Hey gang!

Recently I bought off evil bay a book called "Standard Guide to Athearn Model Trains" needless to say I was not disappointed. I really enjoy all the information it provided. Not to mention there was a lot of stuff in there that I did know Athearn produced and will be looking for them!

I see you can get this @ 15 to 25 dollars not bad buy either way!

Hey Matt, welcome to the coffee shop! Guess you've already met a few of the guys. And, ummm, watch out for Chris.......he likes to say that we all get into "mud" slinging fights once in a while, but truth is, he's usually the only one slinging! The rest of us are too busy running for cover!

Good morning folks

It was 44 F as I hit the occasionally foggy roadways this morning. High will be 54 F. The weather guessers have the S-word in the forecast for Saturday. If they keep it in there for another day or two that should set off a full scale Bread and Milk Panic.

Last night my son had his Boy Scout Troop meeting. They were practicing skills for their upcoming Winter Survival Skills Competition.

Not much else happening.

Tonight is my son’s guitar lesson. My daughter is supposed to have volleyball practice but she has been battling a stomach virus and may not go.

Rex I get my supply of plaster at AC Moore or Michaels’ Crafts.

I hope everybody has a good day.

================================

Good morning---

Audrey went out for her morning walk and when she came back in commented that she was going to need exercises for her other leg---otherwise she was going to be lopsided. That lovely 'walking cast' AKA "mooring anchor" she ended up with for her foot is a little heavier than she would like ---but then again:cool::(

So, I be off and all piculous getting last minute types of things today--:D-

Have a good one!:D:D

Thanks Tom! I have never thought about Michaels or Hobby Lobby for plaster. (Duh!:D) I guess they would have it for using in molds for figurines, vases, etc. Probably ideal for any rock molds. Almost afraid to get a price, but it may be the only game in town.
I may have to find an equivalent for Durabond. From what I have read about it, I need to look for what ever is being used to repair old plaster. I haven't checked 84 Lumber and some other like places, so the search goes on. Funny thing is I remember seeing that name on something in the past, but have no idea when/where.

Time to get a haircut. CUL :)

well im home from school, weather was actually pretty nice, 42F and sunny!

It was a B day today which means it was a pretty boring day. I learned in gym that i can now bench over my weight and if it keeps up, ill be in great shape for the football season!!!

I also had a pretty bittersweet moment today- I found a Christmas present....
Looks like i'll be recieving a new kayak :D but i'll feel pretty guilty until the 25th.

Good Afternoon to all,
I was up late working on doing a little block wiring so I slept in late as I didn't have to get up early.

Well another year has rolled around for me today so I'm now 64 and still having a great time in all I do.

Matt, Welcome to Flo's coffee shop and let me by you a cup of coffee, for the most part this is a great group of guys all trying to help each other. If you have any other friends in the hobby why not suggest they also join the forum.

Say Rex, it's unfortunate your having such a tough problem locating the Dura-bond or Hydrocal etc. I know that even in this area, although that was back quite some time ago Hydrocal wasn't that readly available either. Finally my buddy and I did find some at a distributor by the local rail line in Fresno, but that's no help to you. Wish I could be of more help but othrs seem to have offered some good suggestions to you.

Tom, Scouts are a great place for your son to be. I went all through the ranks, Eagle + almost my second palm and OA member and 100 mile Silver Knapsak hike. Some real good times with a lot of knowledge gained. In past years I've done a fair amount of Backpacking even into wilderness areas and well off the trail too.

Hope everyone has a great day as well as the rest of the week!

Well it is now official my FIL has cancer. The doctors told us that he has probably had it for several years and it is the type that only shows up when you have a problem. The prognosis is pretty good for he will start Chemo after he has a full body CAT scan the first of next provided he is out of the hospital. The full CAT scan thing is an out patient only as it is done at the other hospital in town on a big semi trailer. His family Doc who told him about the cancer yesterday said he had another patient who had the same type of cancer and his tumor was much larger than my FIL's and he lived two more years with out the treatments. Just talked to Glendia and she said he tried to eat today but he just couldn't. He has kind of given up again today and yesterday he was going to fight it. He has never been one to stand pain very well so time will only tell just like when my MIL passed away in August he just did no know how he was going to make it. He has so far but this is a real downer for him. He did not want to go the hospital because he said he would not get out of there just like my MIL did not. This is going to be a real test for Glendia and myownself but I am sure with the good Lords help we will survive.

Good afternoon. It's 48, cloudy and windy. It's said that the high will be in the mid 50's but I don't tink it'll make it.

I've been at the wound care center. They cleaned up the wound, got the built up scab tissue off the edges so it'll heal faster. Then they were gonna hook the wound vac up to it but they found a line in the instructions that says it can't be put on within 24 hours of a debridement (cleaning of the wound) because it would vacuum the blood out through the edges of the wound, which could be a bad thing. On another note, he stopped the antibiotic treatments. Yippee! I was sick and tired of them making me sick and tired all the time. He also had a new round of X-rays done and found that my right shin bone has a stress fracture right above the ankle. No wonder it's hurting. He wrote me up a prescription for hydrocodone to ease the pain. A Home Health nurse is supposed to come out tomorrow to hook up the wound vac and I also have to go to the hospital to have a doppler scan done on my right leg to see if there are any clots. As if that wasn't enough, Thursday I have to go to the eye and laser center in town to have my eyes dilated so they can see if my diabetes has caused any damage to the retinas, then in the afternoon I have to get a MRI done. See what an interesting life I have? Now, to get this on to trains, I received two Bachmann bobbers (2 axle caboose) in the mail this morning. I had seen a photo of them on another forum and commented that they looked almost identical to the cabooses on my very first HO layout. The owner asked me if I wanted them and I said YES and he sent them. It should really surprise my rivet counting neighbor the next time he comes over and sees one of them bobbing along behind my heavy freight. His reaction will probably be priceless!

Afternoon, everyone.

Think it's happy birthday to Rico, David, and LatentTrainFan today. I hope everyone has an enjoyable birthday.

I've been tied up with the Dianna's aunt's funeral and then Dianna's mom going into the hospital for rectal bleeding. It was rain all the way down to the funeral, thunderstorms during the funeral, and then more rain at graveside. We did the usual visiting at the relatives houses, with more food than an infantry company could eat. Down here, the police escort funeral processions, something I just couldn't imagine, given how busy we were with little things like drive-by shootings. It's nice to be living in a slower pace. The police blocked the intersections and stood there with their hats over their hearts. Made me feel good. There's a lot of respect associated with a Southern funeral.

Dianna's mom's bleeding has stopped and she had an MRI today. She's 81 and has COPD, so she's a bad candidate for a cystoscopy unless it's really an emergency. She has a long history of diverticulitis and I suspect this was a flare up with a little more bleeding than normal. Her counts are good and her temperature is normal. Dianna just called and she's being released today, so it looks my diagnosis was right. Rectal bleeding always looks like you're losing lots of blood when it's usually just a relatively small amount.

Larry, I'm sorry to hear about your FIL's diagnosis. What kind of cancer is it? Having gone through losing his wife so recently, and now this, I can understand why he's feeling depressed. This would be a good time to talk to his doctor about getting him on some antidepressants if he's not already on them.

Larry, both you and Phillip did a really great thing helping that woman who was a victim of domestic violence. I'm sure she and God will remember you both for you kindness. I wish more neighbors would help each other out instead of waiting for the government to do it.

Matt, I remember when I could bench press my weight. I could do it up until I was about 26 and a full-time cop, but things kind of went downhill from there. I now weight 170 and can still bench press 110, which isn't bad for a guy almost 64, but I sure am sore when I do it now. :) Enjoy the kayak and being young.

Rex, Autauga Home Supply, our local lumberyard that always has things no one else has, has got the Dura-Bond in 20, 30, and 45 minute varieties. It's about $15 for a 50 pound bag. As soon as I said I wanted Sheetrock Dura-Bond, he knew right what I was talking about. I don't know if there's a local supply store like that in T-Town but I'll bet that's your best chance to find the stuff.

Sandy, it is sometimes tough to get in this Christmas spirit. December has always been difficult for me since my mom and dad both died in December and my oldest son, who died when he was 19, has a birthday on December 18. He would have been 41. :( Combine that with the number of friends that have died recently and it's a little hard to be festive. Still, life goes on. I'm certain that dog was sent to you just to lift your spirits. I finished A Christmas Carol last night and I'm going to watch A Christmas Story tonight, which always gives me a lift. I watched Groundhog Day for about the 20th time a couple of days ago. It's not a Christmas movie, but it always gives me hope of salvation, no matter what a jerk I've been in life.

Jeffrey, glad you're off the antibiotics. Those really make you feel like crap. Sorry about the stress fracture but a couple of hydrocodone will make life seem better. ;) I think you'll be surprised at how effective that wound vacuum treatment is. All the studies I've read say speeds healing time by almost 50% and almost eliminates the use of antibiotics. I hope your eyes turn out to be OK.

Barry, sorry about Audrey and her fracture too. At least that foot anchor will make it harder to hobble around the mall and spend more money on presents. :D

Alco, I've seen that Athearn book before and have been meaning get a copy. Thanks for the reminder. Maybe that can go on my Christmas gift list.

Chris, you know you were the one that introduced us all to the concept of DMSF's and now you're corrupting a 14 year old. Shame on you! Now, where did I store that ammo from the last fight?

I know I missed a bunch more of you and I apologize. I hope everyone is doing as well as can be expected.

It has been raining here for four straight days. First cold, then warm, and now we're headed back to cold again. I was feeling like I was back in Cleveland for a while. The rain has finally been pushed to the south and I think we'll have a couple of at least dry, if not sunny days, with seasonably cool weather. Number 2 daughter has been going with the same guy for the last three years and asked me for permission to marry her. He's a great guy, about to graduate with a degree in finance, and will make a great son-in-law. Tonight is the third anniversary of when he asked her to go steady, so he's going to do the down on one knee thing in the driveway, where he first asked her to go steady. I'm going to hiding behind the RV with a couple of huge artillery shell fireworks to set off when he asks here. These things are gigantic and the whole neighborhood should know something's going on. I love to blow things up. :)
