He did mention that he'd probably have to spend some time in the hospital, so they could bring that foot infection under control.

AH-HAH!! That nails it then! Hopefully he'll get better under the guys care ---:)

----------------------------------------

Good Morning-

We's at a chilly 4C this morning with the high going to 15C. A mix of sun/cloud clearing to sunny afternoon is slotted for us--then it'll cloud back up so that Friday will be back to an all day rain.

Homecoming is on this weekend at the university so I'll be up to mine ears in helping the guys who went in the '80's try to figure the place out. I went there then and I've spent time doing work there over the years so in one way I've grown used to the buildup that happened----that and weekend seminar series and ---:rolleyes: The weekend is busy ----:D

Have a good'un people!

If you'll all indulge me for just a moment........

For me it's kind of a sad but happy morning. A good friend of mine has gone home to be with the Lord. While I'm happy that she's no longer in pain and she's with her Lord, My wife and I miss her.

Leslie was only 37 years old, and seven years ago was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. She fought it, had all the surgeries, and the doc's thought they got it all. I recieved word this morning that she lost her battle.

Leslie was a 10-year veteran of the Fishers Police Department and was also a member of the S.W.A.T. team. She most recently served as a member of the Special Investigations Unit focusing on exposing and preventing Human Trafficking.

On the job, she was a tough as anyone, yet compassionate when the need arose. Off the job, she was a true lady, a class act. I've been proud to call her a friend. She will most definately be missed.

A good friend of mine wrote this, and I think it fits.........

"Homesick"

You're in a better place, I've heard a thousand times
And at least a thousand times I've rejoiced for you
But the reason why I'm broken, the reason why I cry
Is how long must I wait to be with you

I close my eyes and I see your face
If home's where my heart is then I'm out of place
Lord, won't you give me strength to make it through somehow
I've never been more homesick than now

Help me Lord cause I don't understand your ways
The reason why I wonder if I'll ever know
But, even if you showed me, the hurt would be the same
Cause I'm still here so far away from home

I close my eyes and I see your face
If home's where my heart is then I'm out of place
Lord, won't you give me strength to make it through somehow
I've never been more homesick than now

In Christ, there are no goodbye
And in Christ, there is no end
So I'll hold onto Jesus with all that I have
To see you again
To see you again

And I close my eyes and I see your face
If home's where my heart is then I'm out of place
Lord, won't you give me strength to make it through somehow
Won't you give me strength to make it through somehow
Won't you give me strength to make it through somehow

I've never been more homesick than now

Jim and Rex- nothing is scheduled in Birmingham for train shows until spring.

Mikey;

Our crosstown rivals, Smokey City MMRC, are having a train show & sale I believe Dec 5th, out in Roebuck. I'll get a flier from the LHS and post the day and times with a map to the church.

Been a quiet couple o' months at the ole homestead. Sept 1, my wife and I had our 35th anniversary, and the 28th, my 56th birthday.;):D
Been working on the layout alot, and hope to be laying rail in Selma by December.:D:D:D The rail is in place all the way to Burnsville, and its completely in place. The layout is completely wired at this point.
Changed the #2 level of the layout some to decrease the amount of operator congestion that would be developing right at Selma, if that large coal complex were left where it was. Yall can see the whole track plan, with the changes, at my website. That's that Http thingie in my sig.
Been on the road some back and forth to Little Rock, to see daughter. Here she is 8 months pregnant and she doesn't even look it. Most of her friends hate her for it too!:p She has given me a job however...thats to buy Aiden all of his trains! I think I can handle that!:p

Phillip, 37 is way too young to die. :( Sounds like she was a good cop and a good person. I'm sure she will be fondly remembered by all those who knew here, even people who might not have been her friends. My sympathy to you and her family.

Rex, have fun. Might get some rain on Friday but the weather should be perfect otherwise. Watch out for that lightning.

It sounded like Jeffrey might have to go to the hospital jail for a few days for some IV antibiotics for his foot infections. Those things are really hard to keep under control in a diabetic but it's better now than even a few years ago, so I'm hoping it will do the trick for him.

CJ, congrats on the anniversay and happy birthday, old man. :) Too bad the power was out when I was up there but I'm coming up that way again in December to see the big train show at the museum so maybe we can get together then.

Well, since my brother, the eletronics engineer is here, the first thing that happened is my Digitrax DCS 50 decided to start shorting out on DC. We were trying to get a DC engine running correctly beore we installed a decoder and it kept shorting out. Went through everything we could think of to find the short but no luck. He thought the motor was bad but I could make it spin fine on another DC source. That's when I though, what the heck, let's try another DC engine. Sure enough, same problem. Cleared all the cars off the layout and checked all the track and no obvious reason for the short. Went to eat lunch, came back, and the DC engine ran fine for about five minutes before it started shorting again. Rats! Had to be the control station. I called Dave at Digitrax and he said it was indeed a failing DC circuit. Rats! I could send it back to him and it would cost $50 to look at plus parts for repair, which he said could run as high as $150 if they replaced it with a refurb. Rats! This one was used to begin with so I think I probably would have ended up with a refurb. I found a brand new on e-bay for $130 and thought that would be the best course of action so bought it. Now we'll see if DC works again when I get the new unit. I hate installing decoders unless I know it runs well on DC first.

Beautiful weather down here with a high of 80 and low of 55, which is fall for us. Looks like we may be in for a rainy one next week but we can always use a little more, as long is doesn't start flooding again. The tropics are unbelievably quiet, except in the Pacific, which is normal for an El Nino year. September had the least hurricanes since 1950 and this was the first September on record where at least a tropical depression didn't reach the continental US. I still think they are lining up out there, just waiting for us to take our cruise. :D

Phillip-We cannot choose our relatives, but we can choose our friends. This lady sounds like one I would chosen if I had the opportunity.
Treasuring the memories will help overcome the loss of her friendship.

Chris- If we didn't care, we would not offer so much unsolicited advice.
Or, maybe, we just like messing with your head!
You decide.:D
Keep us updated on your job search as someone MIGHT have a useful suggestion. I know there will be some tough times ahead for you, but remember a work force reduction is not your fault.

Did Rex say he was away until Sunday night? I might should stop by his house to check on his dogs....and his train layout .... and his refrigerator?

Phillip;

I really feel for your lost. Its tougher to lose a friend than a family member sometimes.

Its all part of a greater plan that we will never understand until we join all of our lost ones.

Be comforted with His word.

Its like the situation with my wife, within a year she lost her father, her mother, and her brother.

Mikey;

A restatement from earlier.

Our crosstown rivals, Smokey City MMRC, are having a train show & sale I believe Dec 5th, out in Roebuck. I'll get a flier from the LHS and post the day and times with a map to the church.

Thank's Mikey, Everyones advise was great and a big help! And trust me I thought out my actions carefully and thoughtfully! As for the job search I'm going to take the next couple of weeks and plaster the town with flyers and such also I plan to get another mower soon. also being winter is comming I'm going to try to get a temp. job until next spring!

Phil, sorry to here about your lose:(! It's sad when Public servents pass away:(!

Hey, Hey, Hey.....Rex is away! I say,"PARTYAAAAAAAAA!" Hurry guys let's get the party started before Rex get's back!:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Phillip, friendships are forever, my friend. Take solace in the memories and she will be forever beside you and in your heart. My prayers to you and her family. And everyone is right, 37 is too young.

Jim, I had a similar experience with a brand new Digitrax when I went to DCC. I got mine replaced for free and they sent me three new decoders for my trouble. Even got to send it back to Digitrax freight collect. I love those people. My unit is now almost 8 years old, I'm waiting on it to decide enough is enough and crash. I may upgrade when that happens. I have already replaced the booster, just a couple of years ago.

I have a nephew that is a geek. I had been talking to him about setting up a computer to run the trains. The problem we have run into is that all of the controllers we have found are proprietary and can't be used on a foreign OS/CS. So, I've kind of given up on the idea. He did suggest that we take the program from a true system and integrate the stuff needed into the computer. I don't know much about that stuff, but he thinks it might work. Still, I hate to give up a unit and try, only to have it fail. Then I'd be left with a pile of junk.

Chris, the party will have to be without the 'Bama cheerleaders. I think they have a previous engagement, maybe a game. If we have the party Saturday, we could always invite the "Hogs" of Washington Redskin fame. Wouldn't be the same though.

And we couldn't have the party Sunday, Rex is due back later in the day. We wouldn't have time to clean up the mess.

Jeffrey, if he is indeed in the hospital, is in serious trouble. Diabetics and infections to the extremities is serious ca-ca. The problem lies in the diabetes affecting circulation to areas like the feet and legs. Sure hope they get it under control. My Mom had a similar deal, They ended up leaving the wound open to keep moisture from the wound and keep it dry. She couldn't even wear a sock on the foot. Still it took her months to heal rather than the few weeks for healthy individuals.

But, I think he may have over done some things during his recovery. Like mowing yards, working on his layout, even just walking around. I know it's hard to stay down and heal. I went through three spinal surgeries, two on my lower back and one on my neck, and pushed recovery. But, that all comes from me thinking I was still 26 and not 56. I had several knee surgeries in my younger days. On more than one occasion I was back playing softball within two weeks after the operations. The doctor couldn't believe it. Growing old has a way of slowing you down, even if you don't want to.

Prayers be with you, Jeffrey.

Bob

Hello dere---

Gonna be a busy one in the weekend---got homecoming in the weekend for the university--have weekend business org. seminars to conduct this weekend and there is my sisters birthday to squeeze in there as well---

Hopefully Jeff will be a little more slower on the running around on those feet of his---I know that with my diabetes and heart arrythmias one can only do so much---"up to a point----up to a point"---was my fathers saying for things like these

Jim That always worries me---how long do these controllers last---and they do the dangest things sometimes too:eek:

Chris Did the beer kegs arrive OK? I know Dan already had a few--

Have a good'un people:):)

Good morning everyone.

I've been busy at work while the owner was away. Well, he's back and he owes me one. So far I have received three days off and $225. Not bad, I could have just been stuck working. Apparently, he was impressed with how I handled a week from hell at the store.

Philip, I'm sorry to hear of your friends passing.

Chris, keep your chin up and your head down. You don't want to get hit in the face with flying you know what!

Jeffrey, good luck with the feet.

Progress continues on the layout. With a high of fifty degress today, my window of outdoor painting is closing quickly. That's okay, it gave me an excuse to buy another kit yesterday!

I hope you all have a good day.

Good Morning All!

Philip...I am sorry to hear about your friend. It sounds like she was a very special person and she will be greatly missed.

Jeffrey...Hope you're back soon and feeling much better!

Bob...I have been so fortunate, I reckon. I have never had surgery...haven't even stayed overnight in the hospital. Have had a couple of minor injuries that required an ER visit, but that's it. Your post made me hurt!

Corey...Congrats on the successful week at work! Good job!! :)

I hope everyone has a great weekend...and BTW...WOOHOO ROCKIES!!!!
We made the playoffs!!! WOOOOHOOOO!!!! Go purple! :D:D:D

Sandy

Good morning from Wetville

Getting more rain today so we's be looking to fire up the R/C boats in the ol' backyard--

Going to the university this afternoon a little earlier so that I can find a DVD from Special Collections at the library. This DVD features a bunch of home movies that a minister did in the 1950's documenting a series of villages/towns that he was working in southern Ontario---in these you see all kinds of details such as cars from the 1920's through the 1950's, horse and buggies, single horses and what all else. Many buildings were not even weather beaten--some yes, well, looked a little used but generally did not look beaten in, or, sooted up.I think these kinds of things might be, in one way or t'other, available in either historical society libraries or public libraries that have special collections or such----apparently there seems to be a number of places that are coming up with these home movies and such---so who knows.

Otherwise a busy weekend for me----have a good'un:):):D:D

Mornin' all!

Thanks for the prayers and well wishes. I know her family appreciates it, and so do we.

If anyone should feel motivated, please consider a donation to World Hope International (click “Donate Now” at www.worldhope.org with the comment, “Leslie Hulse Memorial Fund, anti-trafficking”). This is in accordence with Leslie's wishes. (It shows her true heart too)

Tomorrow I'm leading a ride through southern Indiana. This has been in the planning for a while now. I will be riding with my passenger pegs down in honor of my friend.
