping a list of everything that was damaged or broken.

I did go down to the train room. Man, what a mess. There was a bit of good news there too. None of my 6 brass engines on the layout hit the floor. They were turned onto their sides on the layout but, other than that looked to be no the worse for wear. I wish I could say the same for all of the structures and most of the other engines and cars. I counted 26 cars left on the layout. That is not good, considering there were probably 400+ cars once parked on the layout. Some can never be replaced without a lot of searching. Brands like Ulrich, Globe, Varney and such will be tough to find, and may cost a premium even if I can find them.

I guess having such good news is a blessing.

Phillip, I know of a preacher that was a member of a notorious biker group that was affiliated with Hell's Angels back in the '70's. He found Christ in prison and was called to go into the ministry. Talk about a head shaker when he told you he was a minister!!!!

Jeffrey, Bottom line....you need to take extra care of yourself. Diabetes completely screw a person up. It really screws up a persons complete physiology, from the nervous system, to the circulation system, immune system, I believe it even screws up the bowel movements. Be careful. And slow down. You ain't Superman any more. And that's a fact.

Jim, I have to say that you are correct. Seems that one of the illegals is singin' like a jailbird. They have another 10-12 people that the Sheriff wants to bring in for questioning. Seems that this is just the tip of the iceberg.

I also called a security company to install a high tech security system. A rep will be out Thursday to take my order and give me a price. I want it all, complete with cameras and such. I wish I could lay a mine field and line the perimeter with Claymores. Maybe install lasers...... Wishful thinkin', I guess.

I told the sheriff that the thieves were lucky I wasn't home. They would be goin' back to Mexico in a black bag. Then I showed him what was inside the gun safe. His eyes got real big and he said that I was better equipped than their SWAT team. He asked if Armageddon ever were to happen, if he could hang out here at the house. lol He also said that he was glad that the perps didn't get into the safe. Me, too. That could have gotten ugly real fast.

Well, goin' out for pizza and a couple of beers...gotta run.

Bob

Bob that's the most upbeat report I've seen from you since this whole thing started, glad the ol' Grandfather Clock is OK. I'm sure if you carefully sift thru the layout debris, you'll find more of those discontinued-brand cars that are at least repairable.

Barry I think you nailed it, I knew there was a phrase for that. I've also remember hearing some people call it "situational ethics", i.e., "It may be wrong for you to do it but its OK for me"...

That actually happens quite a lot.

BTW, some good news on the clock and brass loco's.

Bob
Maybe you can get live camera feed so you can monitor from your "Southern" home.

Phillip, I think a motorcycle riding preacher is pretty cool. :) You'd only be mildly scary to a few people. Do go ahead and make those safety mods to your bike. I'm sure God has some work for you down here and we'd like to see you around for a while.

Ken, sounds like a boring and frustrating day but at least you get paid to be bored and frustrated. Could be worse nowadays. There does seem to be a problem with a lot of people now regarding the right and wrong thing.

Jeffrey, glad your mom is OK and that she can make it to the family reunion. The one big advange of the central line is no more poking while it's in. I hope the white cell aglutanation test shows the epicenter of your problem.

Terry, I like the one with the bat. I've got that saved. :D

Edit: Bob, missed your post somehow. That's really good news about the grandfather clock and your brass engines. Not so good about the rest of the layout but keep an eye on e-bay to see if anything you recognize shows up there. It's become a popular place to fence stolen train stuff. It is amazing how much litter there is when things that were nicely in containers get thrown around. :(

We had the same problem in our county but it was lots of summer homes along the coast that were being burglarized in the winter. One guy would stake out a house for a day to make sure no one was there and then they'd hit it the next night. They were using illegals to do actual job but it was local thugs that were doing the directing. If they hit 130 houses up there, this was a highly organized gang and I suspect there had to be at least 50 people involved, since they usually hit multiple houses a night. We broke up one ring that had about 30 members and got the four locals that were the head of the operation. This was when the wholesale destruction thing started. One of the ringleaders rolled over on the other guys and we were able to round up the rest of them pretty quickly. They used illegals because they work cheap and they know they probably won't do any serious jail time if they are caught. Only a few of the top guys among the illegals even knew who they were working for. They told the illegals to trash the houses because all the houses belonged to people who hated Hispanics. The real reason is that it's a lot harder to get prints off a bunch of trash than it is off a house where things just get stolen but the house isn't half-destroyed.

I know it's the closing the barn door after the horse has left but I feel a lot safer with my alarm system. Mine is both silent and audible. I hope to scare them away first with a 120 DB siren and, if that doesn't work, the central station should have the police here in a few minutes. I don't have video monitoring but I'm thinking about installing it since it's wireless and relatively cheap. There are systems that would allow you to watch the house over an internet connection when you're not there, but a really loud siren and having the cops on the way is still your best protection.

I'm sure those guys don't realize how lucky they were you weren't home. I've only had my house broken into one time and that was in the middle of the night, while we were home. I heard the glass break and had Jean call 911 while I grabbed the shotgun. I got him just after he got through the living room window. He was extremely cooperative with that Remington 870 in his ear. I lived in the city limits and the PD dispatcher wanted me to put down the gun before the officers came in. I told Jean to tell them I was an off-duty deputy and I'd put down the gun when they had him in cuffs. I got some really speedy service that night. :D Turns out he had an old Webley 38 stuck in his waistband, which I never saw until they dragged him upright after cuffing him. Good thing he didn't have it in his hand when I saw him or the outcome would have been a lot different. I'm sure the sheriff never realized he had that kind of firepower anywhere in his county. Damn good thing you are responsible and had such a good safe or the outcome of this would have been a lot more serious. At least an Ulrich boxcar can't kill anyone. :( Have a beer on me and count your blessings tonight.

A gloomy, cloudy day down here today. No more rain but a lot cooler than normal, with a high of only 68. Looks like we could get some more rain Tuesday night and Wednesday. I have done nothing productive today on the layout but my brother and did manage to get two grab bars installed on our garden tub walls. I don't know why those weren't put in when the house was built since it's only eight years old. The studs were really difficult to locate, even after we found the first one. It seems they are not on even on center as one set was 17" and the next was 15". I don't know if that was by design or just great workmanship. Supposed Tropical Storm Grace has already been absorbed into a cold front headed to the British Isles and all the models have backed off on developing anything out of that disorganized mess east of the Lesser Antilles so it looks like the tropics will remain quiet.

Terry, if'n I can ever get up there permanently, there will be no "southern home". Life keeps dragging me back to Indiana for some crazy reasons. This last foray started with me giving away my goddaughter, that was in July!!!! And then a friend passed away and his children asked me to be the administrator of his estate. So it goes.

But, this trip, would have happened even if it hadn't been for the disaster. I have to put the boat away for the winter anyway. I planned on doing that in a few weeks anyhow. Looks like we might get back to Indiana next week some time.

By the way Phillip, we bought that Grandfather clock in Wolcottville, I think. It's a small metropolis, well, town, no, spot on the map just west of Bloomington. The story is that we had taken a cruise down that way to check out the fall colors. We were in a 1968 Camaro convertible. We saw the clock, but the shop wouldn't keep it because I didn't know when I could pick it up. So, it rode back to New Haven, Indiana in the back seat. Might chilly trip back home let me tell ya. Top down and 70mph on a 45 degree day doesn't quite make for a comfortable trip.Top down, windows up and the heater blasin' away with a Grandfather clock in the back seat. Must have been a sight headin' up I69.

ken, some of the cars fared pretty well. The passenger cars took the biggest hit. I noticed a lot of the freight cars had damaged stirrups, couplers missing, some are broken beyond repair. The damaged stirrups I can repair, busted bodies might be another story. The biggest problem with the engines is that I think I may have lost most of my NYC and Monon fleet. The PRR took a bit of a hit too. And I saw quite few C&O diesels on the floor too. I will do the inventory tomorrow.

The engines were mostly P2K, Genesis, Rivarossi steamers, Mantua, BLI, and Atlas mixed with some updated Athearn BB engines.

The shelving that was torn down was almost all higher end engines with various rolling stock from a bunch of different manufacturers. A lot of my "older" stuff was displayed and not run on the layout. Most of my passenger train collection were displayed on the shelves. And some of those cars were brass that I had picked up at trains shows for little or nothing, though still good quality and in great shape. And yet some were pieced together from "junk" boxes of original parts.

But, I'm afraid that I will have to rebuild most of the layout. I think I can reuse most of the track if I am careful in removing it and don't break any ties. There is a train shop in Onaway. I may have him give me an estimate on the entire layout as if it were still together and claim it as a total loss. I absolutely have no clue as to how much I've spent on building it. And, I'm afraid I don't want to know. I know it was a lot. $10 here, $100 there, another $200 someplace else......and I never left a train show without dropping at least $300-$400. Many times I've spent 2x-3x that, when buying a Brass engine or some other such thing that bit my fancy.

By the way, the pizza was de-e-e-e-elishus and the beer mighty cold with fosty mugs. Does anyone remember Godfather's Pizza? Phillip, you might being a Hoosier. They didn't sell their pizzas by the inch, 14-inch, 16-inch, ect. They sold it by the pound. This pizza parlor would rival Godfather's. Absolutely the best pizza's ever!!!!! I probably have 15# of pizza that we couldn't eat in the 'fridge. Looks like I'm having pizza for breakfast in the morning. A flashback to my younger bachelor days. lol Maybe not 15#, but I'll bet there's 10# in there.

Well, gotta go. I need a piece of this pizza.

Bob

Does anyone remember Godfather's Pizza? ...

I remember Godfather's very well! :D While courting my wife, we would eat there every couple of weeks, when we were both in college in Mobile.

We were down in Mobile just last week, and would you believe it, its still open! Same location for over 40 yrs! We stopped there to see if it was as good as it used to be. It was!:D:D

Don't know how it survived, or even kept the name, when the chain disappeared, but there is at least one GF Pizza still around!:)

I almost forgot. I have placed the info on the Dec train show here in Birmingham in the "Train Show" section. Its Sat Dec 5th, 9am-4pm at the First Baptist Church of Zion City, 1104 Gene Reed Rd. Birmingham, Al. Admission $5 for adults, $2 for children 8-12, and children under 8 free.

There is a copy of the flyer the club has put out in there, along with a map. The location is very easy to get to.

It's hard to believe that it's finally time for the train shows to begin. I sure miss them during the summer months here, but then, I'll miss boating when the white stuff hits the ground too.

Carey, there was a Godfather's in Muncie, Indiana, the home of Ball State University. They had a tremendous slow-pitch softball team. We used to eat there as a team whenever we played in Muncie. It got to be a joke between the two teams because we were sponsored by restaurant called Rosie's Little Italy. Seems like Godfather's was in every college town in America. I sure miss that place. They had to be among the best pizzas ever made. and that comes from a pizza connoisseur. Second best was a place on Rush Street in Chicago, though I can't remember the name.

Good morning.

It's 68 and cloudy. The high will be around 87 and there's a chance of rain.

Not much going on today. My home health nurse will come out today to change the dressing on my central line then I have to be at the the hospital no later than 1 pm to get the bone scan done. The rest of the day is pretty much mine to do anything I please. My parents set off on their trip to Pennsylvania this morning and I have to take care of their dogs while they're gone. I usually don't spend much time at their home while they're traveling as their big house feels so empty and barren when they're not around.

Bob Rosie's Little Italy is one fine place to eat. It has been several years since I have been in there. The first time was while working my boss and a couple of other guys I worked with went up to Bell Fiber products to tour the facility. My job at the time was packaging starters and alternators for GM's Genuine AC Delco Parts after market and original equipment parts. I used a ton load of cardboard every day and after the tour the folks from Bell took us out to Rosie's. When you get back to down here maybe one fri evening we could meet at Rosie's for supper at least that sounds really good to me..

Bob, I'd have loved to see that! It's not every day you see a clock sticking out of a convertible! And if you get anywhere near Anderson in your travels to Indiana, give me a holler. I'll buy ya a cup of coffee!

Good morning folks

It was a sunny and crisp 45 F this morning as I hit the highway. High will be 68 F.

My son went back to school yesterday. He did OK except he thinks he should be able to catch up on all the work he missed in a day. He met with his Science and Social Studies teachers yesterday to go over his work. Today he will sit down with his Math teacher. The only two who he is having issues with is German and Language Arts. We will keep an eye on it and necessary make a call to the guidance counselor. Yesterday he was getting a little frustrated with his homework. We kept trying to get him to step away from but he wouldn’t. Finally time to go to Boy Scouts came and we made him got to Scouts. He had a good troop meeting and then when he got home he sat down with his homework and breezed through all the areas that were giving him trouble earlier in the day.

No modeling last night.

Tonight my daughter has flute lesson. This will be an extended one to make up for the one she missed last week.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Try a hoosier cabinet on the roof of an Audi A4!! That is a trick I'll tell you!!

We're going to be rained on again. Rain---heavy at times--starting this afternoon and ending sometime tomorrow will be accompanied by winds from the west at 50-70kmh. Possiblity of thunderstorms as well this evening and overnight. Temperature today will be 17C while low tonight will be 10C. Tomorrow will start the cool down---by the weekend highs will be around 9C while the lows will be 3C

I get to build up some more trestle bents today---hopefully I'll have enough to finish off one section this weekend so's I can get pix of it done!:):)

Bob: It's good that the grandfather clock did not get trashed---:D:D
The stuff about the gang thing makes it more plausible that anything could be going on anymore:(
