Karl,
Your situation with your father reminds me of my loosing my father and it isn't easy so my heart goes out to you. I should think they would be giving him diauretics to release the fluid and clear his lungs as long as he's urinnating ok?

Stay close to him as it sounds as it sounds like he won't be around too much longer.

May God Bless you, your Father and family.

David Smith

Well said---we also have your family on our church's prayer list, Karl.

Take Care---

Thank you Barry.

Karl, I'll mention that Coffee is a great diauretic if he likes it as well as it being very high in anti-oxidents to possibly help him to be more comfortable.

God Bless and take care.

Yeah Mikey it was a slow start for Bama, but then they did an excellent job on defense and good on offense from there on. Don't think the outcome would have been much different with Mcoy, maybe a closer score. They lost their starting quarterback (that was a bummer) and ours didn't show up the last half. As long as they had Shipley, they were going to be a problem for the Tide. Thank goodness for the rest of Bama's offense.

Karl, I'm very sorry to hear the news about your Dad. My Dad had the same problem but was able to get better for awhile. However, one day he was taken quick, the way he wanted it. My thoughts are with you and the family.

Karl, chronic CHF is one of those things that can only be controlled so long, and diuretics and all the usual stuff doesn't work, because the heart just isn't working effectively enough to help the lungs function correctly. I hope he'll get on Hospice and go peacefully. Stuggling to get enough oxygen is not a fun thing but it tends to be self-limiting.

Rex, Bama did win, but Texas lost more than Bama won. That second half comeback was a nail biter, but Gilbert's miscues and the extraordinary amount of penalites really helped the Tide. I really feel sorry for Gilbert, a freshman getting thrown into the BCS title game agaist the best team in the nation. I think having McCoy playing would have made it a lot closer and mre exciting game. I don't know how badly his shoulder was injured, but I know my old coach would have had him filled with painkillers and back in the game. You don't sit out a championship game unless you have a body part detatched. Now, I want to see if Boise State gets ranked second in the polls.

Never even had a flake of snow down here, just cold, miserable rain. It's gone now, but there's enough moisture left on the roads that I'm sure there will be some problems as it freezes. Still, it wasn't exactly the storm of the century.

Afternoon, everyone.

...
CJ, this "storm' is turning into a giant dud down here. That dry air is just too well entrenched. We had about 10 minutes of graupel and the rest has been a little light rain. Looks like we may get a few flurries on the backside of the front, but that's about it. I'm not sure I'm buying into the big outbreak of cold air now either. It will still be cold, especially during the day, but I don't see the lows being much below the 17 we've already had. There just won't be enough snow cover to promote the single digit temperatures that were forecasted.

Yeah, is was a bust all over except for Atl. Ga. Up until game time, TWC was brodcasting live from downtown Atl. just covering the snow that we were supposed to get! On the weather forums, they've gone stark, raving mad about it!

We had snow for about 2 hours with some areas turning white then it would sleet off and on until about 3. Which actually seemed to cause our snow to melt. After that nothin'.

Ken-Hope Vickie's doing better. Got to be careful with Dilaudid. I have to take it for when my CRPS (RSD) acts up beyond what I normally can stand. I'm now up to 8mg every 4 hours, and at times like now, cold and wet, even that ain't much help!

Rex- A THONG! Are you crazy! I believe that Bill Engvall, (Here's your sign!) said it correctly; "I believe that if you want to wear a thong then you need to fill out an application!"

Well, I believe that more here than just you would be rejected!:D

Well thinking about calling it a night, oops almost forgot

Roll Tide!

Karl, the reason I mentioned the diauretics is because they allow the heart to function more properly due to the lungs being free of liquid so that the heart can get the required amount of oxygen, and maybe your father isn't able to drink coffee so that was possibly a poor suggestion on my part but the Dr. should be giving him Lasix or something like it to help remove the excess fluid in the lungs.

I almost lost my father some time prior to his passing due to Congestive Heart Failure and even Mom had a touch of it too. I'd check into that with the doctor, at least it will make your father a lot more comfortable.

This is when your Dad needs you to speak up for him, he sure can't.

Mornin' all!

Chilly, chilly, chilly! And the bottom drops out this weekend! I heard someone talking about sub-zero temps this weekend! Thats MIGHTY NIPPY!

So, normally band practice is Tuesday evenings, but last Tuesday the wife and I were at a meeting. She's having bariatric surgery soon and the support group meeting was that night. Anyways, so I called up one of my bandmates last night and we're going to hook up tonight so he can show me the songs for Saturday nights service. Should be fun.......24 hours to learn 4 songs I've never played, and play them on stage in front of a hundred or more people.......no problem! Guess I'll be spending most of Saturday practicing, huh? And then I teach childrens church that evening, and I teach a cosmogony class Sunday. Busy weekend!

So whats up with you all?

Prayers for all those who need it.......yeah, I know......thats ALL of us!

Jeffrey...I understand your frustration with your car problems. In this hideous cold weather, my thermostat has stuck open. So I can start my car, let it 'warm' up for 15 mins, drive 30 mins to Denver and my heater is still not putting out warm air. Grrrrrr & Brrrrrrr! Getting it fixed this weekend.
I can feel your pain there. Mine has an oversize radiator so by the time the water gets back to the engine it's cold. Nobody seems to know what type thermostat to put in it. I've tried several and none seem to be right.

Good morning. It's 21 and cloudy. The high today will be 36 and partly cloudy.

Attended a fire dept meeting last night. Standard stuff, Bunker gear inspection. I got more exercise there in two hours than I usually get here in a week. Nothing special on the schedule for today. I'll have to jack up the right front of the car today so I can put the low pressure power steering line back together. I went of the edge of the road last night and as that particular line line extends below the frame it got pulled apart. It's just a simple matter of putting the steel and rubber lines back together and reclamping them.

Hello Guys and Gals, and thong wearers ;)

It's pretty nippy today and everything is frozen solid, last night saw the temps here equal to the SOUTH POLE and way colder than in Moscow !!! we have snow coming again this weekend, on top of the already frozen stuff. I have to say though it does look stunning, my little Suzuki 4x4 goes anywhere i want it to, i am also collecting fire fighters from home on the way in when we get a job :D

I'm sure there is something else

Giving a pt. diuretics for CHF can only do so much. Its called congestive because the heart is weakening and is to the point where the CO (cardiac output) isn't good enough to flush the excess fluid out thru the kidneys, so it starts collecting in the lungs, which are the most permeable organ in the body. The fluid also starts collecting in places like the lower legs, and even the hands.

For the diuretics to be effective, there has to be enough force, ie blood pressure, to force the excess fluid out via the kidneys. With a weak heart, you can give a pt. all the diuretics in the world and it makes no difference. If the heart is unable to push the blood thru the kidneys with enough force to push the excess fluid out, it collects everywhere, most commonly the lungs. Its called heart failure for a reason. IIRC the most common drug we used for CHF is digitalis, which makes the heart beat stronger, but you can only go so high with the strength as the side effects can be just as damaging as the CHF.

Eventually Digitalis also loses its effectiveness and hospice is the only choice left.

Jim I actually have to laugh, because its partly cloudy, supposed to cloud back up, and we're having snow flurries! Its a cold 17 here now, and the flurries are strong enough that places that never turned white yesterday, are getting that hint of white on them, as in the roofs and where the flakes fall to get caught on something.

I've been watching them fall since 6AM this morning, and we've had more snow with them than the "storm" from yesterday.

Good Noon Hour---well what else do you call this time period?:p

Had enough snow to have me out there first thing this morning doing the snowblowing--about 6" fell last night---

Going back into the home office to do some more paperwork stuff

Oh, and Rex why a thong?:eek::eek::p

LTR:D:D:D

Good morning folks

It was 26 F and snowy we I left this morning. High today is supposed to be 34 F.

We had some snow overnight and it created traffic chaos this morning. I waited around and left later than I normally do to allow for things to calm down. Amazing how much destruction an inch of snow causes on the roadways around here.

The last few days have been insane. Work has been one crisis after another. Every day this week it starts as soon as I walk end and last until I sneak out. All this before the next round of economic stimulus projects have started. 2010 is going to be another hair puller.

No trains the last few nights.

Tomorrow my son has Winter Survival. We get to camp in the snow with a high tomorrow of 29 F and an overnight low of 14 F. At least it is only one night. We start at 6 AM tomorrow. They have a skills competition during the afternoon. We did it last year and it was a lot of fun. Of course it was about 20 degrees warmer.

Larry we will keep your FIL and your family in our prayers.

I hope everybody has a good day.

well we got that cold front rolling through, the temp's seem to de dropping fast along with this annoying light rain. kinda gloomy day unlike yesterday's bright blue skys with puffy white clouds. we ran out of coffee this morning so I had no java to start my day.....needless to say I just got back with a fresh brick of joe!:) (I don't do well with out my coffee) Coffee's up! My chores are done and got a nice cup of coffee to quietly enjoy:):):):):)

Barry>....Oh, and Rex why a thong?
Duh-aa, I had to put something on under the robe. LOL:D:rolleyes::D
Carey: my application was approved...just had to use a roll of tissue:o:eek::D

Dang cold outside, but my depot is just right (gas bill will hit the ceiling). Today is cleanup time from all the plastering. I have to get things cleaned up to start the painting/staining on the second level. Then I get to make another mess on the lower level . So far, I have used 40 lbs of Hydrocal and will probably need another 15-20. Almost there!

Stay warm and CUL.:)

All, this morning I put in my eyes(contact lenses) went outside to get the mail........WOW!!!!! It was bright!!!! The pain was like when you drink a big gulp of a "slushy" on a hot day only in my eyes. Went back inside and grabbed my "Wayfarers". You know my "Jack Nicholson" sunglasses. MUCH BETTER.

A balmy 27*F right now. Better than the teens we've been experiencing.

Finally got the snow blower out. Cleaned the drive and sidewalks. I saw the neighbor's grandson out shoveling her walks and drive. He's in his mid-20's, I'd imagine. I asked him if he wanted to borrow the snowthrower. I would have done the work but I had to pay rent on the 4 cups of coffee I'd had. Anyway, I go pee, look outside, and he's using the snowthrower to clean her whole yard!!!!! I about spit out my 5th cup of coffee!!!! And we are supposed to trust our future to this generation? No way.

Got a package in the mail. I bought several engines and some rolling stock on eBay and eBid in the past week. Some of the engines showed up. In all there were 12. I got some more F-units, two sets of PA/PB's, another Proto 2000 BL2 in Monon colors. I now have enough as Monon only had 10,#30-#39, I believe. I will need to renumber this one #37. There were a few steamers, of course. A pair of Hudsons and a Mohawk tagged NYC.

The rolling stock was all Athearn BB!!!! I bought a lot of 25 on eBay. All unassembled for $75 plus shipping. I'm stocking up on those cars since Athearn decided to stop production. Most are NYC, C&O, and PRR, with a couple of Monon, and NKP thrown in. I wish I could get a deal like that on some old ice bunker reefers like that.

Cut down some more luaun doors today. Finally got them all cut. I need to get busy building dioramas. I glued and clamped some 2x's to replace the ones I cut off. I'll get around to the building part next week.

Prayers to all in need. I know the Good Lord will answer all of your needs, make life a bit easier for all of you and grant you patience, and the wisdom to understand and make the decisions ahead of you.

Bob

Howdy folks

just got back from a pan fire, got called out with only 3 mins left on shift. We have about another 3" of snow due in the night and now the roads are just a highly polished ice scating rink
