Afternoon--

Paperwork went by fairly quickly so I betook me to the trainshow which was just down around the corner from the office and found some deals. Some more cylindrical hoppers--8 for $16---so I bought 16 for $30 and came across some white boxed brass locomotives---picked up a 2-6-0 and a 2-8-4 for $80.:D:p Also found a bunch of scratchbuilding materials as well so I'm all back up in my supplies again---:D:D:D

As for attendance---meh:eek::cool:

I got some yard work to do now ---so off I go to do dis---

Happy Sunday

We've been out in the desolate reaches of North Mexico for the Thanksgiving holiday. It figures that it would rain, high winds and sleet in the middle of the desert when we rolled in. Anybody has a drought, let me know, I'll come camping there. It'll rain for sure.
Saturday we went to the railroad museum in Campo. It's a decent museum, with some stuffed and mounted equipment, and a train that runs Saturdays and Sundays. This weekend it was a Santa train. We passed on the train ride, I really didn't want to see a bunch of elves scampering through the train, with Santa in hot pursuit... It was, however, a Santa (Fe) train, so what should we have expected?:D

Hi everyone! David, glad you are coming back.
As Jim said, Bama had a tough one yesterday and I was totally stressed out when it was over (there were a few times that the dogs even ran out of the house from my...uh...excitement:rolleyes::D). This is not unusual for this rivalry, as this has happened many times throughout the many years. There have been many times that one of these teams would be high ranked only to have the other knock him off. For this game, all records are put aside and it is a down and out brawl. Hats off to the Auburn team (yuk, it hurts to say that) for one heck of a game. It was obvious that Auburn Coach Chisik was trying to do what Utah did to us last year and come in fast and furious and let Bama try to catch up. (almost worked:o)
Maybe we were just saving ourselves for Florida;maybe too much Turkey; maybe we felt sorry for them; maybe we.......:D

Rex and Jim- I have never been able to predict a score in an IRON BOWL. Obviously, Y'all cannot either.:D

Auburn was able to make a repectable game of it for only 58 minutes. I hope Bama can focus on Florida and slow the game to their pace.
Terrific Tim can be stopped, but there are other players for Florida, also.

It should be another great SEC championship game!
Right now, we are all Bama fans.

Kinda QUIET in here lately innit?

Flo---where'd all the customers go to now?:eek:

I'll have a boot coffee for now thanks---

The weather here is calling for wet flurries--as opposed to dry ones--and the high of 3C while tonight and tomorrow pretty much will be the same except tomorrow's high will be the round goose egg

I've got enough material here to build up some stairways and railings for such---I hope:rolleyes:;)

Have a good one--

Good morning folks

It was 44 F on the way to the madhouse this morning. High will be 53 F.

I did not get a chance to post over the Holiday. By the time I got on the computer it was late and I had other things to do. So here goes.

We had a great Thanksgiving with a very nice dinner. We had some issues with the potatoes for the mashed potatoes taking longer to cook than expected which delayed things a little.

Friday morning my wife and I stuck our heads in couple of stores just to see what all the fuss was about. Since nothing on our list was available we did not buy anything. Afterwards we took the kids out to Strasburg and the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania. We then hit a few of the hobby shops. My son and his friend picked up a few odds and ends but I did not get anything. The few things I was interested in were at MSRP or higher. One or two items are currently listed in Walthers’ latest flier on sale and the shop was not going to match the price.

On Saturday while my wife was at work my daughter and I went Christmas shopping for her. We did pretty good. However, when we got home we discovered one of the items was broken and now has to be returned.

Sunday my son and I went to an Eagle Scout Court of Honor for one the boys in his troop. It was a very nice affair and reception. While we were there the wife and daughter went to an animal shelter to look at a couple of dogs. Our remaining Pomeranian is getting restless and somewhat hyper since the other dog died. He seems to be searching for something and can’t figure out what is wrong or missing. They brought him with them to meet the potential dogs. My son and joined them after the Court of Honor. There was one 4 year old female Pomeranian that our dog got along with and she seemed to like him. Now we have to have someone from the shelter come out for a home visit as the next step.

We also began the Christmas decorating. It will take us about a week to complete the decorating.

On the train front some progress was made. The layout was cleaned off some. There is still more to do. My son and I may have solved how we can move the layout so that an extension may be added. The layout currently sits atop two drafting tables. Under the foam are two pieces of plywood. We realized that instead of moving the tables we can slide the layout top onto the new table thus providing the room needed at the correct end of the table. It will still take about six people to move but will be easier and lighter than trying to move the layout and position the new table since it has to be moved from the wrong end of the layout.

Tonight my son has a Boy Scout Troop meeting. He is supposed to have his Scoutmaster Conference for Tenderfoot. My daughter has a meeting for the AAU volleyball team she made.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Good morning. It's 57 and cloudy. We are already at the high and the catch word today is rain.

I have an appointment with the foot doc this morning and the discussion will center on getting a new set of X-rays done. My ankle is already hurting this morning and in a couple of hours it will be hard to put weight on it for any length of time. There's something going on in there and I want to know what it is. The only thing going on layout wise is that I have a couple of nearly complete Athearn chassis (GP38-2 and SD40-2) almost ready to send out to another modeler. That will have to wait until I can walk more than a couple dozen feet though. The local post office is not handicap accessible and I can't see myself climbing the dozen plus steps from the street to the doors to say nothing of coming back down them. That's just a bit too much at this time. I may end up sending them via UPS. No steps to climb but still quite a walk.

Good Morning all!

Just another day semi employeed, I love winter.......But it's hard on the lawn service side of it. I got a Power wash job and a lawn mowing job lined up for Friday and Saturday. That should help some with the christmas gifts. I'm puttering around the house getting my chores done. I also worked some on my sons new Mini Bike http://www.bajamotorsportsonline.com/product_info.php?cPath=4&products_id=114 (Christmas Gift #1), I broke it in and changed out the oil, and went over all the nuts and bolts to make sure everything is tightened up good, I also got it cleaned up by removing some of the crap decals and replacing them with HD decals. Man, I would have killed a person to get something like this for christmas when i was a kid:) to be 12years old and have a cool minibike for the trails around the house!:D we just got to get him a Helmet and some riding gloves and he's set:D I think I'm more excited than he is about christmas morning than he is.....well may be not!:) He's thinking he's going to get one of those laymo electric scooters......boy will he be suprised! My wife and I get our gif givingt out of the way before christmas so we can focus our full attention on him. My wife got this new computer and I got some much needed tools and uniform for the business.

Jeff, I hope your foot gets better! not cool having pain for the Holidays! My wife has a double ear infection and upper resp. infection to boot too. Every year we go through this when the weather changes!

Well i got to get back to work on the howes Check in Later!:)

Found out what's going on with my right ankle. The fibula (long thin leg bone behind the tibia (shin bone)) has pulled away from the talus, a bone in the top of the foot that sit sits atop of the calcaneus aka the heel bone. A ligament which holds the fibula in place against the tibia has been stretched. This has caused the bones to move apart and is therefore wreaking havoc with the muscles. Being that my foot is already in such bad shape there's really nothing they can do for it except watch it. The ligament will heal in time. The doc told me that this kind of damage could be caused if the ankle were twisted sharply and folded over to the outside so I was standing on the side of my foot. The ankle became a problem about a week ago and the only thing that happened that folded my ankle in this fashion was when my niece's Great Dane (110 pound puppy) knocked me over. It started hurting shortly after that encounter. For anyone else the pain would have been immediate but with my nerve damage it didn't show up until the bones started hurting. By then the damage was done. There's not much the doc can do for that but he's concerned the swelling could have some issues in that when the skin stretches germs could get in and set off a cellulitis infection and there is some swelling between the ankle and knee to support that. He's put me on Vancomycin for a week to see if it will make a difference. Vancomycin is an antibiotic that must be administered by iv and being that I have an iv port that's not a problem. He was talking about admission to the hospital but I told him very flatly 'NO!'. After nearly going blind from my last stay there I'm not giving them another chance at it unless there's absolutely no other way. That was the whole idea with having this iv port installed in the first place. I should be receiving my first three days of the Vancomycin tomorrow.

Good very early morning, everyone.

Been busy the last couple of days with family and church things. Holly cow, I finally got a chance to sit down at the computer, asnwered a few questions, and it's already 0410. Being a night owl, it seems like, once I get started, I can just keep on going until, all of a sudden, I have no idea what I'm typing any longer. :)

Corey, the weekend retail sales figures were certainly not encouraging. With the number of people unemployed this year compared to last, and no end in sight, most people are cutting way back - I know I am. Things like suits tend to sell a lot better when you have a job that requires you to wear one. :(

Jeffrey, my torn menicus is giving me constant pain. I can only imagine what you're going through, especially with what's probably a stretched and torn tendon on top of the preexisting foot problems. Getting on the vanco is a good idea since you already have the port. Have you talked to your doc about getting a stronger pain reliever? You may have reached your pain ceiling on loratabs. The total dose of acetaminophen also gets to be a concern in terms of you liver. Trying some oxycontin for at least a week may give you much better pain relief, which will promote healing. I know getting that dilaudid IV when I was having blood clots in my bladder literally saved my life. I went from excruciating pain to almost no pain in about 10 seconds. I know some doctors worry about addiction with stronger narcotics but it sounds like you're going to need some kind of narcotic pain relievers for that majority of your life and your body learns to adapt. I have to to take 10 mg of valium daily and sometimes as much as 40 mg if I have a severe Meniere's attack, so I know I'm habituated to valium. My only other choice is to be on the floor barfing half my life and being constanly dizzy. I'll take the habituation any day. Sounds like you're in the same shape. :(

Barry, I hope I can find some deals like that at the train show in Birmingham next week. 16 cylindrical hoppers for $30??? Two brass engines for $80??? Yeah, like I'll ever be that lucky. :D

Terry, sorry about the crappy weather but at least you got to Campo. I sure miss those UP cabooses with the safety slogans. Looking at the rear of a train to see what kind of FRED it has just isn't the same. :(

Tom, I hope you find a nice Pomeranian as playmate for your dog. I think animals that grew up together get to be friends the same way we humans do and having one gone is as bad for a dog as it is for us.

Chris, I hope your wife is feeling better. It sounds like the boy is going to get quite the Christmas gift. I'm glad you're getting him a helmet. I'll keep hoping you pick up more off season jobs.

Mikey, I'm glad I didn't have a bet on the over or under for the Iron Bowl. ;) Florida is going to be a huge game. I have the feeling I'll be able to lay down in the street from 3:00 to about 6:00 and not get run over. Now I want to see what the BCS does with Boise State.

Had a little rain, clouds and wind today but it's clear and 39 now. Looks like tonight through Wednesday could bring us a pretty good round of rain, wind, and possible strong to severe thunderstorms. The NWS has already issued a flash flood warning. What will really happens depends on the exact path of the low now forming off the coast of Louisina.

Good morning folks

It was 33 F as I rolled out of the driveway this morning. High today will be 51 F.

Last night my son had his Scoutmaster Conference for Tenderfoot. Next step is his Board of Review. My daughter had a meeting for her AAU volleyball team. Thursday night see finds out which team she is on.

Tonight is music lessons followed by taking my son to get a new suit for the Holidays.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Jim I see the bottom line is kinda upsidedownie---are we having a dyslexic moment?:D---Yeah we have been pretty busy here--as for the deals I came across I had to do a fair bit o' digging in one guys booth. I got both locomotives lubed up and running---going by the David Sutton book way back when--;)

Good Morning---

We got just enough snow that it done left a layer off the car to scrape off---already seeing cars go by with a peek hole---like people driving tanks around.

I'm going to the trainroom to work up another machine shop for Eric's layout--and to see if'n I can't get a little closer to being more non fuzzy in my close up photography-----

Have a good one---

Good morning. It's 45 and cloudy. The high will be in the low 50's and the outlook says we'll be having rain today.

Well today is that day of the month we all love to hate. Bill paying day. I've already been out to pay the bills for the electricity, car insurance, loans, credit cards, cable and satellite. That should keep the wolves away from the door for another month. I'm just taking time now to let my ankle recover from all that activity. The Home Health nurse comes around at 1 pm and I may be making a trip to Alexandria later. That of course depends on how my ankle feels.

Good evening---

WOW---lotta people in here over the past few days----Xmas must be around the corner---busy busy busy----

Got some of our decoratin' somewhat accomplished---tomorrow got some runnin' 'roun' to do------

Take care all of you--:D:D

Jim, I know that life can sometimes seem upside down and everything totally backwards, but............:D

Well, neither the wife or me had anything special we wanted for Christmas so we decided to buy ourselves bicycles for Christmas and went over to WalMart and bought two 7 speed Schwinns. No guys, we are not into a big exercise kick, the bikes will be used when we go camping to roam the campsites. For years we have always been envious of others when they casually cruised around on the bikes, enjoying the scenery and stopping by to visit.

I have spent the last three days filling-in the hole left from a 4 foot shop fan in my depot; many of you have seen the fan in person or in my photos. I removed it last summer, but hadn't finished the inside wall with insulation and luan. Problem was three levels of track in the way. Obviously, this required some very careful carpentry and painter skills but it is done and certainly looks a lot better. I even painted the entire 40 foot long wall and an adjoining wall. (thank goodness for wood filler for a few bad measurements, LOL :D)

I never did make it to Alexandria today. All the activity this morning had my ankle burning like fire, so I stayed home instead. Haven't been able to get out much on the net either. It's been problematic at best. The download speed is slow and the upload speed, well, the seasons move faster. My upload speed is in the low 60's which is half the minimum I need to make a phone call, so I can't even cuss out a tech about this problem that's been going on for at least five years now.

Evening, everyone.

I told Flo that calves liver and boiled rutabaga blue plate special would never work out. :)

Barry, that last line was typed just before I passed out. ;) I remember driving with those little snow portholes in the windshield and none too fondly either.

Rex, did you get the Schwinn's with the fat tires? Those sure look a lot more comfortable than the skinny little tires my bike has. You won't win any races with the Schwinn's but your butt won't hurt for three days either. Sounds like you actually got a lot of work done in the depot. I'll be interested to see how it all looks. What do you think about an ops session in January?

Jeffery, on the 1-10 scale, how's your pain today? I hope it's better. Maybe you're a tougher guy than me me bit acute pain that just keeps going on is really debilitating. I had to laugh about your internet connection being too slow to use the phone to call and complain. Charter wanted to sell us a bundle that included phone service. I asked the salesperson if that was a plot so we couldn't call and complain when the cable went down...again. When we get bad storms here, we lose cable and cell phone service almost immediately. There's no way I'd be without a conventional land line. It's either that or hoping I can get through on a phone patch on my ham radio.

Boy, what a cold, miserable, rainy day we've had here. The high was a rip-roaring 49 and it's 46 now. we're supposed to start getting some return flow from the gulf and start warming into the 50's overnight but I sure don't see any signs of it yet. Apparently, the Montgomery radar site is run by Charter because it's been down all day. The only radars I can see are Birmingham and Mobile, which both leave us in a slice in the middle where there's very little detail. There is some convection forming in the Gulf now and moving north and we do have a chance for severe thunderstorms and the slight possibility of tornado's. It would be kind of nice to know what's happening. I guess I'll just have to keep a window open tonight and listen for the sounds of any freight trains headed toward the house. :D

Edit: Holy carp, I just noticed I went over 10,000 posts. Man, talk about not having a life.
