Ray, I miss the theatre!! I used to do sound and lighting back in High Skool and a bit after for the local Gilbert and Sullivan Society. I loved the build-up to a big show (west side story would have been the best). The pressure on the nite and then the huge relief after.

Little bit of a set back with the house, solicitor found there is no building permit!! Just a c... up with the paper work though. So we are to confirm tomorrow (pay deposit) and then watch it develop!!

Still very much summer weather here high 20's yesterday. Daylight saving has ended and it gets dark very early, oh winter is on it's way.

Ken.

:) Hi Coffee Gang! I'm back from camping and worn out. The weather was great, but the temps were in the 80's which was actually a disappointment. We were hoping for a last chance at cool/cold weather camping. The campground was packed full with people from all over the U.S. I hate to admit it, but most all of us were older types.

Everything was blooming and turning green...including my gray truck, camper, outside gear, and etc. The pollen is unbelievable, covering everything. The only help we can get is a good rain that isn't forecast for awhile. Last I heard, we are -7 inches for the year.

Now back to TRAINS!;) :D

Mornin' all!

Finally got my DCC 'pilot' system figured out this weekend. Still learning all the keystrokes for programming/selecting/running - I'm gonna leave it connected to the test track for a week until I get thoroughly familiar with it, then I'll hook it up to the layout.

Ray - good to hear the school events were successful, sounds like you're having lotsa fun with your other "hobby"!

Rex - I thought I read somewhere, they make small A/C units for tents...?:D Hope the pollen didn't affect your allegies, I'm sensitive to that stuff myself!

Morning everyone, well I"m going after work today to get some supplies and hopefully I will get a chance to start cutting some sub-roadbed for my track that is if I get all my other chores done. Hope everyone has a great day.

Howdy Folks,

Another sunny day here. Boy was I tired yesterday. I cleaned and rearranged the basement to pull the furniture out of the new layout area. There's a lot too do before benchwork yet. The backdrops come first, then I have to build the shelves/ entertainment center for the base of the layout. Everything must be furniture grade.

The cool thing I got done yesterday was taping off the footprint on the floor. I took each of my family members for a tour of the layout. My autistic son thought it was weird when I told him to duck under the bridge. They take things very literally. He thought the tape was pretty close to the floor. But for the first time since I started planning this, he got what I was planning. He looked at the print out of the plan and made the association.

About a year ago, I got the first Dream, Plan, Build video and I watched it with my son. We saw a mountainous basement railroad. My son said, "I want you to build one of those."

When he was standing in the center of the tape, he said, "You're building a layout like the video."

For the first time, he got it when I explained that there would be a waterfall over here, and some trees there, and--

"Yeah, dad, that's where the turntable goes."

Mornin' Jeffrey!

Mornin' Bill!

Mornin' ......... Whoa! Looks like quite a crowd in here today Flo. Good to see everyone.

Had to take my old kitty cat Sheila to the Vets this morning for a recheck on her thyroid condition. Poor old girl has lost another half pound. I am afraid she may not be improving and I'm not sure what the next step is going to be. Got to get over to school and pick up the rest of my sound equipment this afternoon and finish a CD of an All-County Festival that should have been out a week ago. Then I am going to spend the rest of the week on trains!

Hi everyone!
Glad your making progress w/DCC, Ken. Once you fit the pieces together, you will realize that it is not that difficult...just something that is new and has to be learned.

Yeah, they do make little a/c units for regular tents, but we have a pop-up trailer that has one (13.5k btu) on the roof. We had it running in the daytime to keep the pollen out, but we were outside most of the time. Yes, the pollen played "H" with my allergies and I am still dizzy headed from the darned Zyrtec I took. I don't respond well to that stuff.

Chip: Seems you have a train buddy sharing your excitement. Don't you love it when that light bulb turns on.;)

Nick: Don't forget what I suggested and buy a rotary cutter to cut out your sub-roadbed. It will become your favorite tool and make your work easy. Beats the heck out of a jigsaw.

Rex Sounds like you had fun, did you do any fishing while ya'll were away

My friend just e-mailed me from deapest Thailand to say he caught a 110LB Carp, yes one hundred and ten pounds

When I was 10, I used to live near a slaughter house that would dump entrails and stuff into an irrigation ditch. I used to wrap bacon on a hook (it would never come off) and throw that into the run-off. We would get some pretty good-sized carp...most fun fish I ever caught.

But nothing close to 100 lbs. Holy-Majoly!

Mornin yall!
Trust everyone had a great weekend. Took my boat out on the lake Sat. to "test" it, and it seemed everybody and his brother was on the water as well. The lake is the same one the Bassmaster's Classic world championship, was held on a couple of weeks ago, and it seemed everyone wanted to fish where the pros did. Every place that I normally fish when I'm there, had either 4-5 boats in it when we got there, or 4-5 boats came up while we were there. Wound up going to a place where no one has the guts to normally go, a huge flat with very shallow water and a lot of stumps. Not to many bassers are willing to take their $40,000 boats into a place that may damage their precious fiberglass babies.

Sunday my wife and son and I spent a good part of the day doing yardwork. :eek: Wow, I actually have a driveway! LOL! I sure am paying the price for it today, super stiff and very sore. Feels almost like the day after one of my IGG treatments.

Steve;

110lbs!:eek: Thats a big fish, no matter where its caught!

Ray;

Sorry to hear about your Shelia. :( Our old lady, Beebop, who will be 17 this year, appears to have been a victim of the pet food contamination according to her vet. She has had a kidney infection for the past month, and has had a hard time getting over it. Three antibiotics a day for past month, as well as fluids twice a week. The vet lets us do the fluids, and I'm the one that gets to give her all of her drugs. Right now she doesn't like me very much. She basically is still nothing but skin and bones, but is beginning to gain some weight back.

Chip;

Its great when the kids make a connection. I know this is a high point!

Well gotta go now, it time for another hot soak for myself, and then a dose of fluids for Beebop.

Later

Carey Every man and his dog were fishing this weekend here, we saw loads of em while on the train, LOL forgive me but every time i think about fishing all i can see is Bill Dance stepping on a snake and falling in the dirt.

Hi All, Chip glad that your son made the connection, ver proud father indeed. Fishing with boats sounds great We have to wait untill all the ice moves down from Lake Erie to fish from a boat . It usually takes into mid May. But we got some warm temps. today all the way up into the sixties. This one is for all the Bachman Haters, I sent out two Locos way back in January to repair that I found realtively cheap to Bachman. I fianally got them back today a bit long. But much to my amazement they replaced them with brand spanking new ones. They didn't have to but they did . Cost was ten dollars apiece for repairs . Have a real niceday all !

Well, we had to fish from the bank as I didn't want to make an extra trip for the boat (got to get a hitch for the car). However, we did catch enough for one meal. For some reason the fishing was off and others were not catching many. It should have been a peak time for Crappie (pronounced Crop-pee) a delicious white meat fish. I believe that the lack of rainfall has set them back.

When I was working in Thailand back in the late 60's, I went up to Nakhon Phanom at the Laotian border and on the Mekong river. I saw these fisherman with huge bamboo poles on their boats. I mean they were longer than the boats. When I asked about it, I was told that they catch catfish that weigh anywhere from 150lbs up with them and it takes both men all they have to get them in.:eek:

Well, I got some good news late this afternoon. Even though Sheila has lost more weight, her thyroid hormone levels are greatly improved but still not normal. They are adjusting her medication to bring it into control and her prognosis is good. Tough getting old whether you are a people or a pet. Sheila is 20 we think.

Carey, sure hope that Beebop recovers. The pet food poisoning has been an awful thing. The Vet had me check today to see if the food I have been feeding Sheila was on the recall list. Luckily it wasn't!

I actually spent about 3 hours today working on the layout. Ballasting track in one of the yards. Probably won't be able to stand up straight tomorrow....
