Good morning folks.

Jim, it sounds like you are being very aggressive in stopping the train wreck. I think it sounds like the right thing to do. I know I never learn anything unless it impacts me financially. Consequences are a bitch huh?:)

No 'gators' up here in the great white north. We do have deer though, does that count? I guess I've never heard of anyone being carried off by a deer.:)

I was going to leave the Christmas stuff up until after New Years, but I had a change of heart. One of my trees was basically dead on arrival. It was so crusty that I couldn't bear to look it. The plan was to remove the offending tree and leave the rest up another week. Well, once I started pulling out the storage bins I decided to tear it all down. I love Christmas decorations, but I love how uncluttered it looks once it's all put away. Well, it's all down and the house is clean. Now it's time to play with trains.

Our store is slowing down already, so I have to come up with some sort of clearance sale to bring them back in. I hope things don't get too slow.

Have a great day everyone.

Good morning. It's 30 and sunny. the high will be 50 and sunny. Weather guesser is saying rain looms and will make it's presence known within 24 hours.

I can tell it's gonna be a typical Monday. My internet connection is making like the stock market. One minute it's up, the next it's down. Someday they'll get that fixed. At the rate things progress here it may not be in my lifetime but it will eventually happen. Then again there's always the chance that pigs will fly. If there was a viable alternative that would allow me to keep my broadband internet speed and my VOIP phone service without depending on this flaky cable service here I would change over in a minute. Can't do DSL because I have no regular phone service, WiFi out here depends on the cable and satellite is way too slow (56 kbps). My phone service requires a minimum of 128 kbps with 256 kbps or faster being recommended. So it would appear that I'm stuck with the flaky cable service. And they're still wondering why I switched to Dish Network. It had a lot to do with them decreasing their service while raising the price of said service. $70 a month for around 60 channels, half of them shopping, news, christian and special interest channels was a bit much when I can get 250 channels, including a bunch of movie channels for that same $70 and I don't have to put up with a lot of worthless shopping, news, religious and special interest channels. I was able to more or less pick and choose what I wanted. Later I have to attach a new vacuum suction line to my foot. The one that was on it wouldn't maintain a seal no matter what I did to it and I eventually ended up taking it off last night and putting on a standard dressing. I tell you, sometimes I get so fed up with this vacuum unit that I feel like just pitching it out the door. On the other hand, it has helped to close up the wound a lot. On the modeling front I did a bit of work on the containers that came with my new flatcars. I faded them a little and added some bleaching. I have yet to do anything to the flatcars themselves. They're marked for the Union Pacific and you know what I like doing to UP markings. It be patching time!

G'day all, sunny and 50F here in Central Nova today.Ground is bare and the slight white covering for Christmas is long gone. (didn't appreciate it anyway  but some did ) Ah well getting time to thaw out another turkey for the next festivities. Maybe we should be celebrating new years at the physical year end of April. At least we wouldn't have turkey shock and start gobbling instead of talking :D
Hope everyone has a great day.
Cheers
Willis

The hospital called this afternoon afore we got home so Glendia has to call in the morning to discuss the discharge of my FIL. My daughter said he was in a lot of pain this afternoon. We do not know if the pain is caused by yesterdays operation or the cancer. I have a feeling it is both. The doctor said when he put in the new feeding tube yesterday he could see the liver is damaged by the cancer so I think the cancer is more widespread then first thought. Glendia said Christmas Eve that if he lasted another six months she would be surprised.

Prayers sent, Larry. We hope here his time left is easy. But, having dealt with my father's death to cancer, I know that it will probably not be so. Hoping all of your family can keep your strength to get you through this.

Again, you and your family are in our prayers here.

Bob

I agree with the above. It is rough on the nerves. When both our parents went ill we had to jerry rig a series of things between my 2 sisters and I just to look after them. We also had to keep on top of the home health people as well.

Whatever you end up doing--do yourself a favour--take some time for yourself---you'll need it---

We got you and your family on our prayer list---take care

Thank you all for your prayers and support. Glendia being an only child has it rough. Our oldest Valerie is an RN so she is a very valuable resource and a good shoulder for Glendia to lean on. Val is also doing some checking on rehab facilities since Glen does not want to go back to the place that messed up the feeding tube and I cannot blame him. I am always there to support and do what needs to be done when needed. Glen has asked me for advice since my MIL passed in August and I have tried to give him an honest answer. He may not have agreed with me but Glendia told me he valued my opinion highly. That made me feel a little better but I still try not to influence his decisions to much and then have him regret it later. There is a very fine line that I am trying to keep on. Offer advice when asked and keep my mouth shut when I disagree with any of them or at least try to offer a counter point for something for them to think about. I have always been pretty good at looking at both sides of the coin and try to make a balanced choice which is hard for me at times because I can be very opinionated.

Evening, everyone.

Larry, sorry to hear the bad news about your FIL. Maybe it's time for the family to sit down and discuss Hospice. They can make sure he's not in pain and his last days are comfortable. They were a lifesaver when Jean was going through her cancer. Even if he's in a long term care facility, they will visit him daily and make sure he's being looked after properly. I join the rest in adding him to my prayers.

Corey, all our stuff gets left up until New Year's. We havea fake tree so I don't have to worry about the house catching fire. If it was up to me, we'd take it all down now, but the cats would be sad. :) Retailers are going to have to a lot of promotions to keep curomers coming in the next several months. No matter what December's sales finally come in at, most people are just tapped out and will need a really good reason to buy anything else.

Jeffrey, I know what you mean. I'm stuck with cable too and it's just as flaky. There's really no answer until the phone company runs a DSL line out here or they finally mandate community Wi-Fi services. This was supposed to be high on the Great Leader's list of priorities but I haven't heard much about it lately. Those vaccum pumps still need work to make them easier to care for but, as you say, they really do help in wound healing. Just keep fiddling with it and keep it working as well as you can.

Willis, I do Cornish Game Hens for New Years. Easy to make and everyone seems to like them. Your high was about the same as ours today and this is nearly as warm as wer're going to get for the next week.

I'm still going for snow Wednesday night but now it looks like we have a chance for some serious snow over the weekend. There will be lots of cold air plunging down from Canada, meeting with a pretty good Gulf flow. Since the water temperature in the Gulf is down to about 50, the Gulf will supply a lot of moisture without doing much to modify the cold temperatures. This is a classic setup for a Gulf snowstorm. We'll see.

Evening, All

Larry...I will keep including your family in my prayers. And I will pray for strength and wisdom for you.

Jim...You, too.

Corey...You'll think of a terrific sales idea and the store will be swamped!

Just got a call from my nephew in Wichita. My brother and SIL are down there for Chirstmas. This afternoon my brother was doing some work on my nephew's home (they just moved in days before Christmas) and Bill, my brother, fell through the attic. Fell about 15 feet. Did some major damage to his ankle and elbow. He will need surgery in about 2 weeks (per the doc) on his ankle. Fortunately his elbow was not broken and there were no internal injuries or neuro-trauma. They will heading back to Denver Wednesday. I am sure that trip will not be ANY fun! Should be able to bear some weight on his ankle in a couple of months. He is a runner so this will drive him nuts.

What a way to start the New Year.

Have a good evening and stay warm!

Sandy

Bubbles with one of her Christmas presents...

Sandy- Ive seen a few St bernards before, gentle giants thats for sure, and thanks for the compliment on vic, thats about as active as she gets though :)

Larry - I'll join the others in praying for you, Glendia, and your FIL. I wonder if the passing of his wife may have accelerated the development of this cancer - people tend to be most at risk for serious illness after a major stressful event, and the death of a spouse ranks at the very top of the scale. As Jim was saying, hospice care is probably the best way to handle this situation, rather than a nasty series of surgeries and chemo.

Sandy - bummer about your brother's injury! I suppose your nephew (his son?) probably feels pretty bad about it. Attics are dangerous places if you don't watch exactly where you put your feet, I nearly put a hole thru my garage ceiling while I was putting down insulation a few years ago. Hope he recovers quickly.

Matt, we've got plenty of scenic reservoirs in Maryland for you to use your kayak in - and no gators (yet, until some idiot introduces them to the region).

Good evening all,

The day was on the cool side and in the 50's and the night is droipping.

It sure seems like most everyone is having their problems including me and my Mom, she's
doing ok now but had a bit of a trying time for a whle. I'm fine, a bit of a left leg ache but that's porobably just depleted potassium from drinking too much coffee.

To each of you that are having problems may God watch over you and protect you in your time of need. Life sure isn't easy or plesasant at times but we are the stronger for it but could easily do without all the unneeded hassels.

Take care and have a good night and lets hope tomorrow is brighter.

Larry I know this is a very tough time for you and your family. We've gone through it with my wife's sister and my brother. We used Hospice both times...Angel people ;). Our prayers be with you.

Sandy: That is one heck of a chew bone...WOW!!! That's three times bigger than Archie and Ralph get, but they do destroy it in day :D.

Matt: Our Bama boys (Golden Retrievers) wouldn't know what to do with all that snow, but it would be fun to watch them figure it out. Hope Jim is right and we get some of the white stuff this week.

Jim: You must keep shaking the magic wand; still can't see any sign of snow coming. It just doesn't seem to match anything given in the weather reports...only rain.

The Saint Bernasrds!

Matt...yup. She's a Saint Bernard. She's a sweetie...but no saint! :o)

Victory is beautiful!

Sandy

Say Sandy,
I've never owned a Saint Bernard but have seen and even photographed them in past years.

My Fathers' father had a Saint Bernard in New Bedford, Mass many years back. Grandfather was a Blacksmith and shop owner and after taking Prince, I think that was his name, on the route he used to travel to various customers he made a wire basket that fit over Princes back and Grand dad would pout small parts in the basket and tell Prince to take them to whoever the various parts were for and off price would go and make the delivery even pick up things to bring back. They are quite faithful companion alright.

Unfortunately Grandfather died when I was about five or six and we took a trip back to Mass.
