Good morning. It's 41 and mostly cloudy. The projected high is 50 and it will be partly cloudy.

After it's first day on the job the wound vac seems to be working well. It's pulled about two ounces of liquid out from the wound so far and it looks as though there's still more to come. My foot feels much better and the swelling in the lower leg has decreased some. This morning I have to go to the eye clinic in town for a routine diabetic eye examination. That will take the rest of the morning and part of the afternoon. After that I have to go over to the Deer Creek hospital for an MRI. That'll probably take the better part of a couple of hours. There's another day shot. By the time I got home yesterday I was hurting too bad to even think about doing some light sit-down work at the layout. Maybe this evening I'll have a chance to work on one of the bobber cabooses. The couplers are less than my idea of quality pieces and will be replaced with Kadee #5's or Kadee #148's, depending on what I have on hand, and yes, I fully intend to have one on the tail end of the heavy freight when the rivet counter shows up. He loves to point out the non-prototype practices I use and I give him plenty to point out. His reaction to the bobber should be classic to say the least. Last time he came over he almost turned purple when he saw my GP42X. The guys a glutton for punishment. He loves pointing out errors on the layouts of others but don't even THINK about pointing one out on his.

Jim, CIOR's not tying to scam anybody. He changed his modeling focus from a proto-lanced shortline to late-70's C&O (Chessie) in Indiana. Just finished rebuilding the benchwork and laying the track for his new layout, he's posted videos of it. He and I exchanged PM's about a kitbash I was working on back in the summer of 2007. I think he just underestimated the importance of posting photos of what he's selling.

Good Morning--:)

DULL DULL DULL----oh---and cold. That is it for our weather. :(

Watermain broke just down the street from us on our side. We now have a large ice lake that has a couple of barricades--supposed to be cleaned up later this morning. Took several hours to get the thing fixed due to the size of it---they replaced a 20' section---several cracks in the pipe:eek::eek:

I got a call from one of the nursing homes this morning--it appears that they are in shut down mode----several flu cases---no concert for them:(:(---maybe next week:confused::)

I'm going to the doc this morning for another bloodwork thing---more runnin' 'round----

Have a good one people!!:D

I got a message last night to call Vernon Home Health between 8 and 9 this morning. I've done that, twice. So far it's been 'They're not here yet', 'They're all in a meeting', or 'Nobody's available at this time'. Do they think I have nothing better to do than wait around for them to get off their duffs? I'll give them a bit more time but at 9:40 I'm out the door and headed to my eye appointment.

Finally got an answer back from Home Health. They were wanting to know at what time I started my antibiotic treatment this morning. Seems they didn't get the message that I'd been taken off them for the time being. They're checking with the doc today to see where the wires got crossed.

Jim- If you get to McWane next week, look at the display case of HO engines as you get off the 3rd floor elevator. It is a wide variety of the history of US locomotives. Everything from Dewitt Clinton to Amtrak.

In the main display room, there is a nice display of Lionel trains. It sure makes lots of pleasant memories come back while looking at the trains.

Look at the Hogwarts Castle in the Harry Potter display. You cannot get much more scratchbuilt that this one. We watched four of the Harry Potter movies to come up with a composite structure to represent the Hogwarts school.
I'm kinda proud of the witch figures. We found some figures of nuns in habits. I filed off the heads at an angle and glued on hats made from paper punched dots and pencil sharpened dowels. Just goes to show how quickly even a nun can become a witch.
Hope you enjoy your visit!

Yeah, I agree. I have corresponded with CIOR off and on for a couple of years and that would seem out of character.

I got the eye appointment overwith. It went a lot quicker than I thought i would. In the Alexandria office it always took at least a couple of hours. Now I have to wait until about 3 to go in for my MRI. Oh yeah, I camn't see very well because my eyes were dilated. It's gonna be an interesting trip to Deer Creek.

Jim- Ive grown up around the fire station, and have worked with them around the station and at funraisers and the county fair for years, so i guess you could just say its always been a part of my life. As for SWAT, ive just always loved the rush and teamwork aspect of it, which is prolly why i love football so much, obviously not the same thing, but when you rush of from the endzone, its probably one of the greatest feelings.

Its sunny and cold here in HF, tommorow is an A day and a Friday as well which means it'll fly by. Today i went to a few of my teachers, my grades are still not mid 90's but there alot higher than i expected.

Afternoon, everyone.

Rex and Ken, I agree that CIOR's sale looks legit after seeing his explanation about the first posting. I don't think he's doing a very good job of selling them but I'm sure he's not trying to rip people off. But, it's his stuff, not mine, so I hope it works out for him.

Jeffrey, glad to hear the wound vac is working. It's amazing the amount of crud your body can hold. That should be a good scene with the bobber caboose on the back of long freight. :) I never have understood people who think you need unsolicited advice. There's something in the Bible about not looking at the splinter in another's eye while missing the log in your eye.

Barry, nothing like an ice skating pond in the middle of the street to start the day off. :) When I lived in California, we had one night with a record low of 10 degrees. Every pipe in town broke and the whole place was covered in ice. The parking lot of one shopping center would have made a perfect hockey rink for a few days.

Mikey, after 10 years in Catholic schools, I'm sure I had a couple of nuns that really were witches. :D I'm looking forward to seeing the displays.

Matt, I made a grand total of four touchdowns in three years of football, so that shows you what a great player I was. It was a rush though, no doubt about it. However, getting shot at is a whole lot less fun than having the cheerleaders finally pay attention to you. ;)

It's cloudy, cool, and dreary down here today. Ther's another slug of rain headed our way and it doesn't look like we are going to warm up any time soon. I've got some low level bug which has allowed me to catch up on some MR reading, if you catch my drift. My neck and arms ache so I'm sure it's some kind of flu-like virus. No temperature though, just enough to make me feel crappy. Could be worse though, so I think I'll survive. Hope everyone else is doing OK.

Good Afternoon fellas,

It cool and till about Noon time is was pretty foggy and started to roll in again at about 3:30. Actually the foggy area is below where I at generally but it does get up in her too.
In fact, when we get some very low Clouds it progressively blocks the trees out going back up the hill and makes for a very interesting pictrue!

Well, I've got a lot more to do on my layout so I'd better get to it but the forum is also very inticing to check up on.

Talk with you fellows later.

Jim- I see you were a MVP :p , im an outside linebacker for the most part, so my record for touchdowns is.... yeah lol. I completely understand that gunshots coming at you are quite differne than passes though, i just really like that kind of rush. Out of curiosty did you ever become a SWAT officer?

Chris- It'd certainly be interesting to see somethin like that in a locomotive. Maybe its just camera effects but it seems pretty quite.

Well tommorows Friday and then i have 3 days until Christmas break, yes i have to go to school on the 23rd!!! Even my teachers told us it was ridiculous lol. Tommorow should be a very easy day and im actually looking forward to it. Im not sure about the temp. but its awful cold out there right now.

A Biker's Night Before Christmas.

'Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the pad,

There was nada happenin', now that's pretty bad.

The woodstove was hung up in that stocking routine,

In hopes that the Fat Boy would soon make the scene.

With our stomachs packed with tacos and beer,

My gal and I crashed on the couch for some cheer.

When out in the yard there arose such a racket,

I ran for the door and pulled on my jacket.

I saw a large bro' on a red '52 Chief

Wearin' leathers, a cap, and boots (cool biker, man).

He hauled up the bars on that bike full of sacks,

And that Chief hit the roof like it was running on tracks.

I couldn't help gawking, the old guy had class.

But I had to go in -- I was freezing my .. Don’t ask.

Down through the stovepipe he fell with a crash,

And out of the stove he came dragging his stash.

With a smile and some glee he passed out the loot,

A new jacket for her, and some parts for my scoot.

He patted her fanny and shook my right hand,

Spun on his heel and up the stovepipe he ran.

From up on the roof came a great deal of thunder,

As that massive V-twin ripped the silence asunder.

With beard in the wind, he roared off in the night,

Shouting, "Have a cool Yule, and to all a good night!”

Alco, I've seen that Athearn book before and have been meaning get a copy. Thanks for the reminder. Maybe that can go on my Christmas gift list.

It is a great book Jim!

I got a few more recently... thinking maybe we should have a Thread for books reviews etc....? Whacha think?

Jeffrey, glad to hear the eyeballs are still OK. I hate MRI's. All that hammering really sets off my Meniere's.

David, Coarsegold's usually above the fog but there's a pretty good warm air inversion over the foothills right now. I really like the foothils this time of year, especially whan the Valley was socked in for weeks.

Matt, back in the days when I played ball, (1961-64), we didn't have all those fancy positions. On offense, we had a center, two guards, two tackles, the QB, a back, and two offensive ends. I was an offensive end, which means I was a combined wide receiver and running back. Most of the time, I just caught the ball (when I could) and just ran like heck, since everyone chasing me was about seven feet tall and I was five foot eight. If I couldn't see the end zone, I made for the sidelines as fast as I could. :) You still have a chance though. Just recover a fumble and head toward the goal posts.

I was on the SWAT team for two years. It was just like being in football camp three times a week. Lots and lots of physical training and weapons practice. It was interesting for a while but then it got to be just plain hard work. Even on callouts, you spent most of your time behind a tree somewhere waiting to be told what to do, which was mostly nothing. There was only one time I got to use my weapon, and that was to fire a couple of CS grenades through a window. I decided to find another hobby after that. :D

Chris, I did a pretty good search for that Waller engine and, except for that news story, there's no evidence of it. I tend to be very skeptical of these types of things. Even if car companies wanted to kill a more efficient engine off, there were plenty of other companies, like aircraft, farming, and marine businesses that would have jumped at the chance for a more efficient engine. All these engines, when actually examined by qualified engineers, had fatal flaws or were outright frauds. There's some interesting information on some of these claims at http://www.phact.org/e/dennis27.htm.

Phillip, I can also find no evidence of a turbo diesel Capri with as much horsepower as a V8 and got 103 mpg. Do you have a link? Funny poem though. :D

Alco, book review section would make a lot of sense. There are so many out there and it's just about impossible to keep up with them, especially some of the classics.

Its' a cold, rainy night here in Dixieland. 45 degrees with 20 mph winds. Makes me thankful for a warm roof over my head. Time to drop a little extra change in the Salvation Army bucket tomorrow.

Hi Jim,

Your correct, that's pretty much the way it is where I'm at, pretty much above the fog and below the snow.

You sound pretty familiar with the area, did you ever live around here or down in Fresno maybe?
