Good morning everybody. .... Weather was nice yesterday but not today. It's raining and getting cold.

My good model train friend from Illinois will be visiting here over the weekend. Reggie, the model railroader, is the name sake for my scrap yard (Reggie's Junk Yard).

Better tell Reggie to rescue some of that old tin in the scrapyard. Gonna be worth a fortune just about when he's ready to retire.

Well I didn't get a chance to work on Oliver's adventure today. I was busy for a while showing a visitor what i have to do when I rebuild an Apple IIe computer. He was quite amazed at how complex an old computer like that can be yet be simple enough that it can be torn down so easily for maintenance. Nothing much else went on except for picking my way through the bugs in the new Model railroader forums software.

Time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Good Morning and Happy Saturday!

When I went to bed, shortly after midnight, the temperature was 54°, and it is now 38°. Some guessers say the temperature will continue to drop throughout the day, while others insist the temperature will go back up toward 50° as the day wears on. Wish they would get their stories straight. At least it will be mostly sunny, with a chance of snow flurries / "lake effect" snow.

On the layout front, I did get some of the new - replacement road bed glued down last night, so I am making some progress. I spend entirely too much time watching NHL Western conference hockey games, and not enough time working on the layout.

Now that I'm up for an hour, and have had breakfast, i feel like I should have stayed in bed. I need to get out for a while........:):):)!!!

Have a good weekend!

Joe

Good morning folks.

I'd like to introduce myself! My name's Corey, nice to meet you!:D

Edit: Oh, and it's THREE degrees right now!

Just kidding, I haven't been gone for that long I hope. I'm still bogged down with replacing the trim and doors in my basement. Everything is stained and varnished and I'm making good progress with installing it. The family room is done as well as most of the guest bedroom. The train room is next so I hope by the end of tomorrow it will be time to get back at it. Unfortunately, what little progress I made reviving the layout earlier this fall has to be dismantled in order to install the window trim and baseboards. Thank God I haven't soldered the track yet! I have a mandate by my nephew that it needs to be somewhat operational by Christmas. If not, I may lose my favorite Uncle status!:D

I'm still working six days a week so it's difficult to find time for remodeling and trains. Oh well, I spent a good five years playing with trains with no house duties while I rented so I guess it I'm paying my dues as a home owner again.

I hope everyone is doing well and has a very Happy Thanksgiving if I don't make it back on here before then.

Have a nice day!

Good morning. It's 45° with 100% humidity. The high will be 49°and feel like 44°.

Looks like it's gonna be a wet day. I don't foresee any interruptions today so I may get a chance to make Oliver's life difficult. He got a break yesterday.

No other plans.

Happy Saturday morning y'all. Welcome back Corey. Haven't posted here in almost a week so I figured I better say something, lest I, too, need to reintroduce myself! I've had very little time for mrr this week since I was doing Dads Taxi Service; my 15yr-old daughter is in her school's Drama Club, and she had late evening rehearsals every day.

During last Friday's op session, one of my friends who also models steel mill architecture told me he had the remnants of a Walthers Coke Oven kit, and if I'd just use pieces from that to add an extra battery of ovens, my coke mill would be "right on target." Well... I picked up the kit from him on Tuesday, and it had almost everything in it - except the oven door panels! But that's ok - scratchbuilding structures is one of my favorite sub-hobbies. So I wound up buying $30 worth of Evergreen styrene strips and sheets to make my own oven doors. Luckily it's mostly linear and rectangular, so with careful measurement of the 150+ pieces I need to cut, I should be able to replicate the Walthers panel. I hope to have a few hours starting at noontime to head down to the workshop and get busy with the Chopper.

Have a great day everyone!

Well Oliver is halfway through his second coach now. Thus far I've programmed in two items he must find, a blue box and a computer disk. I won't tell you what's in the box but it's important and has to do with something he already passed, meaning he'll have to backtrack. There's also an old Indian in this car who will give Oliver a hard time and could even kill him if he's not careful. The observation car and these two coaches have been fairly easy to deal with. The next cars design is a bit different. Think about how the coaches in the Hogwart's Express are laid out and you'll have a fair idea.

Good morning. It's sunny, windy, and 25 outside. Supposed to go to a high of 38, but the wind will make it seem a lot colder.
I had to deliver a travel trailer to a spot about 50 miles from Nashville Friday. It rained from Asheville to there, rained all the time I was there, rained while hooking up to the person's trade-in, rained all the way back to Asheville yesterday. And of course about 20 miles from the starting point yesterday, the wind started blowing about 40mph from the North. Nothing like a little crosswind to make things interesting while towing a trailer. I got to watch tractor-trailers going down the road sideways from the wind. And did I mention it rained most of the way?
Anyway, back to trains...
I don't remember if I updated everybody on the saga of Terry's trains, and I'm too lazy to scroll up and see, so here's a recap of the important stuff for the week: I got a replacement decoder for the BLI engine, installed it, and the decoder promptly went up in smoke. I got a brand new Athearn RTR SD45 last Saturday, installed a decoder in it, and that went up in smoke. A replacement decoder also went up in smoke. I sent the BLI engine back to BLI, the motor back to Athearn. I got replacement handrails for my DD40AX, and installed them Thursday, and I purchased a new Atlas Gold GP40-2 in SP yesterday. I programmed it with the better sound files I have on my computer, and configured the Mars light so it functions correctly. I'll be taking it to the train club today, and letting it run for a while before speed matching it with my other equipment.
That's all for now, further updates as more disasters occur. Have a good Sunday...

The lady on WFMT says the windchill is 11 below, and I believe it. Someone on DairyStateMom's Twitter feed says, "A body in motion tends to stay in motion. A body at rest tends to stay under the comforter when it's so freaking cold out."

But we are up, amazingly.

Good day to all...

Hopefully your streak of disasters will end with the Atlas GP40-2. Good luck!

Good Morning:

It's cold outside. When I ventured out of bed it was 21° @ 0710. Belmar-Farmingdale was reporting 23°. It's sunny and supposed to go up as high as 33°.

I did not even venture out yesterday, content to watching portions of four different NHL games. Between games, I did manage to glue down some replacement cork roadbed. after I sand it smooth, I'm going to add superelevation, and relay the flex track. The curve in question is going to work out to be about 27.25" radius, most of which is on a 2% grade. The goal was to eliminate negative superelevation, vertical curves, and low joints. Bumping the 26" radius curve out 1¼" is an added bonus.

I have not looked at what sports are on TV today, I really want to get moving on the layout. Once I get into a game, that's it, forgetaboutit!

Have a good Sunday.

Joe

So far my only plans for today are to make Oliver's life difficult. The next coach in the train is an old one that has a corridor on one side of the car. Seating is in small compartments with six seats each. A car like takes longer to search and there's more places to hide items, bad guys and surprises.

Other than that I have no plans.

Good Morning since it's too cold out to be afternoon. Today is freezing with partly freezing! I stayed up way late into early morning. Got up a while ago to watch my auction end, and will soon be having coffee in bed. I won another Kato GE 4400 series locomotive....for a sweet deal! And now the sun is coming out.

Well Oliver made it through the coach he was searching yesterday and is about to enter an old style coach that has seating compartments. Who's ever ridden in one of those? In this one there's a corridor down one side of the car going from one end to the other. The side of the corridor that fronts onto the seating area is lined with sliding doors. Each door allows access to a small compartment with two rows of seats, three seats to a row. The two rows face each other and there's a small table in between. If you want to play games or cards or have a snack you have to bring your own. There's room under the seats for small carry-ons and an overhead rack for things like briefcases, attaches, etc. There are small hooks on the wall to either side of the entryway to hang coats. If it's a deluxe compartment there are four seats, two to a row with a small storage compartment between the seats in each row. Again there's a small table between the two rows of seats but this time the table has a chess-checker pattern and has game pieces for chess and checkers and there's packs of cards for those who would rather play cards. There's also a call button for snacks and such. There's a lavatory at one end of the car and a small food service for tyhe deluxe compartments at the other end. Now that's my kind of railcar. A car like that probably never existed but in Oliver's adventure it exists.

NEWS FLASH! There's a terminator loose in the front half of the train! Oliver's life just got much more interesting!

Nothing much else went on today.
