Rex, I feel your pain. Well actually my son Calvin does, quite literally - he's getting all 4 of his wisdom teeth extracted at 2:00pm EDT today!

Hi, David, nice to see that things are cooling down a bit up in the foothills.

Chris, sounds like "death grip" was most appropriate in this case. :( I used to interview missing persons that we found lost in the woods and always asked them why they just didn't turn around and come back the way they came. They always told me they thought their car, camp, whatever, was "over the next ridge". Same kind of thinking as the kite surfer.

Ray, it's a beautiful plant and I'm sure its association with your late wife makes it even more special. The Orlando area really hasn't had much but some moderate wind and a fair amount of rain. The area with the problems has been south of the storm, where the tornados always brew. Fay should finally get out of that area by late tonight but it looks like Jacksonville west will be under the gun come Friday. The Orlando area may actually be under more threat of severe weather then because they will be on the south side of the storm.

Paul, same thing for your niece and nephew. This is not a powerful storm but very unpredictable so they need to keep updated on the latest forecast. Let's see, how cool was it here last night...oh, only dropped to 74. I guess I can put off worrying about frost protection for a while. :D

Rex, old pal, I have already felt your pain and hope all goes well. If you have a good dentist, it will be worth it when you have a full set of teeth again. As far as your layout, Ken showed me a picture he took while you were standing behind the mountains by that big fan. That's one honkin' big layout. You work a lot faster than me but I think it would take me at least 10 years just get ground cover and some trees down.

Ken, hope it goes well for Calvin too. getting wisdom teeth extracted doesn't fall into the "fun" category for most kids.

92 degrees and not a cloud in the sky while we are surrounded by storm systems on all sides. <sigh>

Jim right on both accounts..... Right now Fay seems to be just sitting there on the edge of the coast.

BTW I finally got a good nights sleep last night. Part of my problem was that I had way too much salt that day and the other is that I am dealing with a Scout Unit (I am their Commissioner) that is doing some very questionable activities. They are not following guidelines for proper safety and I have been wrestling with how to best deal with the problem. I have just mailed a letter to the leaders outlining what I see as problematic and let them know that they have an opportunity to correct the situation before I report it to the Council....... Unfortunately, the leadership involves some close friends. Can you spell LIABILITY?

How about some lunch everyone. Chris said it is all on my tab, so come and get it. I have to eat early today; this is "D" Day as in DENTIST. Yup, at 1 o'clock the numbing shots begin for getting my 4 teeth extracted. Don't mine telling you that I have mixed feelings about it all:eek:

Rex, I had all four of my wisdom(Or Lack of) Pulled the day after my honey moon! My wifes Idea(not mine)........:D I was put under for my lack of wisdom teeth extraction! I went to sleep with them then woke up and they were gone No pain and no stress! Now with less wisdom come less stress!LOL's

BTW: my FIL is lending me his 6'x16' trailer that he real doesn't use any more for my son and my lawn business. I have to replace 3 of the four tires, I just got done rewireing the lights and fliped the floor boards. next is to repaint it and get new Gate hinges weld on and I'm in shape! My poor little more gets lost on that big trailer!LOL's

Someone upstairs just likes to see you sweat!

My grandmother used to tell me that living in Alabama was incentive to live a "good life" so I didn't end up in Hades for eternity. Looks like I need to pay more attention to some of my recent activities.

Rex, and son of Ken Have a fun time at the dentist if thats possible, LOL it send's a shiver down my spine thinking back to wisdom teeth extraxtion, i had five at once done under general, It hurt afterwards, but not as much as it did eating the 12" pizza next day,,, but i WAS starving ;)

Joan Rivers "...I can't feel my face! Am I smiling?":D That's the way it was. Man did he use the needle (thank goodness!); even my nose disappeared. Only one tooth wanted to stay in and it required a bit more tugging  . I've been back home for a couple of hours and the Novocaine has worn off. All seems good so far and without any pain medicine.....yet. The partial feels like it fits good and doesn't hurt having it in. I go back in the morning for a check and hopefully all will be ready to rock and roll.
Right now, the roof of my mouth feels like I have a glob of peanut butter stuck to it. The partial will take a little getting use to.LOL:D Now, I need to try and eat something soft, lots of it.

Ray, tough situation to be in but doing the right thing is always best even if some friends don't like it. With Scouts, it's not just liability but doing your best to protect them from harm.

Chris, I had my wisdom teeth taken out when I was a kid. That may account for my present lack of mental capacity. :( Sounds like you need to get a bigger mower now that you have that big trailer.

Steve, I have to eat things like ice cream and pudding for a week after they yanked my wisdom teeth. They are apparently more liberal about such things in the UK.

Mikey, I told my wife what your grandmother said and she had a good laugh. That is kind of a scary thought - pick the hottest, most humid day we've had then imagine that as being eternity.

Oh, I know what I was going to tell y'all. Three years after retiring from the sheriff's department, I finally got my retired badge today. I put in 27 mostly unpaid years and you're supposed to get a retired badge after you put in 25 years and on the day you retire. Makes me wonder about all the people that think the government would do a good job running healthcare. :D

Rex, glad all went well at the dentist! My mouth hurts just thinking about that. Hope you have an uneventful recovery.

Last night I installed the first of my working switch target stands on the layout. I have to admit that the correct way to install them is to say a lot of very nasty things. Then they seem to work better. This afternoon I turned on the power, threw the turnout, the torti did it's thing, and the target turned just like it's supposed to........ YES! I am using the Details West SS-914 switch stands. Wedudler across the street was kind enough to help me understand how to do them correctly. Only have 40 or 50 more to do. Photos by this weekend.

Jim you snuck in while I was posting. Yes in my book the safety of the Scouts always comes first. Hopefully I will get their full attention as trying to talk with the two people in charge doesn't seem to work. I always hate to be in the role of the Heavy!

Before I gets big Mower I needs lots more accounts to pay for $8,000 to $12,000 mower!

I'm with you when it come to the government, it's like watching a parent give a 4 year old a loaded hand gun to play with!JMO:rolleyes: ;)

Rex - glad you survived the Big Rip with minimal pain! Cal is doing OK, but he's mad at us for scheduling the operation during Summer break - he wanted us to wait till school started back up so he could skip a few days. His mother pointed out to him that he couldn't skip the exams on the lessons he would miss! His older sister Sarah missed a whole week of school when she got hers out, we're not making that mistake again!

... I am using the Details West SS-914 switch stands. ... Only have 40 or 50 more to do. ...
Ray, that's why this is known as a lifelong hobby, LOL

Steve I sure hope Nicky comes around on the house pricing issue.

I'm writing up the thread on my 'Bama trip. Even when showing only a fraction of the pics I shot, it's still a lot of captions to write! Probably won't finish it until tomorrow...

Evening All!

Been doing some catching up with the posts. Interesting things going on in here :)

Rex...The extractions do not sound like much fun. I hope all continues to go well, though. I had my wisdom teeth taken out March 30, 1981. Only reason I remember that...it was the day President Reagan was shot. Bad day all around.

Tom...Who was playing the Phillies? I have only gone to one Rockies game so far this season. I do enjoy a good game. Hope you had a great time.

Ray...what lovely flowers on your special plant. Thank you for sharing those pictures.

I had the chance to go to the western slope this weekend. We went up to the Aspen area to visit some wonderful friends. We had some decent snow on the east side of the Eisenhower tunnel and then on in to Vail. But after the mountain tops were covered, the snow stopped. Sure looked beautiful.
The friends we visited were our former pastor and his wife. She has a very interesting job. She is the "plant lady" in Aspen and takes care of the plants and flowers for Aspen's ...elite. Sheesh...she has stories to tell! She never reveals the names of her clients, but some of them are real nuts. One woman ordered several thousand dollars worth of orchids one winter and before she left on vacation (a vacation from Aspen???) she told my friend to open the orchids that were still closed, she wanted to see how they looked. Jeanne explained to her that to disturb them at that point would kill them and they would never bloom. Did not matter to her and Jeanne opened the orchids. Nuts. Also she told us of a hotel exec who built a 85 million dollar ranch so he could raise horses and become a cowboy. He built the ranch and the training building. The stalls are done in teak. Has absolutely everthing for a successful ranch...except for horses. What a nut.

I reckon it takes all kinds :p

Have a great evening!

Sandy

Good morning.

It's 73 and very cloudy. The high is expected to be in the mid 80's and there's a chance of thunderstorms later.

We got 3/4's of an inch of rain yesterday. Hopefully we'll get more today. Every little bit helps. I spent part of yesterday rewiring two Proto 2000 locomotives so they'll have all wheel pickup to feed one decoder that will be driving both motors. Obviously this means they'll be permanently lashed up together. The decoder is one of Bachmann's $20 wonders so I'm not too worried it. It'll either work or it won't. The stall tests say it will.

Good morning all!

Chris- Have you considered going "green" and getting a flock of sheep to nibble the grass levels down?

Rex- glad to see the dental work has not slowed your typing fingers here. You are recovering very quickly, hope you continue at this rate of progress!

Jim- I feel my personal view of Hades will be similar to the winter that Lake Erie froze over when I lived near Cleveland, Ohio. The cold affects my attitude toward the world and that winter seems like 6 months long.

I wonder if you can buy a snow blower in Hades?

Y'all have a great day!
Mikey

Good morning folks

It was a cool 65 F on the way in to the office. Our high today will be 82 F.

We went to the Phillies - Nationals game last night. It was a good game ruined by the company around us. No matter where we went we couldn’t seem to get away from the drunks, obnoxious people, or “sports experts”. You could have gotten drunk off the fumes coming off the group sitting behind us. Of course every other word out of the mouth should have been bleeped. Another group next to us kept complaining about their seats and the view. Basically they talked the entire time we were there. Given the area we were in; the Hall of Fame Club” I naively thought the experience would be different. I am glad our kids did not come with us as it was not a family atmosphere. As I said to my wife when were leaving it was time for a reality check and we had to be reminded why we do not go to Phillies games. If I want to have a good family experience at the ballpark, I will stick with minor league baseball.

Before we left for the game I worked on a troublesome passenger car with my son. The car has been derailing on curves. We added weight to the car. My son was supposed to test it. However, when he got home from football he forgot. Instead he spent the evening running other passenger cars around the layout. He was proud of himself as he converted the couplers on one of the cars from hook and horn to a knuckle coupler by himself.

Tonight we have a Cub Scout Leaders’ Meeting.

Ray, I understand what you are going through. I think I told the story of a similar incident we had earlier this year. After went to Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation I had to inform the pack that we had been doing our camping trips wrong and that we needed to follow the rules. Our Committee Chairman who had ran the previous trips flipped out about it. He got really upset when I told him that if everyone including adults did not fill out a required medical form they could not go on the trip. Right now I have been agonizing over what to do about him. I had meeting yesterday with my District Executive. I found out that she wants him out of a leadership position because she is tried of dealing with him. He says he is going to do things and never follows through. He is also our Treasurer. I currently have the checkbook and especially after my meeting yesterday I will not give it back to him. I have been directed to open a new account at another bank. We have problems with our current bank. They lost our signature cards and as a result anyone can sign the checks. Since I have not been able to reach him all summer I have had to now assume the Treasurer’s roll. I had to make deposits and write checks to keep the pack running. So now I am Cubmaster and defacto Committee Chairman and Treasurer. Part of tonight’s meeting will be to address these issues. We have been trying to find a way for our current Committee Chair/Treasurer to bow out gracefully but it may come to point where we have to “fire” him.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Mornin' everyone!

A bright sunny day here in the Finger Lakes. Currently 63°F with a high this afternoon of 80°F. May have to start the air conditioners up at some time, but for now I am pulling cool air in with a fan. Have to do some serious cleaning and getting ready for the rug cleaner to get here next Monday. Everything will have to be moved out of the dining room/office on Friday as Diesel Days at the museum is this weekend and I will be working there both days.

Tom I remember your postings about the packs leadership. Thank God they are finally blessed with someone who is willing to make the needed changes. I am also glad to hear that your District Executive is in agreement with you about the situation. That is critical. Do you have an active Commissioner? A good commissioner can be a big help to convincing the rest of the committee to make the needed changes. As for my situation, the letters have been sent and what happens next will depend on their response. If I have gotten their attention and they are willing to start using the guidelines and regulations BSA has developed and specified then I will let it go and make sure their new commissioner (I will be resigning as their commissioner) is aware that there have been some safety concerns. If I don't have co-operation, then the matter goes to the DE and the council Health and Safety Chairman. I can assure you that the "you know what" will hit the proverbial fan! Worst case scenario the charter gets pulled and the Scoutmaster and Committee Chair will be banned from Scouting. Of course, it will be "all my fault". Several years ago an out of council unit that commonly used our camp pulled some similar stuff. I was chair of the council camping committee at the time. The Council Executive and I signed the letter banning them permanently from using our Council's properties. A copy went to their Council Executive as well. The people responsible are no longer in Scouting.........

A musician (and MR friend) of mine stopped by last night after a gig to return some equipment he rented from me. I had him pop down to the layout to show him the "working" Details West switch stand. I through the toggle to the torti, the target switched position as the points changed and he went wild....

Hope all of you have a great day, stay dry (or at least above the flood), and safe!

Sheep, Goat's, horse's and Cow's according to the Greenies are depleating the Ozone due to the Farting going on! Plus how would I explain to my clients on the need to fence in their yards so my mowing crew don't get hit by a car? I'll stick with the tried and true method!
