Morning, everyone, and Merry Christmas. Up early opening presents because the girls, who are 17 and 20, revert to about age 8 on Christmas morning. :) I wish Flo woud get some grits - I need grits and stong coffee!

Nice poem, Phillip, and a good reminder that it's not just about the pile of empty boxes that used to be presnts on the floor. How's the wife?

Merry Christmas to you and yours, Ronzrr and William.

Steve, I guess it's Christmas evening over there. Hope you've had a good one. But then you have Boxing Day tomorrow. Much better than just going right back t work after Christmas.

Santa was very good to me because I got a Santa Fe locomotive - how appropriate. :D It's a Bachmann Spectrum 2-8-0 and it's a beauty. I haven't run it yet but the details and paint are oustanding. The best part is that it's already DCC equipped so I don't have to tear into it. Pictures to come.

Hope you all got what you wanted from Santa too.

Phillip,......How's the wife?

She's doing great! In a few weeks we can probably start puting some weight on that leg at the rate we're going. The healing is going so much faster this time around. She's even beginning to be able to lower the doses of her pain meds a little. She went for several hours last night with no pain meds at all! Only made it for those few hours, but it's a step in the right direction. Thats the first time she's been off of them in almost 6 weeks. Praise the Lord!

Oh, glad you liked the poem too!

Good morning all, and Merry Christmas!

Everybody finished opening their gifts ~ an hour ago, and they're all really excited (well DUH...!). My 9yr-old daughter - the only one who ever hangs out with me in the trainroom - got me just what I needed, a packet of assorted miniature needlenose pliers. She always sees me hunting around for my misplaced needlenose to anchor turnouts (long story, don't ask), apply decals, install decoders, etc. Smart young lass, my Stephanie!

Hey Texas Paul - congrats, Gram-paw! :D

Jim, I fondly remember the days when Vicky and I were first married, and we would go to the midnight Mass at St. Paul's parish in Ellicott City, MD (the same church that Babe Ruth got married in BTW). We'd arrive an hour ahead of time to sing with the choir, and also to be able to get a seat - it filled up quickly! As soon as we started having kids though, midnight Mass became impractical. We're hoping to restart the tradition once our youngest reaches high school age.

Rex - I'm glad to hear your nephew wasn't hurt too badly in that wreck! Just another one of the many reasons that law enforcement is a dangerous business.

Phillip - great Christmas card & poem, also glad to hear your wife is recovering.

Josh - sorry to hear about your issues with the Railroad Lines forum. Is it your 'blockchoice' web site that your not allowed to post links to? Then maybe you could setup a duplicate photobucket account to host your model pictures at...

As for the rest of you - Jeffrey, Steve, Ray, William, BillT, Corey, Paul-in-Buffalo, Ronzi, Max, and anybody else who signed in after I started composing this post - may this Greatest of Days find you happy, healthy and safe!

Merry Christmas everyone!!! Hope each and every one of you are having a great day! This has, so far, been the best Christmas for me in many, many years. I just got home from breakfast at my son's house and had the most wonderful Christmas gift of the year. Nope, not anything in a box. Nothing I can wear. Nothing worth a lot of $$$$$ I spent an hour laying on the floor, playing with my Granddaughter! Who was it that said that presents are only apologies for gifts not given?

I am home only for a few minutes to pack the truck with stuff to take to my Sister's house for Christmas dinner. My prayer for the season is that my sister will somehow come to understand what I wrote in the first paragraph...........

Had an interesting time as head usher last night. First off the book where we keep attendance numbers came up missing. After 20 minutes of several people looking for it, I found it stuck under the box with the buletins for the service. Then when I went down to practice the Bell Choir piece that I was subbing for a member in, my left hearing aid decided to quit on me. Had a new battery so I knew it wasn't that. After frantically trying to get the on/volume switch to work all the first run through (I was sight reading BTW), it finally came back on.... Then we start the recording of the service, only to find that one channel isn't recording! The person doing sound frantically runs over to me, I'm trying to get the rest of the ushers informed as to how we will do the offering for the service, to get me to "DO SOMETHING!" I start checking out all the possibilities that could cause the problem and find that someone has unplugged the right hand mic. Not only that, but the cord is missing. Now I am not in a happy mood! I run back to where the other end of the (temporary) cord should be be plugged in to find that it has been neatly curled up and stored on the floor under the old sound cabinet. Of course by that time the choir is lined up and ready for the processional and is directly in my way. After some pushing of the Bass section out of the way and yelling at one of them who thinks I wanted the other end of the cord unplugged, I finally get the cord, string it out and rewire the sound board. All this during the prelude and half of the congregation staringh at me wondering what the heck I was playing with........ I am happy to report that the rest of the service went smottly and my blood presure came back down to normal.

Hope you all have a wonderful rest of the day!

Merry Christmas!

Jim as for getting back to work,,, it's a sore subject here, i only get christmas day and boxing day off work, oh and new years day, the wife works christmas day, boxing day and new years day,,,bit of a bummer.

Josh, dunno, sounds like a pretty convoluted rule to me but, as I wrote, they own the site and can make the rules, even if they are dumb. Write the webmaster with your points and see what you get back. If they stick by the rule, just forget it and move on.
Yeah. Waiting on a reply from the moderator who brought it up. I'm betting I'll have to wait until tomorrow.

Josh - sorry to hear about your issues with the Railroad Lines forum. Is it your 'blockchoice' web site that your not allowed to post links to? Then maybe you could setup a duplicate photobucket account to host your model pictures at...

Is not the photo hosting really, I understand they don't want a watermark, that states blockchoice.com, its the fact that I cannot like my personal train site, which is a subdomain of blockchoice.com.

I've decided to post there, from time to time, like I used to with trains.com (until I got ired of navigation there). Its not worth my time to be a vital part of their community, if I cannot even link my own personal trains.

By the way, hows everyone Christmas? I had to make a store run because the wife failed to realize she was out of milk, 2 days ago, and she wants it for the potatoes. Never realized so many people shop on Christmas!

Good evening folks

I hope everyone has had or is having a great Christmas. We just finished dinner and I am trying to type this before the inevitable heavy eye syndrome over comes me.

We had a great day. Santa was good to the kids and dad has a lot of building/installing to do this week. I have a Wii to set-up, a basketball backboard to install, plus help with various Lego castles, and other Dad-do things.

I got a Tom-Tom for the van. I have wanted one since we had a rental car two years ago when we were in Orlando. It was a big help in finding things when we were on unfamiliar ground. Also since I am traveling a little more on the job it will help with finding routes to project and meeting sites.

I also got a Bachmann EZ-Command DCC set with the Chessie Geep loco. So now it looks like I am going to be fin ding out about DCC. Also this should end my borrowing of my son’s power pack for the layout.

So I have a lot of learning and installing to do this week.

I hope everybody has a good evening.

Hi,

Does anyone know a site or place where I can get a plan ( with all measurements to build a Single Stall Engine shed / house ? I checked a little out there on e-bay and Walthers and either I did not find any or they were too expensive ( like US $ 52.00 for an HO plastic shed :S

Can anyone help?

Happy Christmas evening to all, except for those of you who are already into Boxing Day. :)

Phillip, that's very good news about your wife healing and need less pain pills. Those are both good signs.

Ken, I've just got back into going to midnight Mass. It's nice now without little kids and here in Alabama, a big crowd for Mass is about 200 people so finding a seat isn't a problem. You must be training your daughter right if she gives you tools for Christmas. :)

Ray, how wonderful to have a granddaughter to dote on. I hope everyone in the family will soon feel that way. It sure sounds like a less than serene time at church but I guess it all worked out in the end. You can have a double expesso on me in the morning. :D

Steve, too bad about the wife working all the holidays. Does she happen to be a nurse? My late wife got stuck working a lot of holidays as a nurse although she did like the double time and half pay.

Hi, NZ Ken, nice to hear from you again. Cute little train set there. enjoy the summer weather on your picnic.

Josh, be glad she didn't need milk here. There is nothing, and I mean nothing, open here in the buckle of the Bible Belt. One thing I miss about California is grocery stores that stayed open on holidays.

Steve, I want that construction set. I remember getting Tonka Toy sets like that for Christmas and I'd run them around the floor for a week straight and drive my mom nuts. We got a two pound box of chocolates from a friend in California and it's still sitting there, staring at me. I'm afraid to open it or I'll gobble down half the box.

Tom, you'll find that Bachmann E-Z command DCC system will work just fine for a small layout. The ones they have that include a DCC locomotive are a really good deal too. The navigation system will really be a help to you. I have a Lowrance iWay 500 and I couldn't find my way out of a paper bag without it.

Maxi, you have to learn to think outside the box. Get a cheap two stall kit, cut it in half, adjust the other wall so it fits, and build a new roof. You can make it smaller by just cutting the walls in the right place gluing it back together. Since an engine house is usually pretty grimy, it's a great project for kitbashing. Weathering can cover a multitude of mistakes. :)

We had a cool and showery Christmas day with a high only 43. We probably missed a white Christmas by 5 degrees or so. It's cleared now and down to 36with a thick fog, just like London in "A Christmas Carol".

Oh heck, not even 7-Eleven, or Circle K, or even AM-PM? What about Chuches?

Hey guys, just wanna let everyone know, Claudia is still around, she posted to Model Railroad Tips...

Josh, we don't have 7-11's, Circle K, or AM-PM's. We have little gas stations that have convenience stores but none of the national chains...and all of them were closed anyway. Literally, the only two places open were Walgreen's and a big gas station by the interstate. I guess I could have got some likely to be sour milk at Walgreen's but that would have been my only hope. You have to plan ahead for the holidays if you live down here. :) And, yes, the churches were open and doing a land office business...but no milk :D,

Jim you guessed it, she had a bad night with violent patients, had to get the police in it was that bad, stuff being a nurse on admissions, We have a thing called "care in the community" basically it was dreamt up by government to save money, almost all patients with mental dissorders are given freedom unless they pose a very significant risk to the public so at christmas they get turned loose with a pocket full of money and are told to "be good",,, first stop is the nearest bar or liqour store were they get drunk, then if they can like last night get drugs and turn into monsters from hell, it's a terrible state of affairs if you ask me, they are being deprived of the care they must get in order to save a few £££, after all a closed ward is cheaper to run than a full one.

Tiffany-wholesaler your gonna get your ass kicked, may i show you the door

snacks at the store!
They go great with coffee.:)
Have a great day everyone.

Mornin' Bill! Whose the new girl? Looks like Flo about 25 years ago.....:p ;) :D

Mornin' Eric! Evidently we had a guest doing some back alley sales??? I gotta get hear earlier, I keep missing all the fun! Glad to see that he was shown the door quickly.

Morning everyone. I slept in late this morning. Didn't make my kitties (particularly the old 20 year old) very happy, I might say. I had a great Christmas Day and hope the rest of Christmas is just as good! My family is getting smart and not buying stuff for my layout. I think they have figured out that I am not going to run intermodal cars on my 1925 era layout............. I did get a nice sign from my Granddaughter (well that's what it said on the card - she is 6 months old) that says, "Grandpa's Train Room" on it. That will be hung today. I didn't get any photos of her myself yesterday. I figured that two cameras and a camcorder pluis two cell phone cameras were enough so I could just sit back and enjoy the day....... I am sure many of the best photos will be shared anyway.

Hope you all have a wonderful "Boxing Day" even if you don't celebrate it. My late wife was the private secretary for a doctor here in Geneva who was originally from Canada. She always had boxing day off from work.
