Good morning folks

It was 68 F with a light mist falling this grey morning. Our high today will be 81 F and there may be a mysterious glowing object in the sky at some point today.

We did not have any heavy rain last night. However, in many places the flood waters are still rising. The Department of Transportation and the Governor’s Office issued a statement requesting that people avoid any unnecessary travel on the roads in the eastern third of Pennsylvania. Some of the people I work with have relatives that have been evacuated in the Wilkes-Barre and Harrisburg areas due to the flooding.

Not much else to report. Last night was kind of mundane catch up on the little things around the house night.

My son has a football meeting at school this afternoon. My daughter has a volleyball match against Garnet Valley today. Tomorrow they have a tournament.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Morning all....

Jeffrey, do you do repair for others or are you repairing trains from junk located in other sources? I'm just curious as you seem to have a lot of engines you work on.
I don't do repairs for anybody but myself or on units I intend to sell or trade. The last big batch of locos I got were given to me. Most were 1960;s, 1970's vintage. I restored most of them to running condition and sold some to get some much needed $$$. Some I kept and some others I traded off. I traded a Mehano 2-10-2 and a remotored antique Athearn D&H PA A/B set for a pair of Stewart/Kato F9's with bad motors, a Proto 2000 BL2 that required a motor change and an E7 (Proto E6 chassis wearing a Trainline E7 shell) that required some minor repair. Both of the Stewarts got Athearn type motors (that was fun) and the Stewart B unit got Proto 1000 AAR switcher trucks to replace the trashed Kato trucks. That was lots of fun as it required major surgery on the frame.

Good morning. It's 71° and sunny. The high will be 86° and it will be sunny. Chance of rain is absolutely zip.

Well, I guess today will be used cleaning up the mess left by Gomez Addams. The layout tends to look like a big train wreck after one of my big rebuild project frenzy's. I hope Ken is as happy with his new locos as I am with mine. I'm going to see if I can find a pair of descent looking horns for the E7. The Trainline horns look absolutely gawky and toy-like and stand out like a couple of sore thumbs. Just about anything would be an improvement.

My ankle is still yelling at me for all the stress I put on it Wednesday. The swelling has gone down a bit.

Cool hobby... I was just curious as to how you had aquired so many engines. That is part of the hobby I hope to get back to one day. I used to do a similar thing in HS with Lionels. I'd trade for them or pick them up for little to nothing and fix them. I had the manuals and you'd be surprised (well maybe not) at what you could get for little to nothing. I do know when I sold them all those years ago, I got a lot more for them than I had in them.
I don't look to make a lot off them. Just $10 here and $20 there. I sold off an Olympia brass 2-6-0 that had a dead motor for $30. I had absolutely no use for it and didn't see any point of putting anything into it. On the other hand I fixed the motor in a 60's era Tyco/Mantua 2-8-2 and sold it off for $40. Out of a batch of about two dozen locos that needed work I kept a 70's era Athearn SD45, a 70's era Atlas PRR FP7A, a 60's era Penn Line PRR F7 A/B set, a 70's era Rivarossi PRR U25C, a modern DCC Ready Atlas H24-66 Trainmaster, an 80's era Pemco Southern 2-6-0, a 60's era Hobbytown B&O GP7 and an 80's Bachmann Santa Fe F9A. The majority of the rest were fixed and sold off or traded.

I got two new boxcars today. Accurail 50' hi-cubes. BN 287000 and GN (Georgia Northeastern) 8011. They've been weighted to five ounces each and fitted with Kadee couplers.

Well what can I say? Someone sent it to me and dang it, I'm NOT RUNNING ALONE!! HURRY WE GOTTA GO their on to us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey guys.

Jeff, your locomotive debunking sounds like alot if fun. What gave you got in store for that BL2? I need one to repaint for a local tourist line, so if your looking to sell it I'd love to hear about it. Please, send me a pm if you wish to sell.

Not much going on here this week. I started school. Plans for the weekend are to hang out with some friends.

Have a good one everybody,

Matt

Sorry Matt, it's not for sale. I traded my 2-10-2 and a D&H PA A/B set for the BL2, two F9's and an E7 when what I really wanted was the BL2. I had to at least break even so the other three make up for that.

Well, we're really finally over Lee! Labor Day the NWS here was clocking winds over 50mph. In a neighborhood just about a mile from my house, many, many trees were blown down, several looked like someone just picked them up and turned them upside down! I counted three houses in that area with trees through the roofs, and one even made it all the way down to the foundation. I believe that it was the result of a small spin up tornado that is common with these systems. The weather guessers said it was so bad here due to the fact of us being in the northeast quadrant of the storm. In tropical systems like tropical storms and hurricanes, that section has the worse winds. Places to the west of us, like where Rex is, had very little in the way of winds, and places to our east like Talledega, and Anniston had almost none at all.

Later that day around 6, our power went out, and stayed out until sometime Wed. morning. Radio said over 80,000 in the the B'ham area were without power due to trees on power lines etc. We spent Tuesday in a hotel so we could at least have things like hot coffee, hot food, LIGHTS, etc. Hated to spend that money though. The real reason we did it was because of my Grandson. If it was just my wife and I, we would have done as we've done in the past. Got out the Coleman lanterns and the Coleman stove and went camping! Can't really do things like that with a 23 month old living with us. When we got back, our driveway looked like it was growing a bunch of little trees. It was just blow down from the storm but you literally couldn't see the driveway for all that was on it.

Thurs my friend Warren came over and we worked some more on the layout. Got the upper level roadbed started and sanded. After that some ties were laid. When they dry, they'll get stained, and rail will be installed.

Had to return to the MD with this persistent conjunctivitis I got. Found out after having the eyes dyed with Floursein, that it isn't my eyes. Its my eyelids that are infected! Not only that but its a staff infection. With my history of MRSA, that's the last thing I need. I have new drugs for the eyes, but when I apply them, because they are so thick, I can't see worth a crap for about 2 hours. Everything stays blurry until the medicine gets washed out by the tears. They then stay somewhat blurry until the next time the drugs are applied.

The Dr. says that if this medicine doesn't work, I gets my butt put into the hospital for about a week or two of IV antibiotics. @#%#&&^**@#!

How well I know the name of that tune! I was hospitalized a couple of times for resistant staph infections myself. Not fun! The first time I was stuck in the hospital during Thanksgiving one year because of it. The nurses were afraid to come into my room. I was a very unhappy camper. They had me on some really powerful antibiotics. The second time I was fitted with a home iv port so I could administer the antibiotics myself at home. I've had two such ports, one in each shoulder.

Good morning. It's 64° and sunny. The high will be 89°.

Well today will be the beginning of the end of the Monon name on my BL2. The Monon paint will be left intact for the most part but the Monon name and herald will be painted over and the L&A patched in on the side of the cab. Two Stewart Santa Fe F unit shells will be getting a dunk in alcohol today providing something else doesn't get in the way. Time for the yellow on blue cigar stripe to bite the dust. No plans as yet for the classic SF war bonnet on the E7. I have to find another coupler pocket clip for the front of the BL2. It uses the little black plastic clip-on coupler pocket Athearn loco owners love to hate. I keep them in place with a spot of hot glue on each side. It holds the clip securely yet can be easily removed. If I can't find one laying around I'll have to see if I can use part of a Kadee coupler box.

I always got rid of those clips, then drilled & tapped the frame boss for a 2-56 screw, and used the Kadee draft gear box. I know you try to minimize power tool usage, but I always found that procedure pretty friendly. The dimple for the clip even gives you a starting point for the hole.

The logo and road name on the BL2 is painted out and an area on the side of the cab has been painted out in silver for the L&A logo to go in. And I just finished aging and weathering five Plasticville structures. A barn, shed, corn crib, chicken coop and a dog house. Something I noticed about the BL2. On DC it runs in the opposite direction of all my other DC locos. I thought the trucks must be reversed but that's not it. They only fit one way. If I wire the motor the opposite way that should correct it. It'll be easy enough to fix when I put a decoder in it. Just set the proper CV for reverse direction.

Evening All

Nice day today but the tail end of that hurricane is set to batter us in the next 24 hours,,, glad im stuck at home after my fun in the operating room, 14 injections of local anesthetic in the leg and one in the groin was not my idea of fun, especially at the moment it paralyzed my arms and i blacked out to the tune of "His BP's falling fast" lmao,,, typical i had a rare bad reaction to it they don't see very often. At least my legs fixed, just gotta get these 3 teeth pulled on tuesday which are giving me hell.

My nephew bought himself another truck. A 95 Chevy Silverado that showing a lot of neglect. This is the disk brake rotor from the right front. Left one was all right. Both rear wheel cylinders were popped.

Jeffrey,
That ain't neglect, thats just plain stupidity. To drive a vehicle to that point takes a certain kind of moron. 1 that is totally blind to the danger they pose, not only to themselves, but to everyone else on the road.
You can't tell me they didnt know something was wrong way before the rotor got that bad. Its a shame cops cant write tickets for DWS....driving while stupid!
