It was 69 F as I rolled out of the driveway. Our high will be 83 F.
The volleyball disaster continued. In the first game the coach went with the same line-up that got crushed on Saturday and lost 25-9. In the second game the “second” string with my daughter playing lost 25-11. In the third game the coach went back to the first game line-up. With the team down 9-0 she put my daughter into the game at a substitute at the Outside Hitter position not as Right Side. She never played Right Side until this high school season and was uncomfortable with it. Suddenly the team went into a rally. They lost 25-15 but if you take away the early lead before my daughter went in the score would have been 16-15. My daughter was a little frustrated because she knows several of the girls on the other team from club. One thing my daughter is good at is receiving/digging and passing the ball. The girls she knew purposely were hitting away from my daughter. After the game one of the girls joked that she they would have been crazy to hit toward my daughter. We told my daughter she should have picked a different number than she wore in club so no one would recognize her at first. Who knows what fun we’ll have at tomorrow’s game.
My son had his first Boy Scout troop meeting of the Scouting year last night. They worked on knots and just getting reacquainted with one another. We are still trying to determine if the state park that they are planning on camping at will be open by next weekend or if they will have to go with Plan B.
Tonight is off night as there are no kids’ activities planned.
It's pretty noisy here today. The B-52's have been taking off all morning presumably heading for Guam. If that's the case someone is in for for a serious butt kicking. Nothing else happening here for now. Getting ready to go to town to pick up some meds at the pharmacy.
Today, I hit double six's (66). Another birthday that I am always glad to get, but never want to count.
Jeffrey, I didn't realize you were that close to Barksdale AFB (Of course, you don't have to be very close to see when those things take off.) I remember the old SAC alerts and the sky would be filled with contrails. Haven't the slightest idea why they would be heading to Guam, since they have their own (or used to). Maybe a practice maneuver just to keep the cobwebs clear .
Guam is their jumping off base for Asia. My guess is that they intend to look up somebody in Afghanistan and ruin their day.
And I'm 122 roads miles from Barksdale. As you said, you don't have to be close by to know those big babies are taking off. They make the devils own noise doing it.
Had an hour at the dentist today having a tooth out, it hurt like hell as my face was infected and swollen, look's to be on the mend now thankfully, just gotta have 2 more on on Thursday
Loads of stuff to tear up? Does that mean I can bring my sledge hammer over??
Speaking of B-52's, when I was growing up I lived in Selma, Al. site of the USAF's intermediate pilot training at Craig AFB, where the pilots got their first exposure to jets. We lived on the approach to the base so we had jets flying over our house at least than 1000 feet each and every hour all day long. I grew up watching T-33's, T-37's and T-38's flying around.
One day a B-52 was doing touch and goes and that sucker was big and loud! It couldn't land as the runway at Craig wasn't long enough. Wish I owned a camera then.
Good morning. It's 76 and mostly cloudy. The high is expected to be 97 and it will be sunny.
Today I'm looking at several old Athearn locos I haven't run for over a year because of electrical/mechanical problems from the viewpoint of tearing them down for parts. It'll also free up space on the display rack for the GP9 and FP7 that are coming.
It was 66 F when I left this morning. Our high will be 85 F.
Not much going on last night. I had to help out with homework for both kids at various times. I had to try to recall what an irrational number was and why you use it.
My daughter’s frustration level with her team is growing. Last night after practice she was annoyed. It would seem that about half the team has given up and is practicing accordingly. Today’s game against Lower Merion should be interesting. This is one of the few teams that they should be better than but who knows what will happen.
My son is now thinking that instead of football he wants to try soccer. Apparently several of friends play and have been trying to talk him into it. He is not thrilled with the coach for the unlimited football team and some the players are kids he tries to avoid.
I have a few meetings this morning so I am off to them.
Tom, it sounds like you may have a mutiny on your hands soon. For your daughters sake, I hope the coach figures something out.
It's a cool morning here in the upper Midwest. I believe it's 43 right now. Tomorrow night we're to have a low of 33! Oh, I don't think I'm ready for that yet.
I haven't looked at the trains for over two weeks. I guess that would explain my absence from here as well. If there are no trains, then there is no train talk. I think I'll just run a few trains today and see what project I feel like starting. There are a million things I COULD do, I just have to decide which ones I want to do.
I have the day off so I think I'll get on with it.
Have a good day everyone.
Morning, It's been a while since I've dropped by here.
Last weekend, a friend and I was bumped off the extra board and moved to Mason City. Hopefully this is temorary, but I don't know yet. It would sure be nice to know what's going on.
I had a nice welcome coming here. They told me that they were going to make hotel reservations for us to stay at for the first 30 days we are here. First of all, they didn't even tell me which hotel I was going to be at, my buddy told me after calling our trainmaster. Then, when I get to the hotel, they didn't have any reservations for us. Now, we've been sitting around the hotel doing nothing for a full day and a half doing nothing and NOBODY has contacted us yet. I think I'm going to contact my trainmaster today to see what is going on.
This morning I stripped three Athearn locos for parts. An SD9 and a pair of Alco P's (PA2/PB2). Parts taken included decoders (Bachmann), motors, gears and in the case of the PA2 the horns.
I used the horns from the PA2 on the E7 I recently acquired. The existing holes were too small. I thought a 3/64" bit would be big enough but even those holes were too small. Next in line was a 1/16" bit. I thought that if I went any bigger I was going to have use a fly swatter to kill anything that crawled out. The 1/16" bit did the trick. The new horns fit perfectly and a little super glue should insure they stay put.
