I had a very humbling experience last night.
Good Morning!
Just before I got off work yesterday, I got a call from a couple of ladies from our church. They wanted to come over and visit, see how we're doing, and so on. I told them when I'd be home and I'd see them then, no biggie. Well, about 15 minutes after I get home, the doorbell rings. I find them standing on the porch with bags and bags of groceries! As soon as I open the door they ask where the kitchen is, so I point the way. Five minutes later they're standing in my kitchen with me, the countertops covered with groceries, and they're telling me that if I'll name the time, they'll be over every day for the next two weeks to cook us dinner! They don't want us doing any of it! Now we only started going to this church about 9 months ago, so we don't know a lot of people real well, so right then, you could've knocked me over with a feather. My mother happened to be there helping out my wife and was blown away as well. I just couldn't help but think of
Romans 12:10 as I was standing there. It was very humbling to have these beautiful people give, not only of themselves, but also out of their own supplies and of their own time & money.
So we had chili last night for dinner. It was already made when they brought it over, and they wanted to serve us, but they have families of their own, so I told them I could more then handle that and I sent them home to their families. They'll be back tonight around 6pm. I don't know whats for dinner, but you know what? I really don't care. I'm really looking forward to just getting to know these folks better. These fine ladies are just the type of people the Bible talks about, so I can't wait to get to know them!
Oh, and check this! My wife worked for many years and, like everyone else, paid into Social Security. Five years ago she could not work any more due to her physical disabilities, and she's been trying to get her disability money that she paid in to SS for the last 3 years. She's been flat denied every step of the way, even though she's clearly disabled and has even gone so far as to have DNA testing to prove her condition and it's severity (You can't "fake" a DNA test ya know!). So we ended up taking SS to court to get her benefits, which include a decent monthly check, but more importantly, allows her to get medicare for her doctors bills. Well, the court date was the middle of this last January. We just got word yesterday......SHE WON! She took Uncle Sam to court and won! Not only that, but it looks like they're going to start her monthly checks within the next couple of months. To top that off, the judge stipulated that since she's been disabled for 5 years, even though she's only claiming three years, he's going to split the difference and he's ordered SS to pay her all of the benefits she would've had (retro) for the last 4 years! He said that if he was allowed to give her all 5 years he would've, but I guess he couldn't. Still!!!!! How awesome is that!?!
I really just want to say one thing to all of you this morning. Take the time today to love those around you, but most of all, take the time to show some of that love to God.
Oh, and prayers for Tom! Hope that foot gets better!
